    • RE: Convoys

      @bugoo:

      You must already be at war to conduct a convoy raid.  The raid occurs during the collect income phase of the nation that is being raided.  In rare cases, say for example the axis control Normandy and the allies control Spain, and both the UK and germans have a sub in SZ 105 during the collect income phase of the owners of the territories, they would both suffer the income loss.

      And what happens if let’s say Germany owns Normany and Italy owns Spain? There is one UK sub in SZ 105. Who loses the 2 IPC income? Or do they both lose it, in which case one sub delivers 2x2 IPC damage……  :?

    • RE: AAE40 G2-3 Sealion Strategy!!!

      Ok, those seem fair naval attacks. Some are a bit tricky (2 subs vs 1 DD and 1 BB, 1 CA vs 2 CA’s) but it can be done.

      Then on G2 you buy like 7-8 transports to make G3 invasion right?

      So that leaves you with 18 ground units (you start with one transport, and I presume you have 18 ground units to load from the starting setup) against Britain’s 9 built on UK1, 9 (maybe 10 too hard to tell) on turn 2 + 2 Canadians. That’s 20 ground units (perhaps 21). Air power should make the difference than… UK can have 2 air units defending (Tactical from the ark royal + ftr from Cairo). Germany will have most likely 3 air units, but those have to face the UK flak first…

      All and all a tough attack on G3 to be honest.

      Miamibeach, true if you can counter the SZ112 fleet of Germany you don’t go after the Italians I guess.

      However if you can’t or Germany does not go Sea Lion this is very good attack and I am not quite sure this attack was foreseen during playtest.

      p.s. you talk about 9 inf defending UK, but what about the Canadian troops coming in?

    • RE: True Neutrals question

      It’s true that infantry will spawn, but remember those are friendly infantry units. In fact they become your property. So why would you have to stop for your own units…. Bulgaria is a good example. Can Germany use their tank blitz on NCM to control Bulgaria or not?

    • RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1

      I don’t think you have much chance to make 2 hits. You have 11,1% chance the first round and a very slim chance to make one hit the second round + UK not making two hits on defense the first round.

      Also if you make this attack, I think your Sealion chances will deminish because you can kill less UK North Sea fleet…… :wink:

    • RE: True Neutrals question

      @WILD:

      Edit: I would think that if you non combat ground units in (take ownership), that you still can not land air units there that turn. You didn’t own it since the beginning of your turn, but Kreig should clarify that.

      That would be against the basic A&A rule that you need to control a territory at the start of your turn in order to land planes on it during non-combat. So the only way to take over a pro-neutral is by walking a ground unit in it during non-combat.

      Only question that remains for me is can you blitz a pro-neutral or does your movement end like during combat moves. Krieg?

      That would be fun. You capture London with Germany but you still lose to Russia on your doorstep and USA pressuring your newly conquered island.  :-D

    • RE: Neutrality

      Per Djensen’s preview part 3:

      Before a power that starts the game “neutral,” like the United States and the Soviet Union, there are a few special rules.

      *** Cannot move into or fly over neutral territories.**
          * Cannot move into territories controlled by any other power.
          * May not use aircraft carriers, transports, naval bases, nor air bases that belong to another power
          * Does not block naval movements of other powers and may occupy the same sea zones as another power. USA can be in the same sea zone as UK or even Germany while not at war./li>
          * Cannot attack a territory of a power with which it is not at war.
          * If a power attacks a sea zone that contains both units from a power with which it is at war and from a power with which it is not at war, the units not at war to not participate in the battle and war will not result.
          * Declarations of war must happen at the beginning of the combat move phase before any combat movements are made.

      That’s clear enough.  :-)

    • RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1

      Germany only has 2 subs in range which are not enough fighting the CV, tactical and destroyer on G1.

      Actually the CV won’t take a hit on UK1 since you are not participating in the battle against the Italians.

    • RE: UK attack on SZ 95 Turn 1

      Actually, I do believe this is a good attack. You reduce the Italian navy to less than their half of their strength. If Italy decides NOT to attack you but go for Egypt, you can kill off the remainder of their fleet with the French (50% gambit) and on UK2 whatever is left.

      If Germany is going for Sealion there is even more reason to make this attack. Germany won’t have any planes in range left if they strafe the RAF on G1. Plus you can shuttle the tactical + fighter to London on UK2 from the carrier.

    • RE: AAE40 G2-3 Sealion Strategy!!!

      Sgt Blitz, from what I read of your strategies is that for Sea Lion you want to attack the RAF on G1 with 7 planes. That leaves you one fighter and 5 subs to attack the UK fleets with. How do you divide these units to kill off the 2 CA’s, the BB + CA and the DD + Trn, leaving UK with only one BB and DD around their home island?

    • RE: Straight of Gibraltar

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      I am very pleased with the new rules regarding Gibraltar and the Straight.  I always thought that Gibraltar was under represented in importance in AAA in the past.  It was not until AA50 that it was given any importance at all (NA for Italy and UK)

      Now that it controls the straight I think we will see alot more action in that theater.  Also the Pressure on the Axis and the incentive for going through Spain (or bringing them into the war) will be more historical.

      My only concern (and maybe a house rule will have to be made) is that Subs should be able to go through…  Both Allied and Axis Submarines went through during the war.

      Reading the true neutral rules, I don’t believe Germany wants to control Spain. The price is very high.

      Well one thing is sure: If Germany wants Spain, she is gonna pay for that. Russia will walk into Turkey and get 8 infantry. India will walk into Afghanistan and get 4 infantry.

      And that’s only the big boys! Not talking about the smaller neutrals. I guess Larry wanted the true neutrals to remain neutral.  :-)

    • RE: Political rules

      This is the same as in the Pacific where USA can’t attack Japan unless provoked for three turns. So I don’t see the problem. The political rules seem fairly historic to me.

      From what I read from the Sealion thread elsewhere on this forum, it by sure means is no guarantee that Germany can take and hold UK. It requires a lot of luck (assuming top German and UK players who know what they are doing) and winning maybe 2 or 3 50% battles in a row.
      I compare these kind of tactics to attacking Karelia on G1 in the old A&A 2nd and 3rd edition game (some of you probably never heard of that one…). Germany could attack Karelia, but if they lost it was game over and if they won it was game over as well. Not much fun in these kind of games now is there???

      However, if it proves that a Sealion attack could reach 70-75% chance to win by optimizing it the game is definitely broken and some inf should be added to the UK. But let’s wait a few games first.

      DJensen, thanks for editing your first preview with the real setup. Now we can finally end the discussion of the UK fighters in Britain.  :-D

      It would be truly great if you can also edit the pictures of the maps you posted to a higher resolution. One can click on them on the main page, but the resolution of the pictures remain 640x425 pixels.  :-(

    • RE: AAE40 setup ( now verified)

      I don’t see 3 bombers in Central USA in the setup nor in the screenshots from DJensen.

      It’s hard to tell but I don’t think it says bombers in the US setup chart. And in the test game from DJensen there is one shot from the Eastern USA building up where there is only one bomber in the Eastern USA. Probably (we don’t know the political rules exactly) because USA can enter any other territories than her own.

      @almashir:

      Yeah, he’s American.  What’s sad is that I probably know more geography than the average American, but I didn’t know that one off the top of my head.  I guess I could have looked it up if I wasn’t so lazy.  The picture of the roundel was small enough I couldn’t see the little orange dot in the center.  Ya know, what’s extra extra super pathetic is that I was actually married in the Netherlands and have a Dutch marriage license :oops:  I should have remembered how similar the Dutch and Czech roundels were.

      :-D :-D :-D , no problem m8. I hope you had/have a good marriage.

      @almashir:

      Sorry if this has been answered already, but I had a couple of questions about the pictures of the map and playing pieces.  I noticed on the countersheet with national roundels the British have their normal air force roundels plus 2 Union Jack roundels that seem to be slightly larger.  What are those for?

      Also, on South America, just North of Brazil, there are 3 roundels on the map - one British, one French, and one that appears to be Czechoslovakian.  Is that supposed to be a Czech colony???

      Bloody hell, don’t you Americans get taught in Geography these dates? That colony is Dutch! (currently the country of Surinam).
