I wish I could remember where I saw that rule, I’m fairly sure it was a house rule somewhere. But yeah 20 free hits is an awful lot. Maybe 1 hit generates 5 hits on the IC that would give minors 1 and majors 4, still quite a lot when you are hitting London or Moscow. This might favor the allies too much.

If you want to add in an active Free french, then I really think you need to add in Vichy rules, especially for North Africa. Also the French navy needs to be increased a little, considering the historical French Navy, France is missing a Battleship and a transport and some of it (probably a Cruiser) should start out off the coast of FIC.

Is there some build besides solid infantry that will stop sealion?

@Young:
I wouldn’t call the inhalation of entire towns a “wasteful tactic”
I think you mean immolation of entire towns.
Actually SBR’s most useful result was the devastation and total chaos imposed on the German rail network.

I think I saw a rule once where a defender could take hits on an IC that was in a territory under attack. That would be a nice rule change. It would put more teeth in the defense of major areas and also result in more SBR as attackers would have a reason to try and hit an IC before you attacked it.
Also I agree that china should be able to build artillery and fighters at a captured IC.

the math of SBR is fairly simple.
2 runs = 11 points of damage, which is a basicly a break even, but if your bombing small factories then you might be wasting some ( rolls of 4,5, and 6 all result max damage to a small factory). In which case you would need to do probably 3 bombing runs to equal the value of your bomber.
The big problem with SBR in my eyes at least is sometimes you lose that bomber without doing any damage, so to make it work I want 3 or 4 bombers working over 3 or 4 turns. That way the math says that as long as there are no interceptors i should do more damage then the 2 bombers i should lose.
Other problems are: Sometimes the bombers get diverted to other things so it takes longer for the math to work. Often I find myself wishing I had 4 more infantry and 1 less bomber.
So thats the long answer, the shoter version is: No I dont like SBR

I really wouldn’t mind more realistic french rules.
The N African provnices should go Vichey (let Germany have them, but cannot move the french infantry out of them).
FIC should be taken over by Japan without violating their NO.
All the rest should go Free French (british) - or maybe allow france to accumulate income and buy french infantry. -

kcdmzim,
I think she is thinking that Japan could attack one of them and not the other. Then “the other” would have to attack Japan, so Japan would be at war with both of them but since Japan didnt declare war on both - then the US could not declare war on them. -

Actually but “historically” the west coast only rates a minor IC. I think just downgrade the WC-IC to minor(in global only). All the shipyards that I can think of were on the East coast.
Mare Island Naval Shipyards and Hunter’s Point Naval Shipyard in San Fran built ships during WW2 - perhaps not to the same extent as the east, but they were considered major WW2 shipyards. Also, you’re implying that shipyards are the definition of “major industry” while Seattle had Boeing cranking the B-17 (so concerned of bombing that their largest building was disguised as a city with fake streets/houses/cars/trees camouflaging the plant) and Burbank had Lockheed (also camouflaged but not so famously as the fake city). Northrop, Douglas, and Glenn L Martin were based in Cali. Suffice to say, I’d argue that the west coast did its share of output, but perhaps mainly in the air.
Sorry tunnel vision, was only thinking about shipyards and all the ones i could find building carriers and battleships were east coast.

At 13 I think your back to the same problem, I dont think Japan can get 6 against a KJF (and if Japan can get 6 then you would have won the regular game anyway), so your back to the question: Can Germany get 8?

If your saying 12 VC is easy for the axis to get then I don’t think its any kind of fix, it just guarantees an Axis victory. Because splitting Americas focus will not slow the axis down at all in regards to accumulating their first victory cities.
The whole point of crushing Japan is that Euro can hold the Germans to 7 VC while Japan dies.
Japan can get 4 VC the instant they declare war, if they can get a 5th against a KJF while Germany gets 7 then your suggestion of combining VC is even more broken then the KJF strat may be. -

Combining the VC on the maps makes the KJF strat even better.

For instance all the shipyards that built US Essex class carriers (all east coast):
Newport News Shipbuilding
Fore River Shipyard
Brooklyn Navy Yard
Philadelphia Naval Shipyard

RE: U.S. in the Pacific Pre warposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
From the Alpha2 rules
The United States Navy, while being neutral, has the following movement restrictions. It can only move to sea zones that are adjacent to US territories in the Atlantic (more specifically Sea zones 101, 89 and 64). US warships (not transports) may also conduct long range patrols into sea zone 102. In the Pacific it can only end naval movements in sea zones that are not adjacent to Japanese-controlled territories and islands.
So in the pacific it only excludes sea zones next to Japanese territories/islands

RE: Cruisersposted in House Rules
I would suppoert cruisers being changed to 11 cost, but you also have to change the shipyard tech to reduce their cost by 1 instead of 2 as a 9pt cruiser would actually be a great buy even compared to a 7pt destroyer.

Most common T1 Axis buysposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
What are the most common Ger and Jap buys for turn 1? I know going any past the first 2 or 3 powers is kind of pointless because your probably reacting to what Ger and Japan does, but i think the question could also apply to the US builds.

RE: New Carriers - For Better or For Worse?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Garg people were saying carriers were tough to kill, and i think i just said that carriers were not all that tough. Responding that a carrier is not a single ship really has nothing to do with the argument at hand. Unless of course your going to argue that since the cruisers and destroyers survived the battle that Japan did not lose 2 carriers pieces at the battle of midway?
