    • RE: Availability

Last October, the site was indeed hacked in that somebody found a way to delete all of the messages and rename the message boards. However, luckily, none of the user accounts were affected.

I cleaned everything up and people started up right where they left off. Thanks everybody!

As for the red folders, that is a limitation of the message board software that I am using.

    • RE: Availability

I apologize for the down time. We seem to be having some infrequent hardware problems on the server that is running this site.

Please be patient while this problem is resolved. If you have problems connecting to the site, please re-try again within a few hours.

Another idea I just had is unique anonymous posting identifiers like Anonymous001, etc.

So you can sign up for an anonymous account without an email address but if you forget you password you are out of luck.

Sorry, I don’t think the A&A CD-ROM idea is possible. Its a good idea but it can’t be done by anybody except those who wrote the game.

If you want to play the CD-ROM with others online, then you’ll probably have to stick with using the MSN Gaming Zone http://www.zone.com

      Another idea …

      • A&A chatrooms

    • New Website Ideas

Over the course of the next year I am planning on redesigning this web site and almost everything about it. The only thing that will be modified only slightly will be the graphics.

      Things I want to accomplish

      • Make it easier for people to post contributions to the strategies and house rules section.

      • Make it easier for me (or a moderator) to edit (some people have really bad grammar) and then add contributions to the site.

      • Redesign the message board from scratch while keeping a similar format with more useful features.

      • An extensive play by email/web server. Including a dice server. I was thinking of creating an XML protocol that represents playing Axis and Allies and the designing a web based front end to hide those user-unfriendly details.

      • I’d also consider providing some sort of reference map that is useful but limited enough that you would still need to own the game to play (I don’t want to get into any legal issues).

      • Also if anybody has the time and skills, I’d like to see a real quality PDF version of the rule books, not this image-scanned oversized-file crap that Hasbro provides.

Any other ideas or comments on these ideas are welcome.

      Thanks.

    • RE: Links

I’ll have to be honest, I haven’t chacked that email in a long time and I’m really backlogged.

Sorry, I’m working on a site redesign. The look and feel won’t change too much but the big changes will be in making it easier for me to update and change the content on the site. As soon as I’m done with that, I hope to make changes and updates almost dynamically as user submitted material comes in.

    • Website is back!

It seems that the IP address of the server changed Tuesday night and I didn’t find out until last night. So I updated DNS and everything seems to be working this morning. It may take longer for the change to affect some people but they won’t be able to read this until that happens anyway.

      Sorry about the mixup everybody.

Ok, I’ll check it out and remove old sites. Maybe I should just list the “cool” or useful sites.

What’s with kids people these days? Don’t they understand the difference between “YOUR” and “YOU’RE”?

    • Posting Guidelines

I realize that this forum is not high traffic yet. But even with the few messages we have it is a strain to find the location in the subjects lines.

To remedy this I would like everybody who posts a new topic to use the format of typing your location first, followed by a colon and then your subject message. If you are looking for online players use “Online” for your location.

      For example …

SF Bay Area: Looking for players on Sundays
Online: Anybody want to play Thur. night?

I have already converted all the topics in the forum to this format.

      Thanks.

      To All “Anonymous” Posters,

Can you do one of two things for us. Either register for a username (the email address requirement is only used for forgotten passwords OR manually type in a signature at the end of your post.

We just need a way to distinguish between the different Anonymous poasters.

      Thanks,

We just need a way to distinguish between the different Anonymous posters especially within a single topic.

Okay, now I’ve added a different Amazon.com “storefront”. Please let me know if it dramatically slows down load times for the pages. I’d especially like to here from those of you on dailup.

    • Ads

I realize the ads are annoying but running this site is not free. Over the next few days/weeks I’ll be working on a way to make it less annoying.

BTW, if the list to the right still shows “Empire of the Sun”, IMHO that is a really good WWII drama.

    • "New Player Help" to "Player Help"?

I was thinking of renaming the forum “New Player Help” to simply “Player Help”. This way the forum can accomodate both newbies and veterans.

      Comments, please.

    • How to spend 12 IPCs

There was a great discussion on the previous message forums (before everything was lost) about how to spend the 12 IPC in A&A Europe.

Anybody want to share their thoughts on this?
