      @Cow:

      wow allies are decentralized enough as it is to have canada lol.

      In my house rules, all Commonwealth units may act in complete coordination (removing the decentralization except for industrial reasons).  In my mind, that historically makes sense.  German U-Boats made getting raw materials from Canada into the UK virtually impossible.  Now Canada can produce DDs and transports and materiel slowly and move it over under escort and US assist once the US is active.

      You can easily add Canada using HBG’s Canadian roundel tokens and either some painted British pieces or eventually HBG & FMG’s Canadian pieces.  FMG even makes Canadian dice now too.

      I’ve added Canada and played it that way (taking the 8 IPCs from UK) and it makes things a bit interesting sometimes.  Play them right after the UK & SEAC/India in order.

      Personally, any other new country would be great, and I know they’re all eventually coming, but I’d prefer either UK/Canada or ANZAC/SEAC next.

      @Young:

      So there is no intellectual property patent for the Axis and Allies franchise? I find that hard to believe.

      There is…it just doesn’t cover stuff they didn’t “invent,” and/or stuff that can be determined to be commonly available, widely used, or stuff that existed prior to them inhabiting the Earth. :)

      Terms such as Air Force and Infantry and Sea Zone and dice are completely unprotected because WOTC doesn’t own them.  The term IPC or Industrial Production Certificate they DID invent.

      That’s my take on it anyway.  I’m no attorney but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! :-D

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      Sorry I have been away…  FMG is moving locations!

      The factory set the 19th as their completion date…  As per usual…  they are not done yet!!!

      I will post more info here when I get it.

      Thanks

      Jeremy

      Thank you sir!  Moving’s a BEE-YATCH!

      If Hell is what someone’s worst fears and frustrations are, mine would be driving in stand-still traffic in 100 & stupid degree and 78% Houston humidity on the way to WAL-MART, so I can pick up something to help me MOVE from a three story apartment complex while I wait on the mortgage company to finish my damn loan paperwork which they’re over a WEEK past scheduled closing…oh wait, that was last June!

      Hahaha!  Good luck brother - I anxiously await your return.

      @Hobbes:

      @Cow:

      HMMM. They have copyright over alpha stuff?

      There’s something VERY important to remember about copyright and trademarks - it doesn’t apply to ideas, only to their practical applications.

      See, the whole concept and logic behind Alpha +3 is nothing more than a mental process and you can’t make a claim to that. What WOTC has a claim to is to specific elements of the Axis and Allies universe, like terminology (the Axis and Allies name, I.P.Cs, Industrial Complex, etc.) due to owing the trademark, and to any written/graphic materials they produce.

      So, what does this means? That if someone makes a completely new document that describes the Alpha 3 changes but without using any Axis and Allies terminology, images or original text (anything published at LH site or released by WOTC) then WOTC can’t do anything about it.

      And the proof to what i’m saying? Look at TripleA. What I described above was what they did when WOTC send them a ‘cease and desist’ letter to shut them down due to copyright/trademark violations a couple of years ago.

      Also, trademark does not extend to generic/common terms like geography or infantry/fighter/etc.

      I think this is right…AND I also would think that the “generic/common” use also includes images that are not “owned” by WOTC.  For example, the Air Force roundels being used for markers - those are simply reproductions of widely used images by various governments around the world - they don’t “own” those images.  Having said that, if they used a new creation for their symbols, maybe that’s verboten??  Their logo…sure.  The term “IPC’s”…sure.  The terms “Aircraft” or “Tank” or “Armor”…NO WAY!

      @Lozmoid:

      Russians in 4 weeks, German set after that, Japanese after that……

      Coach, are you referreing to the FMG German units or are you designing your own set?

      Thanks.

      I think he’s talking about his own German Set #2 - being produced right after the Ruskies.  FMG’s ought to be out soon coincidentally (Jeremy gave a May 19th planned release date…but we’ll see I suppose).

      We know the paratroopers are coming!  It’s not a question of IF…it’s just WHEN.  God knows we’ve waited long enough to get what we have so a few months more for some paratroopers isn’t gonna kill me anyway.  I wouldn’t go through the effort of hand-painting differently if I were you (of course your choice but…), I’d just wait, use a token or something temporarily, and then eventually we’ll get them.  There’s just no way HBG can make everyone happy on all releases but I promise they’ll deliver eventually. :)

      Thank GOD for HBG and FMG too.

      @FieldMarshalGames:

      USA is stopped just short of the mould.  To be honest…  the GERMANY and DICE fiasco with this factory has set us back financialy.   We were unable or willing to send MORE money to this factory when these two projects were still outstanding.

      I am very sure sales of GERMANY will solve the money issue, and the NEW factory will be able to complete USA in record time considering we already have all the sculpts.

      Nice.  Thanks for seeing all this through.  God Speed my friend!

    • RE: Idea for "strict neutrals" rule change

      I agree the standard penalty is too stiff - what I do is start everyone in the game off with a “World Trade Bonus” of 3 IPCs every turn (except China - to represent trade with neutral countries everywhere - all minor nations obviously).

      If a power invades any neutral country, they lose forever this bonus (to represent the decision on the part of other neutral countries to discontinue trade with an aggressor).

      Seems to work pretty well.  But I also like Jercules’ buyoff idea - makes logical sense they might have that option/ability.

      @Imperious:

      I got those, Im talking about specific units that fought on all sides. Perhaps it could be like:

      6th Army (Paulus)
      3rd Army ( Patton)

      and those new cards could apply or effect just the armies listed on the card or commanders

      Definitely want to see these!

      @coachofmany:

      @Lunarwolf:

      i thought you were going to match up with FMGs Canadians color.

      This is a new wrinkle from FMG, I need to decide what is best for HBG, I have had a Canadian color that I paint for people well over a year and I cannot keep changing colors, it is not fair to my customers and is expensive for me. I will look into it as I approach that mold.

      I definitely agree that FMG’s dice colors should be matched as much as possible.  Your painted units (no offense) are just that…painted…and can (I would think) be more easily matched/redone for future use.  I would think your clientele is also all FMG’s clientele and would appreciate and understand the need in this.

      And I’m not in any way detracting from your quality by saying “painted”…they’re AWESOME!  Just that they’re not “molded” that color so relatively easy to re-do.  Both you and FMG are incredible assets to the community and both produce EXTREME QUALITY!

    • RE: United States Set from Historical Board Gaming!

      Absolutely beautiful units.  All the equipment is certainly now a part of my game, and now you’re swaying me on the infantry as well…love the variety of sculpts.  I once thought I was going to keep only FMG infantry since they look great and offer two sculpts per country (and I want all of mine to be the same scale), but if I use the OOB infantry, sand down the base to the same thickness as yours, then I have a LOT more infantry to use.  As much as I love FMG’s, I may have to stick to OOB & HBG combined instead, and just use the FMG equipment.

      God, capitalism is a double-edged sword…choice means having to make some tough decisions sometimes - hahaha!  But thankful to have it!

      You guys BOTH make awesome pieces!
