    • RE: Rule Questions for AA50

      @Subotai:

      “Germany has the Paratrooper technology and holds Karelia, and is really  putting pressure on Russia.  It is Germany’s turn, and he has 3 Long Range Paratrooping Heavy Bombers in Germany with 3 Infantry who whould really like to visit Moscow this turn.  Also Germany has 2 Armor in Karelia, having just built them last turn.  Moscow is only defended by 6 Infantry, and Belorussia has no defenders (but is still under Russian control).  Russia also controls Archangelsk, Eastern Ukraine, Caucaus, and Kazahk with troops on each territory.  I want to attack Moscow by blitzing my 2 Armor through Belorussia having my 3 Long Range Paratrooping Heavy Bombers with 3 Infantry join in with them in the attack on Moscow.”

      If he captures Belorussia first (since this territory contain no enemy units), and then the tanks move to Moscow, then Belorussia is now controlled by Germany, isn’t it logic that the bombers could move like this: Baltic sea –> Karelia --> Belorussia --> Moscow ?

      If not, it means that the paratrooper rule states that a territory must be owned by the attacker at the start of a turn, if the bomber carrying paratroopers shall be allowed to fly through this territory. So in this case, Germany should already own Belorussia to be allowed to attack with paratroopers?

      Doesn’t all combat take place at the same time? This is a basic rule which is there since the beginning of A&A 1st edition.

    • RE: Italy + SBR = destruction?

      @Lynxes:

      I think that the best buy for Italy on turn 1 is TRS+1 inf. You need two transports to put up a real threat to Caucasus or in the Med. You need to leave 1 BB in CMD to protect that TRS build from the UK bmb on turn 1.

      The problem with combating Italy is that they have such a heavy shore bombardment force, which makes it hard to take Algeria. EGY and TRJ should fall to a combined German and Italian assault in almost every game, the big fight will be after the first 2 turns. I think a stronger concentration of naval and air forces is a better way to bring Italy down than just shipping land units into Algeria. Once that fleet is destroyed, Italy becomes a “sitting duck”. SBR vs. Italy can be effective I think as a preparation for entering the Med. A CV is a good buy for Italy, so preventing that build by using SBR can be a boost for the Allies.

      I couldn’t agree more with you. However you can always face German defeat at Egypt (like I described somewhere else).

      With 2 trns plus ground forces moving from Balkans to Ukraine the Italians are a force to be reckoned with.  :wink:

    • RE: Will the National Objectives benefit the Axis or the Allies

      @Craig:

      @Funcioneta:

      The best thing of NO is that they prevent KGF and probably also the gamey HB strat bomb campaign.  A 70 IPCs Japan invading America is not a funny thing for allies.

      Remember this post and get back to me after a bit of playing.

      I think that you will eventually “feel” the power of a UK with 50+ IPCs getting after the Germans by themselves and the US with 50+ IPCS using all of it against the Japanese.

      Craig

      UK going to 50 IPC’s? May I ask how you guys did that during playtesting? UK’s bonusses in Asia will be gone. Holding on the Egypt is very hard as well, that leaves merely France plus with the loss of the money islands to Japan, that won’t be enough to get to 50?

      What do I miss?

    • RE: The Italian overrun tactic

      @Imperious:

      310: can you post the moves on the first turn for Germany, Italy and Soviets

      I hope I can remember them all, but from our second game Germany opened as follows:

      Germany

      • Build 10 inf (what else is new :p)

      • Attacks:

      SZ 2 with 2 subs + 1 ftr cleared without loss since both subs made First strike hits
      SZ 6 with 1 subs + CA -> cleared without loss
      Egypt with 2 inf, 1 rtl, 2 arm, 1 bmb -> LOST, with 1 arm, 1 ftr remaining of UK
      Ukraine with 2 inf, 1 rtl, 1 ftr -> cleared, can’t remember how much I had left
      East Poland with 3 inf, 1 rtl, 6 arm -> cleared, can’t remember how much I had left
      Baltic States with 4 inf, 2 ftrs -> cleared, can’t remember how much I had left

      That was it. Egypt was a real bad roll making the African campaign a loser after G1. It is a must do move IMHO since you can’t afford the British to stay alive there, due to a possible Indian IC or worse, Allied ships in the Med.

      • Non Combat:
        1 inf, from Morocco to Lybia
        1 inf, 1 rtl from Germany to Poland
        1 ftr lands in Norway
        2 inf from Norway to Finland
        1 ftr lands in Germany
        2 ftrs land in Poland
        1 bmb land in Lybia

      • Collect income:
        35 IPC + 10 NO = 45 Income

      Russia

      Now I played Germany myself, that’s why I can remember a lot in detail, from Russia I remember a little bit less .

      • Build 1 inf, 1 bmb, 1 ftr, 1 arm

      • Attacks:

      On Baltic States with 7 inf, 1 rtl, 1 arm. But the rolls on the first round were not that good, so Russia decided to retreat back to Karelia.

      Then a lot of non-combat, forgive me how they went exactly, but in the end it was like troops in Moscow, Caucasus and Karelia. 1 inf in both Eastern Ukraine and Belorussia. Nothing special in Siberia, just massing inf at Buryatin.

      • Collect income:

      26 IPC +5 NO = 31 income

      Looking in hindsight the build of Russia was a bit too aggressive. Maybe 1 ftr less and 2 arm more would have been better. But from some things you learn.

      UK

      You didn’t ask for UK, but I’ll include them for short as well.  :wink:

      UK Build 1 CV, 2 DD’s and 1 CA

      UK cleared ALL ships of Germany, except one sub in SZ 6. So the nice rolls on G1 in the sea were cancelled out.
      UK ftr from Egypt killed the lonely trn from Germany so that was game over in Africa for Germany. They never returned there in the entire game. India was abandoned, also due to pressure from Japan.
      UK trn from Canada landed amph. in Morocco straight away.

      All UK builds were placed in SZ2.

      Italy
      -  Build 1 ftr (the normal build would have 1 trn and 1 inf, but since Egypt was not down and there were UK ships in the Med I couldn’t and had to move the Italian fleet to Gibralter to kill those ships.

      • Attacks:

      1 inf, 1 arm, 1 ftr to Morocco taken
      1 BB, 2 CA’s to SZ 13 vs 1 CA, 1 DD and 1 trn cleared without loss (BB took 1 hit)
      2 inf from Lybia to Egypt taken

      • Collect income:

      10 IPC + 5 NO = 15 income

      That was it. Overall, things didn’t go well for the axis due to the Egypt debacle. However Germany has to attack Egypt. UK will move those troops out and they will hunt you down later on if you don’t. According to the odds calc it is a 80% battle and in our first game Germany took it with 2 arm alive! Due to good rolls against the soviets the east front looked better and in the end that is what the Axis won the game.  Don’t know which turn, but first Italy took the Ukraine, to be followed by German armor + fighters. Then the same happened with the Caucasus, so Italy had a factory at Stalingrad (how cool is that ). Stalingrad was defended by Italians, Germans and even Japanese who had broken through India/Persia. The Germans only bought infantry in the first turns. With a USA going for 100% Pacific fleet (John Barbarossa can tell you about how that went), all those infantry moved east and after a few turns they ran over Leningrad, moved in to Belorussia and then the final blow on Moscow.

      There a very long story on how the first turn looked.

    • RE: The Italian overrun tactic

      I have to agree in the two games we played till decisive victory so far, the Italian proved very valuable in attacking Russia. With their fleet in the Med going to Ukraine and / Caucasus they can punch a hole in the lines of the Soviets.

      Or as we did in the last game, Italy manages to take Caucasus (already had troops in the Ukraine) and then Germany lands their fighters so Russia is unable to take Stalingrad back.

      In both our games, the axis won by the way. :wink:

    • RE: Will you play AA50 with NO's and/or Tech rules?

      Start with playing with both. If you never play with tech you won’t know what it does to the game and I don’t believe you have a right to give an opinion on tech.

      However when you played a few games and don’t like it, then throw tech away. NO’s are must IMHO since the axis won’t stand a chance without them.  :wink:

    • RE: Will the National Objectives benefit the Axis or the Allies

      Considering the fact that NO for the axis can be achieved and kept along turns a bit easier than the allies one, it’s an axis advantage for sure!

      But like Rakeman said, they need this advantage, otherwise you can throw away Italy with her 10 ipc and Germany will have a very hard time defending against a KGF + SBR campaign.  :wink:

      @Imperious:

      we are currently playing….

      Playing AA50 already?

      Ehhhh, yes of course, aren’t you then?  :-D

      Take the R9 version of the map, load her up into a photoshop program and start printing the map on a colour printer. Then take a big piece of laminate (don’t know the exact English word) and use it to make a 63" by 33" board like we did.

      Then use the pieces from AA and AAR and AAP for the different countries.

      By the way, welcome everyone on this board.  :wink:
