This game got me back in to A&A when it came out in 99.
      Always liked it.

this is the best Strat when losing.

Look at ur opponent in the eye, Grab the table edge, then in a angry tone flip the whole table over and Say “Fudge that poo” there, u win every time.

I think the biggest transition problem has been that all the imported messages were marked as “new.” But that should go away after a few days.

Also over the next few weeks I hope tp change the look to be more like the main website. However, I’ll probably leave the feel alone. Look meaning images, colors, and graphics. Feel meaning placement, organization, and flow.

      @Ubermarine:

The Polish Calvalryman is a nice touch to the game.  Thay will be easy to use in groups of 3 or 4 against soldiers.  Im thinking the best way to use them will be to hide and rush machine gun nests.

Not just machine gun nests but also for going after BAR Gunners, anti-tank guns, and commanders. But I really don’t think you need more than 1 or 2 to accomplish this. It is very easy for the cavalry out of line of sight.

      ?

Thank you very much, that certainly does help.

The scale is quite good but I can see myself adding a bit more detail/colour, or even just mud, to some of those vehicles.

A bit more effort could have been made there, if you compare them with Heroclix or Star Wars miniatures they are almost more like the little plastic soldiers we had as kids, the momotone plastic parts of some of the tanks like the Panzer IV turret are particualrly bad and the light grey MGs look like tacky add ons…

A real attraction to these games for me is not having to paint them, but here it looks like I’ll have to spruce them up a bit anyway. Thanks again.

      ?

Last Thursday I played this army:

      USA - M1 Garand x3
      USA - “Red Devil” Captain
      USA - Jeep x2
      UK - SMLE No. 4
      UK - 6-Pounder Antitank x2
      UK - Vickers MG Team
UK - Humber Scout Car x2
      USSR - T-34/76

Despite my crappy roles during the game I managed to hold on and almost win, despite losing my T-34 to a Tiger-I.

Some key things that I learned during the game were that cover is very important. The Jeeps were useful to get soldiers to the front very fast.

The Humber Scout Cars are good but just don’t leave them out in the open for attack, that’s what makes the strike and fade very useful.

      Here are the major differences…

      1. The Turn order is determined by a sequential action of cards that give orders to one side or the other…

      2. There is no production… Instead Troops come in via a reinforcement chart that you roll for to determine what comes ashore (or from Rouen and Rennes)

      3. The Objective (for the Allies) is to seize 3 VC (Cherbourg, St. Lo, Caen) by turn nine and hold them for a turn… otherwise the Germans win…

      4. There is now a limit of 8 Land Units for one side or the other (so The Allies can only have 8 units in a zone and no more, the germans can not have any more either)…

      5. Allies can only have Aircraft… German Artillery are AA capable… The Germans now get Blockhouses that get to target Allied units coming ashore… Plus all German defends on 3 instead of the allied 2

      6. Fortune Cards (optional) can give one side or the other an advantage brought on by bombings, shortages, Weather etc.

      7. Tactic Cards (optional) give a one time use advantage to one side or the other…

      8. Battles only last one cycle, so you have to be selective to not tie units down…

      here is the rulebook: http://www.wizards.com/avalonhill/rules/axisdday.pdf

Overall it is more of a training game to teach the mechanic of fighting to new players imo… but it is a great short game… Although it can get boring with the same strats that usually get played… IF you want blockhouse pieces though get it…

As an A&A game, yea it does suck pretty hard. As a stand alone WWII RTS it is not too shabby. It is one of the few RTS games that takes supply into consideration, and unit morale. I kinda like it. But if you are looking for a Axis and Allies type game you probablly will not like it.
