      Commanders can indeed use their special abilities while on a vehicle. It was ruled someplace in the avalon hill forums. I can’t seem to find it right now.

      This is important, since my cousin simply refuses to let me have a russian commander (neither commissar nor cossack captain) use its abilities while on board a transport.  i disagree(d) with him completely, but sometimes in such arguments the person who is more stubbon wins.  mwahaha…but i love revisiting
      anyways, if someone else is interested, here’s what i found on the AH forum

      panzerfaust is a good unit too.  10/6 vs units is pretty good.  two of these guys charging a vehicle is scary, with their close assault 11 ability.

      considering a 150pt army

      • tiger I and the ss hauptsturmführer ( 70 pts )
      • panzer IV ( 30 pts )
      • 3 ss-panzergrenadiers and 2 panzerfausts ( 25 pts )
      • 5 mausers ( 15 pts )
      • 1 mg42 ( 10pts )

      i think its an army that can play well both defensively and offensively. sometimes we have our armies picked before the terrain, so its tough to know how you’re going to need to play.  there could even be slight modifications to the list above, like 5 grenadiers or less infantry overall for another tank or whatever.  the key is grenadiers defending your tanks.  no one is going to run up to a tiger if there’s a ss-panzergrenadier in the same zone as it.  neither would a us bazooka run up for a short attack on a panzer iv.

      or you could keep your tanks back, since they both have extended ranges (10 and 12) and let the infantry makes a charge on the objective.  the ss-panzergrenadier rolls better than an m1 (even with stars and stripes) and the cost is more than justified by the unit’s defense of 5.

      i can’t think of a 1942 allied/us army that’s better (well, rather i won’t….anyone?)
      the russian’s could be different.  but i’m just starting to play them, so i’ll have to get back to you on what i think the most effective combo is.  gotta love their cheap tanks…

      i think that jeeps not being able to carry artillery has more to do with how much time passes in each phase.  i mean, a jeep couldn’t just drive up and within seconds have an artillery ready to be pulled into battle and then fired in that same round.  anti-tank guns are pretty big, no?  that they move 2 reflects that they can move far (as far as an infantry who moves and moves) and not being able to move in the movement phase means they can move and attack, since it takes time to prepare a gun to be fired.

      actually, what i’d like to know is whether the tiger’s ability drops a face-up or face-down disrupted counter on units.

      i would say if it were face-down, naturally the soldier could fire defensive fire AND an attack phase if one came after. 
      if the counter were face-down, i would argue that the tiger’s ability would prevent that soldier from firing defensive fire.
      there’s no particular reason, just that it seems up in the air to me about which occurs first, and i favor the tiger being able to stop the defensive fire (:

      you have no idea what i suffered with when my cousin came up with the same argument, saying it was impossible to get damaged unless someone hit 2 successes higher.  and he’s very stubborn sometimes.  i almost let his tiger get away without damage.

      i’ve played a three player 150pt game, but we had 1 axis player with german and japanese troops, an allied (uk/us) player and a russian.  like the old axis and allies.  basically the allies and russia shared initiative.  i find the map wasn’t big enough.  in the end, the allies and russia were just discussing what to do together, treating the troops as one army (inspiring lt. helping mosin-nagants!)
      the idea was to have two seperate armies…but it didn’t really happen. 
      maybe next time (:

      doh! i missed that info on page 31.  thanks!!  (sorry to have asked here :P )

      but i do have one more question.  i had an instance yesterday where a tiger I  moved into (through, actually) a zone which had a jeep with a bazooka guy on it.  i understand that the bazooka cannot shoot defensive fire on the tiger, but rather, can the tiger disrupt the bazooka guy who is on the jeep?

      also, since i’m on the subject, when the tiger disrupts a solder, is it a face up or face down disrupted marker?

      Hello, I have a few questions about the Jeep’s ‘Transport’ special ability.

      Transport - This unit can carry one Soldier (a friendly Soldier can board or dismount this unit instead of moving during your movement phase)

      Now, can the anti-tank gun (Soldier unit) board the jeep, even tho it doesn’t have any movement points (Speed) during the movement phase?

      Can a Soldier board and dismount a jeep in the same movement phase?
      If not : If the jeep is destroyed with a Soldier in it, is the Soldier dead too?
