but if you attack the south east hex (where you said that one men would be) then you kill that with 6 tanks (turn 3) then the men from eupen need do defend verviers, so than the both are weaker than before, and if its only the half at eupen than you can kill it easy (with the 6 tanks)

and about the air-force, if you move your men in a hex-no hex position, that is: you move your men in one hex, the next one not, the next one full enz. because then the airforce can’t do you so much (if you roll a lot of A-A dice the airplanes will die faster than with a few)

and about bastogne, you can move your truck in turn one with a few supplys to one-hex from bastogne. than the rest will slow down, because not evryone has supplys, but you can’t do enything about that…

and the thing abaut bastogne was that they needed to re-enforce bastogne, and then they couln’t re-enforce eupen, so you can conquer it faster and

      @Imperious:

Cant somebody just crack the original CD-rom game and reconfigure it for revised?

I think somebody posted are made the source code availible a while back.

All it would take is a week with a decent programmer.

What would be the point when we have TripleA?

Wow!  I am flattered!  Thanks for the vote of confidence on the articles.  Really, I prepared the essays hoping to get more players interested in the game, so that I would have more opponents.

I still have 1 or 2 more essays ideas to finish but have been too busy to complete it.  I’ll try to get to the last ones in the next few weeks.

We only have two games in and so far I would only disagree with one point on this. I don’t think the Allies should try to hold the entire line or keep it smooth. I think they have to give in the middle and pick at the Germans from the sides. Let it bulge and get overextended and chop it off.

It seems to me that the Allies must hold a line from Martelange, Bastogne, Ortheuville and the hex central to Rochefort, Marche, La Roche and Ortheuville. The other key is Liege and Verviers the Germans need to somehow be made to pay dearly for those hexes or kept out entirely.

I’m wondering if it isn’t best to pull everything that lives thru turn one combat back a hex to stall for time to get dug in on the lines I mentioned above?

I think the other key for the Allies is not to leave supplies for the Germans to capture. The bare minimum to shoot at the Germans and that is it. Except for Hexes you are intent on not vacating don’t move any supplies directly to a hex on the front. I think that the best hits for the Allies is on the German supplies. That will slow 'em down more than making them retreat or destroying them (which of course don’t hurt.) “Don’t let 'em have the gas. Burn it. Burn it.”

As for aircraft you have to hit hexes you want to be hit less hard from, cover hexes you don’t want the Germans to weaken and go after the supplies (which as you said is common sense.)

That is my thoughts on two games and some time moving things around on my own. The last game as Germany I pretty much destroyed everything on the first turn attack and rolled to a turn 5 victory. The dice were nice but I think my opponent doesn’t have a feel for this game yet.

This is what I’ve come up with so far.  I’m trying to find a way to print them on a 3"x5" card so I can tape them to the reference sheets.

      Der LeiterD

Rangers are strong competitive piece, though unless they get new (non-improved) indirect fire units the Spotter SA is mostly just thematic.

      (Edit)Here’s my full review:

As the opening salvo says, “its inevitable that it will be compared to the Axis workhorse, the SS-Panzergrenadiers.” Quite true, though thankfully the Rangers have enough differences to keep them from being just carbon-copies.

The Lead the Way SA is interesting in that it’s once per turn, not per phase (or during movement and/or assault), so be careful when you use it; unless it’s to grab a last minute objective, re-rolling a movement roll isn’t too important, though thematically it’s nice.

Spotter is again nice, if not too useful. The M1 81mm Mortar doesn’t need a spotter, nor do spotters enhance them, and the open back M7 105mm Priest is an easily neutralized unit. I suppose you could save 1 point and use the Russian mortars instead if you really wanted to. Also, lacking the Spotter SA they can’t enhance aircraft.

The Rangers have slightly improved defence and a re-roll over the similar Veteran SMLE Riflemen; the only time the Australian unit is, well when you can’t take Rangers (eg Pre-1942 game). By themselves the Rangers are at the high end of 5 points, but compared to the Garand they perhaps should have been 6; as is they make the Garand fairly useless. Sure the Garands can have the same dice, without a re-roll, but that requires more points for an adjacent commander, and is -1/-1 defence.

A great unit that I’m sure will see a lot of use both in casual and competitive games: 4.5/5

The A&AR board is only about 8" x 8" folded up. It turns out that I can fit all of the other peices that I need in my 7" dice tray.

Also, I just thought of this one today. How about this …

Heroes can only spawn after being hit by an enemy unit or successfully hitting an enemy target.
