    • RE: Who are you?

I’m David Jensen, your Axis & Allies.org webmaster/forum admin. I’m the guy everybody loves for having the site but hates for not updateing it enough. I have been running this site since 1997. Before the name change to Axis & Allies.org the site was previously called DJ’s Axis & Allies Archive.

I’m 24 and I’ve been playing Axis & Allies for about 12 years. I don’t play nearly as much as I used to. I’m a software engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area so if you live here let me know so we can play sometime (except during the winter when there is snow in Tahoe).

    • RE: A&A tournaments, player rankings etc

I’ve tested out playing an email game (PBEM). I think it pretty much sucks.

I’m sorry but none of the clubs explain how to play very well and all of the intefaces/notation is not very intuitive or user friendly. If you play and it works well for you, kudos to you! But I just don’t have the time nor the desire to try to figure that stuff out.

What is needed is something that is very visual and easy to use but still requires you to own the game to play (otherwise Hasbro will send their hounds at you). Maybe I’ll come up with something and put it on the site. (and everybody replies “yeah right!”)

    • Moving topics.

I am currently in the slow and painstaking task of moving many of the discussion topics from “General Discussion” to more approprate categories.

If I make a mistake, please let me know right away in the “Website Discussion” forum. Thanks!

    • RE: Radical U.S. First Turn Option

      The odds were calculated incorrectly.

You have approximately a 56.9% chance of rolling a six in six rolls, meaning only one technology. Each additionaly die you purchase adds a less and less significant ammount to this percentage. After you get the technology you still only have a 1 in 6 (or 16.67%) chance of getting a specific technology.

Actually I’m not sure sure about this number. The number I calculated was the chance of getting EXACTLY one and only one technology. I think I need to think about this some more. Any probability math gurus out there?

Russian not being allowed to attack on the first turn is an optional rule.

    • RE: New guy.

If you have a little bit of artistic ability, you can take the time and paint your own board. One of my friends did this. First, get a giant piece of plywood. Sand it until it is smooth. Cover it with a few coats of primer paint. Then get some acrylic hobby paints and go to work. If you want your country labels to look nice, you can get some of those transferable letters. Then when you are done you can put some sort of sealant on it. It’s a ton of work but the finished product is incredible.

    • Forums messages destroyed.

I recently discovered that the forums were hacked. Unfortunately all of the messages were lost. However, the good news is that none of the valid usernames were affected. You can still log in and post messages.

Within the next few days I will restore all of the forums.

For the future I will work on some sort of backup and recovery mechanism. I also plan on writing my own message board so that I know all of the ins and outs of the sytem. However, I think this may be a limitation of php and not the message board software. If there are any php gurus out there send me an email.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the mess.
