I agree. It has always bugged me that they give you all these ships and planes for Russia and they never get used.

If the USSR can afford ships then something has probably gone catastrophically wrong for the Axis. :-D

RE: Victory Conditions w/ Russian Revolutionposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Correct, putting Russia into revolution doesn’t count toward the victory conditions. But with Paris in CP hands it’s likely only a matter of time.

Technically i think you’re right but my group had always rolled separately as well. It’s just less confusing that way and eliminates arguments.

That’s always been my problem. It isn’t too hard to get your troops outside the capitol, bit you have to make sure you’ve brought enough to get the job done. If you only contest the territory the defender can reinforce during the battle and you can’t. So if you don’t take the capitol quickly you’re screwed. Sounds like an entertaining game.

Interesting that you say the CP should usually win. I think most people here would say that the board is pretty heavily tilted toward the Allies. I’m not disagreeing with you, since you have a lot more experience here than I do. I’m just curious what the Allies are doing while you’re throwing everything you have toward France.

I always thought playing Italy or the US by themselves would be incredibly boring. Wait an hour for your first turn, buy 3 transports, and you’re done. Doesn’t sound like much fun.

If you have the money and the interest i definitely recommend picking up 1914. It’s a very different game with a very different rule set. Althought the production values aren’t as great on that one (same units for every power, more cheaply made plastic). I can’t say which is better; I like them both.

I can only think of one time that I’ve ever finished a game of any A&A version in the time it says on the box. And that was when my opponent surrendered after Japan took India in round 3.

RE: Bidding for OOBposted in Axis & Allies 1914
I’m not sure what you mean by increasing production. Are you galkingtalking about making Berlin worth more IPC? In this game the number of units you can place is not limited by the IPC value.
Sure, but Germany would get more money each tun…
For a bid, how about adding 4 more infantry in Africa? It should make Germany much more threatening in Africa (they can occupy 8 territories instead of 4).
I get that, just wasn’t sure that was the only intent.
Good idea. I’d love to see Africa become an actual factor instead of mutual trolling that it currently is.

RE: Game 4 Finished Uploaded to You Tubeposted in Axis & Allies 1914
I can think of a couple of valid reasons that the US may want to attack Spain, depending on its goals.
First, Spain is worth 4 IPC and there are limited opportunities for the US to increase its income on this board.
Second, Spain gives you a staging area to shuck troops to either Europe or the Meditteranean. Yes, you can get to Europe through Canada, and you can get to Albania/Middle East through Spanish Morocco, but only Spain gives you the choice of doing either.
I had the buys worked out for a Round 5 hit on Spain with good odds of taking it in one round, but I don’t know what I’ve done with it. I’m not suggesting the US should always hit Spain. In fact I’ve never actually tried it. But there are valid reasons for doing it, depending on your overall strategy.

Which doesn’t help you when you run out in the middle of the game. You can use paper or some other marker. The number of units and such isn’t limited by the number of chips.

RE: Alternative Winning Strategy and Tactics for Central Powersposted in Axis & Allies 1914
I’m not sure i agree. The only times I’ve seen the Central Powers do any good at all are when Germany spends at least a little on navy. Just enough do the Allies have to think about it.

RE: Longest Game Ever.posted in Axis & Allies 1914
I played a 4-man game that lasted 3 sessions of about 7 hours each. I forget how many rounds but it was in the 20s. Moscow and India were in CP hands but the Allies had about a million troops camped outside of Berlin. We finally just called it a draw.

Probably just a quirk in the printing. Fighters in sea zones have to start on the carrier.

RE: Need help on RRposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Hi Frederick. Sorry for the late response. Had to go refresh my memory on the RR rule because my group doesn’t use it.
A) the revolution occurs at the end of Russia’s turn, so Russia could concievably prevent it by contesting or recapturing territory. In that case they would be able to place their new units for use on the next turn.
B) I’m not sure I understand your question. Original territories are the territories that Russia controls at the beginning of the game. The ones with only Russia’s national symbol on them (not Serbia or Romania–those are neutrals). For the Revolution to occur the Central Powers must control 3 territories adjacent to Moscow, and either control or contest at least one other. This other territory can be adjacent to Moscow or not, so Finland or Poland would qualify.
C) correct. The revolution occurs after Russia’s turn, so the other Central Powers will not have gone yet in that round.
Also, just to clarify, the revolution can occur in Round 4 or any later round, as long as the conditions are met.

RE: Ottoman Empire's war planposted in Axis & Allies 1914
If UK goes all-in in India, then all the Ottomans can do is play defense. If UK splits his focus between India and Europe then OE can be a thorn in the side of the Allies. Definitely activate Bulgaria on turn 1, and you may need to help out against Russia. If you get the chance, take Egypt and grab some easy IPC in Africa. Then can you can be a real nuisance.

RE: Germany's war planposted in Axis & Allies 1914
Kill Russia First seems to be the go-to strategy for the CPs. You have to be very aggressive because is Russia is still a going concern when the Americans start arriving the CPs are screwed. The Allies’ economic advantage will overwhelm you. I agree with your moves, and i agree that you have to put at least something into your navy. Just enough to make Britain spend some money on ships.
Good posts. I’m curious what you intend to do with the Ottomans.
