@captainwalker Yeah, last night I was working the problem and causing a few disruptions while doing it. Everything should be stable now and far fewer bots taking up resources.

Okay, this time for real. We’re running through Cloudflare now. Sticky sessions enabled so that your websocket sessions don’t switch servers and get all confused.

I was seeing the yellow box in the lower right corner warning that “it looks like you’re not connected” or something like that.

I restarted a few things and it went away for me. I’m hoping that you all are also not seeing that error but if you are. Please let me know.

Also; the site really does seem faster, right?

I enabled Cloudflare so I think it’s working. Sorry Chinese AI bots, you don’t get to have A&A in your language models.

However, I think there are some issues with over-aggressive caching. Working on it.

I’m contemplating a new support tier.

A. What should it be called and what color should it be?
B. How much? Would $300 be to big of a jump? 120 follows the pattern but is it “enough?”

I think we need to max out at 2. We should create “roll-up” topics when there are multiple things to share.

For instance, this forum should have:

• Support Drive (no date): it contains the current and links to the past.
• Tips and Tricks: with links to dice bot

What we really need is a really good feed of suggested topics and an email campaign to reveal them. Reddit absolutely mastered this. I used to be an occasional Reddit … then the emails came and they were relevant and fun and I enjoy getting that email. Actually, I mostly just go direct to Reddit now.

Looking back. I probably should’ve selected Discourse as the forum engine. The deployment strategy, at the time, was more complex than I wanted. I had a grudge against Ruby on Rails projects (kinda still do). But the UI was clean. I bet the API is cleaner and less breaking. Making another change might cause more churn though.

@Elrood Thanks. It might be another $25/month in operating costs.

I think I’ll have to up the subscriptions or add a new tier. If Board Game Nation can charge $5-$25/month; I can probably do the same? I’d prefer the yearly thing though.

It turns out that Chinese bots are hammering the site. I’ll sign up for Cloudflare this weekend and hopefully that helps reduce the load on the site by blocking the bots.

I’ve rebooted the server. Hopefully that resolves the problems.

However, there is always next year. If you and @Private-Panic can coordinate dates for late Winter or early Spring, that would be helpful. That is, hold Battle of Britain on one weekend and Wiking Con on the following weekend.

Nov. 7-9 is out because of BGN Battlefront Dayton.

Oct. 17-19 is out because I’m attending a high school reunion.

Oct. 26 and Nov. 1 could potentially work for me.
