Well you did the best you can. You might want to teach Germany a thing or two if you want to keep him/her as your partner (a big if). Almost taking Russia and UK? :o You should be REALLY proud of that.

RE: Attacking sub withdrawl after a naval victory?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
Xi is right about withdrawing attacking subs. Also in general all attacking naval units withdrawing on the same round must retreat to the same sz(through which at least one attacking unit entered the battle.)
Here is the vague part: 2nd edition rules say defending subs must withdraw to ANY ONE adjacent friendly or unoccupied sz. In the “Clarification” ( ), it says they withdraw BACK to one adjacent friendly or unoccupied sz. What’s the ruling here in the forum?
It’s not such a simple topic is it, Xi?

@Wiz:
Can you put ICs on neutral terriorties(after capturing them), and have them produce one unit/turn?
(Dreaming of a Sick Axis attack on USA….Japan throguh canada, and Germany through south america…)
Yes you can put ICs on neutrals, just like any territories. It goes something like this: 1st turn capture and pay 3 IPCs. 2nd turn build IC. 3rd turn and after 1 unit/turn. So you have to hold the neutral for at least 2 turns before producing 1 measly unit/turn. Usually not a good investment, except for a Japan IC in Switzerland. :o
Homework: look up that strategy in the forum. Now tell us more about this Sick Axis attack, including the turn by turn weapon development, purchases, combat/non-combat moves, income collected, recommended age of your Allies opponents, and any Voodoo curses on the Allies. We all need a good laugh sometime.

RE: What to do with Japanese transport in Indian Ocean?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
I can’t resist asking why that darn tranny in the Indian Ocean is even alive? British bomber crews must have been impaired by bad weather…or perhaps they were caught on the ground in India on J1 :)
I agree SUD, but not every UK player is as capable of using his/her bomber as you and me.
Anyway haven’t I convince you not to do Australia right away? Supporting Asia and cleaning up the US fleet is the priority. Australia can wait. After you’ve built an IC in Asia, you can then send TWO trns plus whatever to Australia. 8) -
RE: Desperate Helpposted in Player Help
It’s still salvagable (a real long shot).
The Allies are not too bright either, with a total only ONE transport.
I’m really interested to know how the game turns out. Please keep us posted Guest. -
RE: Africaposted in Axis & Allies Classic
Yes it is 1HBB. I see the value in taking Gibraltor but then i cannot transport to libya to possibly take Egypt next round. Also I’ve attacked UKBB in Med with BB and Bmr. If UKBB hits a parting shot, I was thinking of losing the BB. The Bmr being used later against Allied transports. Don’t forget i now have a tran at Algeria. Do I still need to build a tran on G1? I know there are lots of ways to do this, but for experienced players what works best most often?
Your SEu tran will be killed by UK bomber and Alg tran killed by US bomber. So you have no Med fleet on turn 2 already. Even if you build a tran in SEu the 2 tran can still be easily killed by the UK bomber. So the lesson is to keep your tran and BB together. Take the bomber as your loss. Build a sacrificial tran in SEu and the UK BB will most likely go after it. Then take your Infs from Gib to amp aslt with BB and Ftrs Egypt or Libya if the UK is foolish enough to take it. Your fleet should survive for a few turns. In the unlikely event that the UK bomber attacks BB and tran, you may want to take BB as a loss so you can take the Inf off Gib and still amp aslt. Taking your tran as a loss is also OK but then you have to choose either rescuing the Gib Infs or amp aslt. The Infs can also walk into Spain but not a good idea. Of course all these will be spoiled if the UK sub survive. :(
I’m usually a conservative player but Germany really can’t be conservative. Build a transport and 8 infantry, in fact all infantry for the first few rounds as Germany, ya need the fodder. Move the BB and transport with 2 infantry against egypt, tank and infantry from Libya to Egypt and drive the tank through French Equatorial Africa. If the brit sub hits and you hit, bummer but take of the BB, it bites but past T2 if you have put 6 infantry in Africa the fleet has done it’s job. If the sub hits and you miss a real bummer, take the BB off and drop the infantry off in Libya and hope for the best. Ya the newly built transport can be hit by the Brit bomber but it must land in spot you can hit, ensure you have a bomber and fighter or more in Western Europe after T1 to hit any air on gibralter and any transports the allies use for africa or build off the US coast. Make them sacrafice their transport to get a few men in africa……
Yeah, that’s why I’m reluctant to go after Egypt on the first turn. Losing the BB spells a quick death to the Med fleet. But your way does give Germany a quick start in Africa. :D

RE: Africaposted in Axis & Allies Classic
I’m guessing you’re playing 1HBB?
I usually have my Med fleet stay put on the G1 but this approach might work better.
You should also load your Med Trn into the Med BB battle to take Gibrator so the UK plane cannot counterattack. Build a sacrificial Trn (Make the UK bomber choose between going after BB and Trn at Gibrator or lone Trn at SEu. Most people choose the lone Trn. 8) ). On G2 you can then amph aslt Egpyt, possibly with planes too.
Bringing the armor into Africa seems to be the more popular option for the reasons they have stated, ie to blitz Africa quickly. -

Trying to get it back to england via south africa takes too long.
Not to mention getting bombed by Germany, unless you steer towards the US. What a trip!
And good point Xi. :D -

RE: What to do with Japanese transport in Indian Ocean?posted in Axis & Allies Classic
Germany holds all of Africa by turn 2? Congrats! :D
If there is no money for Japan in Africa, then I think the best course of action is then to use the Indian Trn to bring the East Indies Inf to FIC. Then it can move back to Japan Sea to help transport troops next turn. The Pearl navy should go after the remaining US fleet or move back to Japan Sea if US decides to build a Pacific fleet.
The 2 Infs in Australia can be tough to beat. You’ll need to send a large part of your Pearl navy to help out. Even then they can easily score two hits and make you regret while the US fleet slip into the Alantic. In other words, fighting 2 Infs with 2 Infs plus whatever is inadequate and risky. -
RE: How did you first learn about A&A?posted in General Discussion
A-Bomb?! :o
What were the makers of the game thinking?
So were the strategies any different then? Was there a race to get A-Bomb? -

Yeah, I was drawn by the box as well.

RE: Desperate Helpposted in Player Help
1. I should add that it’s important to maintain at least 5 transports in the Japan Sea and don’t build anymore ICs in the mainland.
2. Should have at least 10 INFs each in Persia, SinKiang and Yakut, then you could build tanks in Japan and INFs everywhere else (You need at least 2 to 1 ratio of INFs to tanks to attack Russia, so build some tanks when you can afford them).
3. Put your planes in SinKiang when they’re not needed to defend Japan Sea.
4. If Russia is defending the 4 surrounding territories with light forces (1 or 2 INFs) but have a large force in Russia itself, then capture as many of them as you can using just enough INFs and planes only. DO NOT use your tanks in this case.
5a. If Russia has a large force in Kazakh or Novosibirsk, strafe it (hit for 1 or 2 turns then retreat) with everything from the two adjacent territories (But use just 1 or 2 planes if it has AA. In that case wait for more tanks from Japan. Tanks from Man. can reach Novo or Evenki, so it’s possible to strafe Evenki with these tanks and from Yakut alone, depending on the size of the army in Evenki).
5b. Be careful not to capture the territory if Russia has a large counterattacking force.
5c. Retreat to Persia or Yakut after the strafe as SinKiang will be reinforced by own IC and from FIC. You might also want to land your planes in Yakut or Persia depending on the threat on SinKiang.
6. Hopefully Germany can hold out before you can capture Russia. Hope this helps and keep us posted. Good luck.
