    • RE: We will fight on the beaches…

This is a very interesting approach to playing the UK to prevent Sea Lion! Saving your IPC’s round 1 especially is something that could really throw off Germany/Italy, I really like that idea. That’s something you really only ever see from Germany, maybe Italy so it would be neat to see that thrown back at the Axis.

However, I’d counter that preventing Sea Lion shouldn’t be UK’s only objective for turns 1-3 or 4. Giving up on the Med/Egypt and then especially the Middle East is great way to hand the Axis a victory. In my games lately, the UK player has basically been daring Germany to go Sea Lion to focus on the Med.

Sea Lion really pulls Germany out of position and costs their almost their entire IPCs for turns 1-3. Russia should outnumber Germany on the Eastern Front come turn 4 and can make Germany pay. While the Sea Lion threat really focuses USA to focus Europe, liberating London is easy once the German navy is wiped. I’d suggest working on what you can do as USA/Russia to really hurt Germany for Sea Lion.

    • RE: Going All out Hitler…

I’ve attempted the G1 DOW, but with less force. I knew I would get counter-attacked and lose BS/EP back, but then I’d be able counter-attack again and retake them for (hopefully) good. My thought was it would be more beneficial to kill the Russians sooner than let them retreat and gain strength in numbers. However, with a Sea Lion purchase I ended up short on ground troops early and had to lose some tanks to take Leningrad - didn’t like that.

I like seeing these ultra aggressive strategies - but from my experience I would definitely have preferred the extra ground troops on the Eastern front early on. As others have mentioned, the NO money trade-off sucks as well. Giving the USSR a free 5 IPCs every turn until I was able to get Archangel (no subs left after G1 attacks) while losing yours by waiting til G2/3 on normal Sea Lion feint.

    • RE: ANZAC Strategy

Assuming you have the starting transport in NSW SZ, I always use it to take Dutch New Guinea - the 5 IPC NO is too valuable. Japan has to go out of their way to take it back from you and its worth 0 to them so they may let you keep it. Whereas if you take Java or Celebes, Japan will go for it in force soon. I usually just sacrifice the transport and try to save the warships in NSW or NZ.

If USA is spending heavily in Europe - even 50% in Europe - ANZAC needs to be focused on defense. 3 land units in NSW every turn until the USA has sufficient fleet to protect you. If USA is going heavy(ish) in Europe early, you’re basically punting on the Pac side of the board and just trying to keep them from getting that last VC until USA is back.

The strategies are more varied if USA is going heavy Pac - basically you’ll want to support/complement them. But I’ll leave specifics for smarter people.
