      Guys,

I don’t know how many folks here scan all the boards, but there is a fellow that formed a company called Field Marshall Games, FMG for short.  He is making accessories for A&A and is about to release new pieces for the A&A games.  The first release will be a complete set of Italian pieces.  The other nations will follow and I think this is going to be a great thing.  If you have time, check out this thread.

      http://www.axisandallies.org/forums/index.php?topic=13894.0

It is already over 35 pages, so it will take a long time to read.  But the essence is he is about to take the next step and take pre-orders for the Italian pieces.  I bought a set of special dice from FMG and I am happy with them.  He is also selling a dice tower.  He plans to add other stuff.  I hope he gets plenty of support so he can fund the development of all his projects.  Take a look.

The novelization of the third movie was much better than the actual movie itself. All three of the prequels should have been scrapped or redone….That being said here my quirks…

The SSD Executor crashing into the Death Star…cmon there had to be a back up bridge or cic…

The whole “What I told you was true, from a certain point of view” line

Millions of dollars (credits) worth of military equipment destroyed by vines, logs, teddy bears, and harpoons and tow cables.

The change of Darth Vader’s line in the updated version of ESB- “alert my star destroyer to prepare for my arrival, provide fan fare and a fresh pot of coffeee…” ok made the last part up…

      The silly Jabba dance scene…lame…

Last point two star wars recoomendations- Robot Chicken’s poke at Star Wars and Star Wars Episode Three The Lost Hope…

      One more thing …

The opening turn would be a single round attack by the Japanese with a 5 damaging ships and a 4 or less killing a ship; and air and ground units are killed on a four or less.  The Allies damage a ship on a 2 and kill a ship on a 1.  Air and ground units are killed on a 1.

This is my starting thought on a first turn Japanese advantage.

Lets see if that can survive some play testing.

I think me and my friend technically played ‘to the death’.

I just bought Guadalcanal about a week ago (and bought AAP40 yesterday :-D), and played my first full game with my friend on Friday night. We played from about 7.30-2.00, it was pretty awesome.

Anyway, I played Japan and he the US, and from the first turn he took Guadalcanal, and from there proceeded to mass a sizable navy which gave me a lot of trouble, as well as a decent air force. It was hard going for me, though I had a strong presence on Bougainville and Choiseul. Most of my efforts went into maintaining my navy (which was massed in zones B and F), and AA guns (which I sent to Bougainville and Choiseul), to combat his navy and planes.

Towards the end there was a decisive battle, in which I almost overpowered his navy (this, I think, would have almost led me to victory then and there - he had almost no units behind about zone G), but alas, he rebounded and from there I was a goner.

In a fit of desperation I started making rules such as ‘last stand’ (where Japanese transports get 10 attack each - it was late at night), but he still defeated me with something like 3 battleships and a menagerie of other ships.

I made him attack my base directly, and he simply blew my 15 or so infantry units right out of there with his battleships, and that was that.

It was a lot of fun though, and my friend (who usually plays Xbox 360 all day) seemed to enjoy himself, and is keen to play AAP40.

Sorry to have been off the grid for a lot of days for me. Dinosaur you bring up a bunch of things that I will give some additional thought to.

Off the top of my head I suggest units have a value for ‘turns from enemy contact.’ This value could be for each phase and then add to some sort of base unit type value.

Also maybe the whole scale should be in some sort of relation to Victory points?

Both the Battles of the Eastern Solomons and the Santa Cruz island battles were carrier battles which were part of the Guadalcanal Campaign.

We lost the Hornet in the Santa Cruz Battle and Nagumo was relieved of his command after the fight and the Japanese lost the Ryūjō at Eastern solomons. The biggest losses were to Japanese Air Crews and these two fights basically finished off the veterans.

Well the Japanese Sub I-19 torpedoed and sunk the US Carrier Wasp operating south of the Solomons in support of the Guadalcanal campaign.

I don’t know that I ever think that victory points aren’t cumulative.  :|

There aren’t many games where points come off the board. Pacific does but since only Japan has them taking points down is the Allies way of scoring.

One of the things I like about BOTB and Guadalcanal are the victory points. Fights to the bitter end always feel a bit static.

Well, I mush admit that sounds ambitious right now.  I am thinking about going after New Georgia in round two, three or four.  I guess I need to get back and run a few sample games this weekend myself.
