    • RE: FRANCE and ANZAC COMBAT DICE - HELP us design them!

      @knp7765:

      Hey DFWSupertrooper,
      I could agree with you on all but one – the Italian combat dice.  I don’t want them to use the “correct” roundel.  I like the green outer edge with the red dot in the center.  Yeah, I know people have pointed out that it is actually the roundel for Iran, but really, Iran wasn’t one of the big powers of WW2.  In fact, it wasn’t even Iran back then, it was still Persia.  Except for them being forced to accept Soviet troops occupying their soil to prevent any Axis incursion and the Lend Lease supplies passing through to Russia, Iran/Persia really wasn’t a part of the war.
      Also, I personally just like that roundel better.  I think it looks better.  The “correct” Italian roundel looks weird to me.  A&A Miniatures used it in one of their naval sets on the stat cards and it was odd looking.  With the next set and every one since, they went back to the OOB Italian roundel.  I’m guessing more people wanted that one.
      One other thing to consider, if you use the roundel with the red outer edge and green dot in the center, it will look awfully close to the French roundel, red outer edge with blue dot in the middle.  Granted, I don’t think anyone would confuse a French territory for an Italian territory or visa versa, but I also don’t think anyone will confuse Italian territories for Iranian territories.
      Of course, maybe you aren’t worried as much about historical accuracy as it is more a personal preference thing for you.  In that case, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.  Hopefully, for both our sakes, if FMG ever decides to go with the “correct” Italian roundel on future Italian combat dice orders, perhaps they will simply keep both versions for whomever wants them.  I know that HBG offers his Invasion Italy maps with all three roundel choices;  OOB, correct, facist.

      No you’re absolutely right…I LIKE the wrong one better.  Im fine with it on the normal game but if I did a 1939 version with minor powers including the Pro ally neutrals, Iran comes into play (and I think actually by 1940 they were Iran).  At any rate I completely agree FMG should offer both kinds.

      @knp7765:

      @GoSanchez6:

      Since Fmg is doing the elite black german dice I wonder if there will be other second colours coming for other countries . Olive die for USA, Mustard yellow for Japan with mustard pieces, Italy white or light green. Just a thought.

      Why do you want white for Italy?  White is neutral color.  Now, I have seen some people use a light green for Italy, namely that guy who has a thread on repairing the “B” turret on the FMG Italian Battleship.
      I really doubt we will see a mustard color for Japan (although I really like the idea).  The OOB pieces and FMG combat dice are that burnt orange color so I would imagine the FMG Japan sets will be too.
      FMG is making their USA sets in the dark green color like their USA combat dice.  There was some talk a while back that FMG might offer the USA combat units in Olive as well to match OOB.  Don’t know if they will bother with making Olive combat dice for USA or not.  Would be pretty cool looking, and one more thing for me to buy (like I don’t have enough already).

      I would LOVE the following supplemental dice from FMG:

      • Olive Green US combat dice instead of dark green (to match OOB olive)

      • Italy dice with the correct Italian roundel as opposed to the Iranian one from OOB

      • UK dice with the SEAC blue/blue roundel for India

      • Red dice with communist Chinese roundel from HBG

      As it is, I’m buying dark green US pieces to match the FMG dark green (OK I suppose, but just prefer olive - that’s all).  There are none of the other dice yet, and these would all be sweet (ESPECIALLY the SEAC/India dice)!

      STOKED about Canada, ANZAC, & France as it is!

    • RE: Next FMG SET

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      In regards to JAPAN / CHINA etc….

      I would like to complete the sets for Europe FIRST, so people can start to make complete games / variants etc…

      We also want them done so people can expand on the great Maps HBG has been coming out with.

      In addition, once production is running smoothly, we want to co-ordinate sets with HBG and release like sets.

      Makes sense.  I do like the idea of different infantry only sculpts (two for each country) for Canada & ANZAC while maybe keeping all others same as UK - simple but still unique and true - whenever the time comes!!! :)

      @knp7765:

      Didn’t know you reset the poll.  I voted again and still chose France.  Even though I am very curious to see what units FMG will come up with for Japan and Russia, I still really want to see France get their own equipment.  Also curious to see how close FMG’s French blue comes to the OOB color.

      Hey DFWSupertrooper,
      I would like to see the Katyusha rockets too, but I don’t think they would fit as an armor piece.  Plus, Russia has so many tanks to choose from.  Katyusha Rockets are more of an artillery piece, but not sure if FMG would want to make it their artillery piece.  Perhaps this one should be left to HBG as a mobile artillery piece in his Russian supplement set.

      Yeah, good point…as long as we get them I’ll buy them from whoever!! :)

      I voted for Russia after UK. I just want to see that armor for Russia. Artillery piece with the tracks on it. Russians in winter garb and the Zhukov piece. Count me in.

      Their second armor piece should be Katyusha rockets!  Those would be SWEET!

      This should be the background music for FMG’s upcoming youtube introduction to their newest German set:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7w17MamPY7A

      Wagner’s Prelude 1 to Act I of Parsifal!!!   Skip to 05:23 and you will hear the thunderous entrance of the Panzers as they are ushered in to the accompaniment of French horns and other brass: Priceless!

      Nice!  But I vote for the Koeniggraetzer March!  One of the most popular German war marches ever and one of Hitler’s favorites, although it existed prior to the Nazis.  It’s the one that was playing on Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade during the Nazi book burning rally!  Awesome march…

    • RE: Scaling of FMG & HBG Pieces - Please Vote!

      @reloader-1:

      Disagree completely. As of now, FMG has great pieces, and so does HBG. Only a few are badly sized, such as infantry or the absolutely huge truck.

      The good news is that HBG will most likely produce a truck for Italy that is proper sized, so we will have a usable piece. It would be a shame for future sets to keep making Godzilla sized truck and elven infantry just for the sake of consistency. As it stands, if FMG changes his scale all he really has that is out of scale is the infantry, truck, and possibly armored car.

      I have yet to see one person like the scale of the truck, militaryman being the exception and I don’t think even he likes it. What is the point of continuing something that the market strongly dislikes?

      Also, I think that HBG’s Axis Minor soldier is in perfect scale with OOB units. His Marines are big, and FMG’s are small.

      OK, look, all I’m saying is…you’re singular beef with FMG pieces seems to really be the truck - and I can’t argue with that - it’s a lot bigger than the other pieces - not as much an overall scale philosophy issue as a simple fluke/error with one piece/sculpt.  As you mentioned, one can easily substitute the HBG Opel if they prefer (about the same size as the other FMG/HBG vehicles and both common).

      But, c’mon…no one can argue that the FMG infantry don’t look slightly superior in quality (regardless of any size differences - they’re just cleanly made and not as “bulky” as the HBG ones appear.  HBG ones are great, no doubt.

      On MY game board anyway, the pieces all being small, detailed, and clean is most important - these aren’t intended to be scaled miniatures for displaying stuff or setting up massive battlefields with hex table maps - they have to fit in a relatively tiny space sometimes - so IMHO the size guides FMG chose are perfectly fine.

      As I said before, I intend to fully dump my OOB pieces back into a box and use FMG/HBG and only a couple of IMO WW2 classics, so I don’t give a hang about the fact that HBG measures up to OOB infantry - OOB infantry are dead to me (haha).  So, I have to choose FMG vs HBG and clear winner in my book is FMG.

      Again, we all have our opinions, and I certainly don’t mean you have to do it like me - but as knp & I both agree (and I think others), what’s done is done to some extent and I’d rather have all the FMG future pieces match up with the ones already done - Italian truck consider a fluke that they can avoid going forward certainly.  Their infantry should match their Italian infantry IMHO.  And their fighters should match their other fighters, etc, etc…

    • RE: Scaling of FMG & HBG Pieces - Please Vote!

      @reloader-1:

      Please vote! I know that FMG’s German set is probably in molding by now, but we still have time to change future sets.

      This is your chance to be heard if you don’t like the size of the FMG truck, or think HBG’s pieces should match the FMG scale.

      No offense, but I don’t like the idea of changing future sets when some are already done - you’d only create MORE inconsistency among the product.  If inconsistency is what you’re trying to avoid, let’s just leave well enough alone.

      The only issues I really care about personally are the fact that the infantry are different (HBGs are VERY large compared to OOB & FMG).  Makes it where as much as I like the HBG sculpts I’m abandoning them (infantry only) and the OOB - FMG is my new standard; HBG equipment & a few OOB equipment pieces supplement (Example: I cannot imagine the US without B-17s or Germany without Ju-88s).  The equipment pieces all look great together - whether or not they’re “actual” scale to each other matters not as much as appearance and play-ability to me.  HBG’s Axis Minor fighters are practically identical to FMG’s Italian fighter in size.

      As far as quality, both equipment sets are equally absolutely brilliant - infantry I give slight edge to FMG because the pieces look a bit cleaner cut.

      My vote is to be thankful for what we’ve been given out there and if people still aren’t satisfied at least they’re a Hell of a lot better off than we were months ago and years ago.  I’ll wait until these guys are making profit before I go howling about what they should do differently.

      Just my thoughts - nothing personal.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

      I got my Italians yesterday and I have to say - gorgeous!  Haven’t done a complete count yet but the only thing I look “short” on is only 4 cruisers, but I can pick up a couple from HBG so no worries!  The quality is spectacular and the color is perfect.  Bye-bye OOB pieces!  GREAT work, Jeremy & the FMG gang! :-D

      Can’t wait to hand paint these suckers.

      The ONLY thing I notice is that the infantry pieces are much leaner and more detailed than any others, making them slightly thinner than HBG & OOB pieces - not a quality issue by any stretch, just a difference in sculpts that I wish didn’t exist but not FMG’s fault - these are absolutely beautiful!

      Does everyone have their Italians yet? I pre-ordered and still don’t have them. I know that FMG said they would ship last Monday at least that is what I thought he said. I live in Missouri so it is not like I live in a remote place.Just curious anybody else not have theirs?

      Nope and I haven’t received any shipping info either.  I thought he said they shipped from China though - en route to HIM not us yet.  At least that’s what I had in my head.

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      @RedArmySoldier:

      Is this still the unit count we can expect to get per set of 150?

      4 Infantry (Two Sculpts - Rifle and sub-machinegun Infantry)
      12 Artillery
      12 Armour (Two Types - Light and Heavy)
      12 Fighters
      6 Tactical-bombers
      6 Bombers
      12 Submarines
      12 Destroyers
      6 Cruisers
      6 Battleships
      6 Aircraft Carriers
      6 Transports
      12 Half tracks (Armored Cars)
      6 Commander Units
      6 Transport Planes
      6 Trucks

      Almost.  Considering the MILLIONS of little men produced, there is always a possibility that in the sorting phase there may be some flux.  Due to this I changed the site description to the following:

      Each National Set includes the following:

      Infantry (Two Sculpts - Rifle and sub-machinegun Infantry)
      Artillery
      Armour (Two Types - Light and Heavy)
      Fighters
      Tactical-bombers
      Bombers
      Submarines
      Destroyers
      Cruisers
      Battleships
      Aircraft Carriers
      Transports
      Half tracks (Armored Cars)
      NEW
      Commander Units
      Transport Planes
      Trucks

      Each National set will include 150 UNITS!!

      (Due to the large QTY of units included, actual quantity of each unit may vary)

      So Jeremy, just out of curiosity, how many sets did you actually order be produced?

      Don’t worry guys, I’m sure Jeremy has your orders ready to go as soon as the Italians get here.  I had him check on my order which I made WAY, WAY, WAY back in last November and he assured me it was ready to go.  Just waiting on the shipment is all.  So if my order, made long, long ago, is still active, surely your orders are also on file.

      I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I got a LOT of stuff comin’ to me this week.  There is my order for Italian Combat Units, two different orders of new Combat Dice (including those sharp black German dice), and I have an order for the complete War At Sea:  Surface Action set from Gaming Advantage which is shipping this week.  Man, what a week.

      Sweet!  Yeah, I’ve got two sets of Italians & all the new Elite dice!  Also waiting on HBG’s Minor Axis (2 sets) at some point soon…WOOHOO!

      They will be done in the same scale as AAA units.

      If same scale as A&A board game (NOT A&A Miniatures), then I’d probably buy at least one set.  Never could get a straight answer before and I’m in the same boat - all my moola is going into the board games! :)

    • RE: A REQUEST FOR HBG

      @Tall:

      Yes,

      OOB Grey is the ONLY color that we NEED.

      I fully intend on painting and decalling mine for the individual countries.  But to request these units to be produced in country-specific colors would be COMPLETELY WASTEFUL of precious capital needed to produce other units, too.  It would multiply the cost of production by 9 or 10 times the cost of producing them in only the Grey color.

      Personally,…I would much rather have this very important “Bases, Facilities, and Fortifications Set” produced in a generic Grey and put any other monies into MORE COMBAT UNITS.  Think about it.

      “Tall Paul”

      Completely agreed - anything that changes sides as its captured should be a generic color anyway IMHO.  Plus as you said, it speeds up production and limits the cost - cheaper and faster for us!
