    • RE: World at war (Expansion)

Just read the rules posted for WAW. It is the expansion and standard rolled into one. Good change. However, there are some updates to the rules made a few rules back posted on the forum, however, those updates which made for better play did not make it into the rules posted on line.

Incidentally Brain Damaged, I could not access that page with the rules through the website itself. Only through your link. It really seems that over the past few years, WAW has gone down hill as evident by there forum being rarely visited or used, and the constant promise over the past 5 years that there WAW 2.0 with all the bells as whistles will come out in just a few months.

      I am dissapointed.

      Thanks,

I have mulling around the website for sometime but failed to scroll down and acutally see the rules. Since the WAW Expansion at the time I bought it actually had 2 rule books, one for the standard and one for the expansion, this looks like it just combines it. I will start looking through the rules now.

I really encourage anyone to look at the rules through the link. The expansion in my opinion, is the best combination out thier in terms of the map, rules, historic play, diplomacy, tactics, and individual national unique units that are realistic but not way to complicated. Although I have just recievied a download from IL’s website. A map from gamedreamers wich looks awesome, but complicated. He has games that use the exact same map as WAW, although I do not know how the rules differ.

Does anyone have a suggestion on where to go to print out a map that is on a computer file that is the quality of a basic AA map?

      Hey Crusader,

Just noticed some of your posts on Xeno. You know, I have been exclusively playing World at War Expansion for about 5 years. In fact, I purchase World At War Online, payed extra for the promise of WAW 2.0 which was supposed to come out in a few months (for the last 5 years).

Have you heard anything credible, other than Mikes last post in October that it is again coming out soon?

They have also had updated rules for the expansion. I have asked for a download of the new rules to have them all in one book but no response. Mike is probbably busy trying to meet teh “few months” deadline.

Also, I contacted Mike and asked for a copy of the old WAW online file. He said he would get back to me. Maybe he will get back to me in a “few months”. Do you have one?

The posts for Xeno are looking mighty thin. I actually don’t even see WAW Expansion advertised. I wonder if the new WAW 2005 contains the rules for both the regular WAW and the Expansion. Mabe the Expansion became the basic game. I knew a lot of people who thought WAW, without the Expansion really stunk. It would be great to have a combined rule book. But between you and me, when AA Europe comes out, if you can indeed combine them, that may just permanently replace Xeno. However if they ever come out with WAW online 2.0, and it is as good as it is promised, it could win out.

6 sea zones it definitely should be. In the new axis versions, I noticed that the sea zones have widen compared to the original making much harder for the allies. I used to move all my forces to Canada, and every turn could land troops. I can’t do that anymore. So from that perspective it is more real and balances the game a little more. One problem. The US is now as far away from France as it is from Japan. How crazy is that.

    • RE: World at war (Expansion)

I have played AA since the 2nd version came out, when they changed the rule that multi forces could attack and forced Russia to only make defensive moves since they went first. I have played every expansion set that no longer exist. World and War and World at War expansion are a bit different. I have played both hundreds of times with challengers of all manner of skill. I can tell you without any reservation, if Japan attacked the US that way, Germany would be absolutely dead and soon. Unless, the US in deed decided to put everything they had into taking Japans islands. Taking back Western US would be utterly easy with only spending a fraction of thier resources. Putting the US in full force that early in the game before wiping out China is a death sentence for Germany. Again, unless the US had no idea on how to capitalize on that mistake.

In the World at War expansion, they came up with the National Gaurd that gave the US 4 infantry when any home island or homeland was invaded. World at War’s rules did stink, but the expansion was awesome. I no longer see it advertised as World at War expansion. I think their new world is the expansion that was update to fit AARevised.

    • RE: W@w 2005

After world at War, they sold an expansion to it that was tremendously better. Better than any of the AA out of the time. Though I haven’t play AAH or AA1942, I have played AArevised, by the descriptions, still doesn’t seem to come close to the expansion. I have recently visited xeno website. I only see AA2005 advertised. Thay may be the expansion all rolled into one as the normal WAW really stunk. Awesome map, pretty good rules, China, France seperate countries with own seprerate rules and money. Starts in 1939, awesome techs for each country, differnt unit cost for each country for historical accuracy, nuetral country influence, ect….

They had updated some rules that are posted on the website. By just those you can get an idea of how it plays.

Ok, you just confused me. The last FMG post seemed to clarify it was around $60 or $60 plus for the whole set. So yes, about $10 or more per country.

What are the chances of getting the rules for your advanced Wold War. I have modified WaW Expansion only slightly. I think they are fine but could be a lot better. I really like a lot of the rules you have in the Deluxe game. I would really like to see the difference.

    • RE: deluxe world war 2

So it seems I need to use miniatures. Look at the site, they are between 2 and 3 dollars (or pounds). That is going to make it cost prohibitive. When the sculpts come out for FMG, I may be able to represent many of those pieces, or I may just wait to buy AA40 then AAEurope.

I will likely just print the map and replace the World at War Expansion map but use the same rules, unless you have anyother suggestions. I really love that map.

I may also attempt to incorporate some of your rules and adopt whatever units I can. I really love the idea of playing with anti tanks, katusha rockets ect… I play the newest Axis and Allies PC game with my son and some of those units are in the PC game.

    • RE: Deluxe world war 2

I got a say, though I have never played anything other than AArevised, and earlier addtions, (including expansions), people always did buy all tanks. But when tanks defended on a 2, and cost 3, buying all infantry swamped the tanks. I never bought all men with the guys I used to play regualary with, but just enough not to give it away. I was amazed they never realized the advantage of buying all men versus tanks. I always bought just enough men to not make it obvious. I have been playing for over 25 years. When they made tanks defend at a 3 on revised it became a close battle, but with the addition of artillery, again unless  you had to travel far and fast, infantry and artillery is far superior in strength. It always has been, so I curious what game was it advantageous to do all tanks.

In World at WAr (Expansion), since you can improve factories to produce 2 tanks per turn at a $1 reduce price, those became the only tanks I would ever buy.

Looking at some of the maps like AA40, being so big in terms of spaces it might make sense. But tanks costing now $6, the need for speed really must overcome the advantage of fire power. If I have $42, I would much rather have 6 men and 6 artillery versus 7 tanks. Its a no brainer.

      –------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have never done forums until a few weeks ago, now I find myself spending hours a week on this forum. Hmmm. hope it’s not addicting. Anyways, I hope I am not breaking any rules by talking about other games based on AA.

IL, I was wondering what your thoughts are on tanks being to weak in your game. I did some math calculations based on two scenarios, (you can use the odds in favor or missing or hitting) and no matter how you look at it, for $21 I can buy 7 men or 3 tanks. 7 men easily destroy 3 tanks. And with artillery, you can buy 5 men and 5 artillery or 4 heavy tanks and the outcome is even more disastorous. Even with the curret AA games, combining infantry and artillery produces a superior fighting force, but not so horrific making the advantage for tanks movement of 2 still worth it, but only if you need that movement.

I heard in AA40 the tanks are 6 IPC. That seems like a mistake.

Just wondering your thoughts on the issue.

    • World at war (Expansion)

Has anyone ever tried this game. I have been reading a lot of posts regarding AA42, AA50, and the AA40Pacific/Europe.

World at War was pretty sad, but the expansion seems to have dealt with many of the questions or complaints about past AA rules. China is its own country, so is france. China prevents a back door immediate invasion to Russia, there is a russian treaty that can be broken with a penalty, their is a pretty good vichy rule when france falls. The map is as good as AA50 in terms of more territorries making for realistic play except Australia is 3 territories, (more realistic).

Of course I had to do some variants to make it more realistic just like any game, China goes first, ect…. Has anyone played this game.

At this point I am sticking with World At War, however I plan on buying AA40Pacific as there is still not enough naval play in World at War (Expansion).

IL has games and maps that resemble World at War with Deluxe World War 2 looking the like the best map I have ever seen. I am not sure the exact role IL has in the running of this website, but from what I have seen on his website, I am surprised I have not seen  or heard  more on his games.

    • RE: deluxe world war 2

Sent a  couple of emails, post here just in case.

OK, here it goes. Sorry it took so long. Curious? Was this meant to be an expansion for A&A? Doing some research, and it seems some of these units could be obtained from some of the more specialized A&A games, like A&APacific/Europe/D-Day ect… Is that where you are going to get the pieces.

Anyways, since I have 2 versions of A&A, one very old and the revised, and World at War, some of the units can be represented by different colors as each version or game vary a bit. So I broke the list of units into 2.

The could have list are units that I could represent by the different versions/colors of the basic pieces I have. But I would like the real thing if you can get it.

The must have means I either do not have enough different versions of the piece or have nothing to represent the unit. Therefore I am assuming these pieces must exist as a seperate piece.

    • RE: Attention All Axis and Allies Fans!

Not sure how the reviews are working, but didn’t Larry come out with AA40Pacific and is now coming out with AAEurope that is suppose to connect with AA40 which is suppose to be the ultimate AA of all time. I was considering buying AA42, but I already have the revised AA and World at War (The Expasion). AA42 at the looks of the map anyways seems not to much different than AArevised. But the map I have seen of AA40Pacific, Wow. If that connects with the upcoming AAEurope I definitely will wait for that.

How different are the rules for AA42 and AA revised?

I have been on the hunt for a long time for the most realistic play with the most awesome map. Advanced World War 2 seems to be the best right now, however with only the pieces of the combined AArevised and World At War, I may just try playing World At War (Expansion) on it.

I have searched FMG’s website and can’t find anything there in terms of the “nice pieces” they make. I have axis and allies the revised and world at war. I just bought advanced world war 2 and would like to buy some of the specialilzed pieces incorporated into the expanded versions of axis and allies. Does FMG sell them, and exactly what part of their website. I have only been able to find their combat dice.

I live in Santa Clarita. Me and my son who is 10 and quite good play a lot, although we have been playing the expanded version of world at war. I have played A&A for nearly 30 years, played versions 2-4, and many expansion versions that no longer exist over the years. World at War still does though, but would be interested in playing some of the newer versions of AA

I have downloaded the rule book from Xeno games before. In fact I printed it out. I would be willing to fax it to you if they do not have the download still.

Incidentally, I have played their online (so to speak) email version. I bought it in 2004 with the promise of a newer more practical version. Yes it has been 6 years. They are still working on it. I never asked for my money back. There last update was october of last year. If they ever get it out, it probabbly will be great.

With all do respect (considering I really want to play this map), I still don’t know where to get them. I really appreciate your help in geting them. I tend to be really curious and would like the answers to my questions in terms of, the pieces miniatures, is this suppose to be an expansion, ect…

I know the game is out of print, that is why I just got the download, so my instinct tells me you are going out of your way to get this to me so I am not going to risk annoying.

Sorry. My experience with AA has only been with the board games throughout the last 25 years. No game forums, ladders, online stuff, ect…

I will try and get you the list tomorrow.
