    • Why are so many people building an Indian IC?

      I just read another after action report in which UK build an IC in India. I don’t get that. How on earth is it possible to hold onto that IC with a decent Japanese player in those games?

      Is Japan only going for the islands on J1 or what? I mean you can easily tunnel in 3 inf 1 rtl to Burma, you kill off the fleet before the Indian coast and with your German buddy whiping Egypt on G1 no reinforcements there either. That leaves you with 5 inf, 1 rtl (2 inf from Borneo or East Indies) and a pack ftrs on J2 to take India.

      I am interested to hear how those games went when UK did build an IC in India. We have never encountered it nor saw an opportunity to do so.  :wink:

    • RE: Who Paid Full Price $99.00 for AA50?

      Hurrah, finally we got it on Monday in Holland too. We should have bought it at the local shops, but we pre-ordered in September at coolstuff already. Delivery took two weeks in the end (althought those f****s at Coolstuff said they shipped it at the 17th November, it was in fact done on the 25th).

      We paid $ 69.95 + freight around $ 40.00. With the current dollar/euro rate that was about 76 euro. Which is still cheaper than they are priced over here in the shops: 90 - 100 euro’s.

      Oh yeah, funny thing all the piececounts were correct apart from the USA we have +1 cruiser and -1 destroyer.  :wink:

      Cool an IC in Norway, I am sure UK or even better USA will be very happy with that one! :-)

      That would be a bit stupid. Why not save the 30 IPC of the 6 tanks and buy them when you can place them. That way at least you remain flexible.  :wink:

      Hmmm, true, but whenever somebody did it I and my playgroup corrected anyone who was so bold to make that move.  :-D

    • RE: Strategy: Bombs Over Berlin

      @Flashman:

      @Cmdr:

      There are two things I learned in Revised that I suspect are true in Anniversary as well.

      1)  She who controls the oceans, wins the game.  Period.  End of story.  I don’t care if you have a billion infantry and I have 1 infantry, if I own the oceans, I win.  Therefore, navy IS important. (my favorite trick in enhanced is to drop 2 or 3 submarines in the water every round with one of my nations until I dominate the oceans.)

      Why is this true?  Without a navy you cannot use any of your infantry offensively and, as we all know, turtle-ing as your only strategy is doomed to failure.  Eventually the one controlling the oceans will control the mainland and out produce you.

      2)  She who has the biggest air force, tends to win the game.  No idea why this is true.  I suspect it is related to your ability to mass more firepower on your attacks without risking them to counter attack.  It also is not ALWAYS true.  Sure, if England does nothing but buy fighters for the entire game, they might have the biggest air force, but they also have no ability to land troops.

      Now, if you assume both 1 and 2 above are true.  Then it makes sense to use air power to establish command of the oceans early, followed by a slow build of of warships to maintain that power, then to use your air power on frivolous things like SBR damage.

      You didn’t study under Don Rae, by any chance?

      I seriously doubt it, since Don Rae was a 100% supporter of infantry, infantry yet even more infantry. And rightfully so if I made add.

      If I read Jennifer correct she is advocating for Russia and Germany to buy ships/subs and air power……  :roll:

      Oh NO! that sucks. I understand if its an invasion, but to friendly its too much. More house rules.

      IL, come on, split unloading is never allowed in an A&A game.

    • RE: UK D-day

      The tactic described here is the basis of a KGF strategy. It only works to go to France on turn 2 if Germany does the IL tactic of building all tanks and going for Russia.

      You force the Germans to take back France instead of mini-me (Italy) and thereby weakening the power of the Moscow push severly. However indeed you need 8-10 units of UK to force the Germans to commit. 2-4 units won’t work since Italy can take care of them.  :wink:

    • RE: Strategy: Bombs Over Berlin

      There is one thing that’s different with the AAR bombing the hell out of you strategy:

      Germany won’t lose more than 20 ipc a turn and that’s only if she wants the maximum production in Germany which means 10 inf at the cheapest, so Germany will only start thinking about repairing for 20 ipc when she cashes 50 ipc or more.

      In reality Germany will probably repair between 10-20 ipc a turn, depending on how much cash she has. Let’s say around 38 ipc on hand. That would mean repairing 17 ipc of damage and still buying 7 inf a turn. Not much, but don’t forget there is one country less fighting you on the land = UK.

      This is of course without taking tech into account (if Germany repairs 2 at 1 IPC bombing is hardly effective) plus Germany might also have an IC in France which means you need to bomb 32 damage each turn on France + Berlin to get the maximum. That’s 9 bombers… With UK income going down the drain each turn I am not sure UK can keep that air force flying.

      @captainjack:

      Karelia starts with 5 inf, 1art.  Move 2 inf from Belorussia and 2 inf from Archangel, 1 arm from Russia, plus 2 arm builds.  Now at the end of R1, there are 9 inf, 1 art, and 3 arm. (defense of 29).  That’ll hold 'em - don’t you think?

      (Britian probably needs to committ the RAF to take out the German navy though)

      No, it won’t be enough if Germany puts her mind to Karelia on G1.

      To IL: It’s true you have better odds on Karelia on G2 (hurraah, we agree on something :-D), however how much do you have left after G1 in the Baltic States? Because I think that the possbility of Russia to counter Baltic on R1 is crucial in this IMHO. :wink:

      If Germany sends enough to Baltic and 4 inf to Finland you can’t hold it. Still I wouldn’t mind if Germany takes it, just make sure she can’t hold onto it!!!  :wink:

      1941: Bid 0 for China unless you are the President of the We love china club.  :-D

      Serious: 41 currently seems to favour the Axis, but when the Allies start 110% KGF I feel sorry for the Axis cuz it seems too powerfull to sustain.

    • RE: 41?…42?..Nos?....Tech?....

      @P-Unit:

      After two games, and much thought, I hate the NO rules because they are far too many of them to track, dragging down the game with everyone evaluating 6-10 extra territories a turn. Think about it, pretty much every nation has to not only track ~5 territories for their own NO, but has to keep an eye on the ~2 enemy nations around them to make sure they aren’t getting all of their NOs. Boooo, sorry, too much friggin work.

      They went WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overboard with the NOs. Instead, they should have made each nation have one obvious NO and there should have been a way to track each of them on the board with some sort of marker or plastic flag.

      If you find keeping track of the NO’s too much work, maybe you shouldn’t be playing A&A but chess?

      Come on, if you play a few games you know all the NO’s by head. At least our playgroup does… :wink:

      With all due respect, if you start defending yourself against LRA or para’s you end up losing too many games because you play too defensive.

      Sure you won’t lose that one game I would lose when my opponent gets that tech, but getting overprotective as Allies could lead to a loss of Moscow….

    • RE: Subs when they defend

      Since the attacker has no destroyer, the defending subs fire first when they chose not to submerge.
      The hit they made will result in a cruiser being destroyed before it gets the chance to fire back.

      After the sub rolls, two attacking cruisers and one defending cruiser roll their combat.

    • RE: 41?…42?..Nos?....Tech?....

      A lot of the tech’s breakthroughs can be a killer. Heavy bombers can lopside a big fleet battle or long range aircraft can cost you your invasion fleet or para’s even your capital……

      That’s why I personally hate techs. I like to win a game because one plays a better strategy not because one dice roll for 5 IPC. On the contrary, I don’t like low luck, the dice are part of the game and is something you need to take into account when making up your strategy. Against tech you can’t defend.  :cry:

      @Funcioneta:

      @Driel310:

      I know it sucks, but the KGF is even more scripted than in AAR since there is not KJF in this game. If performed well Japan won’t reach Moscow ever before Berlin collapses. I dunno how it turns out if Japan doesn’t advance on the mainland but goes to the USA. However I’ve still have to see a succesfull invasion of LA in this game. It’s so easy for the USA to counter and Japan keeps on having the logistic difficulties to tranny to LA.

      I think that in Revised KGF is not so scripted as many think, but that’s another different issue. I think Japan has more than enough income to attack America via Alaska landings and Alaska IC. If Japan gets improved industry … LA could fall before Moscow. And still there is that funny Ottawa VC there. Japan, with so much income and so much cheap bombers, can afford now a SBR campaign in LA (opposite as in Revised), so USA could fall even to 30 IPCs

      If Japan attacks America, with 65-70 IPCs still can afford 2 more ICs in mainland Asia and still annoy soviets and support Italy in Africa, because USA is fully busy defending their homeland. Soviets and UK must face now a 30 IPCs Germany, a 15-20 IPCs Italy and probably about 20 IPCs of japanese stuff (maybe even more, not sure). I think allies could survive more with a Pacific fleet, but without China (lost J1), that’s not a good option too.

      Allies are toasted in 1941

      There is a little problem in your reasoning, and that’s the time factor. Japan won’t reach 65-70 income until turn 5 at the earliest.
      Second problem: Invading Alaska AND holding it and resisting the USA counter takes a lot of troops which have to be trannied in. The extra trannies also cost you 1-2 turns.
      Third problem: You can bomb LA, but you can’t bomb Washington and LA at the same time unless you have a lot of bombers, again you need time to build up such a force.

      By the time Japan is all ready to rock to LA we are at what? Turn 10/11? Germany is toast by then. Another thing, you don’t actually need USA to take attack Berlin. USA only needs to secure Africa/take on mini-me (ehh, I mean Italy). That can be done in the first 5 turns, after which she can pay a lot of attention to the Japanese. UK at 30 IPC and Russia cashing 45 each turn will be enough to crack a Germany who gets 20 (not 30 like you said, remember you lose Poland+Scandinavia).  :wink:
