RE: Shippingposted in House Rules
@Imperious:
Yes yes quite right, but if you want people in the ocean you just lower the cost of naval units so they will buy them, and add rules regarding modeling submarine warfare where the subs can attack IPC of nations.
What i saw was one problem that was related to the “double income collection problem” and offered a solution that would seem less painful than the cure that proposed.
That is what I’m sugesting. I think all naval cost would have to be lowered and new sub rules implemented. No air only attacks sub detection etc. then subs would be able to target transports with raw materiels in them. You are right about the double income and I started playing that way after I got my copy of The War Game. I think a big aspect of the war was moving materiels and this would be a fun option.
another thing this does is eliminate the need for income tracking. and I also would agree that the cash would have to be dispersed once per round. I’m not sure if this is and advantage for any one player, I will have to think about it some more.

RE: Infantryposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
@Cmdr:
10 Infantry warrant 1 Fighter
7 Infantry warrant 1 Armor
12 Infantry warrant 1 Artillery
50 Infantry warrant 1 Bomber (Except when going the SBR campaign route where England and America focus heavily on bombers instead.)Likewise:
1 Carrier warrants 2 Fighters
1 Carrier warrants 9 Submarines
1 Carrier warrants 2 Transports (maybe 3)
2 Carriers (with 2 fighters each) warrant 1 Battleship
1 Carrier warrants 3 destroyers:roll:
Infantry Armor Artillery are best when bought economically there is no magic formula. If Russia has to defend 4 territories and make an offensive into two, the ratio of units is completely different than when Germany is defending in 1 and attacking 4.Where did the naval ratios come from? Who in their right mind buys 9 subs? With this logic the Japanese should build their nave up to Two BBs (they start with) 4 ACs (2 to Start) 36 Subs (1 to start) 8 transports (they usually start with 1 and 8 is not usually enough contrary to what Dick Van Patten says) and don’t forget the 12 destroyers…
You build a Navy for what you need it for.
I swear mathematicians will come up with a formula for anything… -

Next axis.
The axis is more complicated because there are so many more variables. If you are looking for a good KGF strategy then to start with Japan should utilize a plan similar to US/UK in my last post. Then at some point when you have too much money, build the IC. I find the best place to move troops into to begin with is Buratia (sp). From the east coast of Japan your transport options are great. You need at least 5 transports and I generally end up with more.Japan needs to push into Russia quickly and steadily. I generally try to take at least one or two Russian lands per turn, along with China. By the fourth turn you need to be threatening Moscow and if possible Caucuses.
Germany is simple. Sink transports when ever possible and push into Russia. If you aren’t threatening Moscow by turn four you’re in a lot of trouble. Don’t waste resources in Africa. Kill the fleet and take Egypt, but Africa is a distraction. If you manage to keep the German Med fleet past round 2 use it to attack Caucuses. Always attack Russian offensive units when the opportunity presents.
Experience will tell you what works from there.

RE: Massive losing streak.posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Doing well with the allies is relatively simple. The heavy bomber thing can work for you but it’s much easier if you keep it simple. Your number one objective is to get boots in Europe. To do this you need to optimize your builds so that you fill all your transports and you have enough transports for your troops. Look at the map and see how many transports you can load next turn and build to fill them. Then, build transports and men in equal proportion. This is the strategy for America and UK.
Russia is a bit more complicated. I generally start by building Infantry. Too conservative is better than too aggressive. I generally take west Russia back and try to kill the infantry in Ukraine. This is done by hitting for one round and pulling out. Then see what Germany does and how successful his first round is. If Germany goes aggressive and gets some bad dice, it may be time to put some heavy pressure on him. If he does well, you’ll have to try to hold him back for 2 or 3 turns until the other allies can start hitting land.

RE: Tanksposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I tend to run independent tank stacks directly behind the front. I have no Idea what ratio but I would guess 5 inf per tank. I am sure you could come up with the perfect mathematical ratio, but I tend to be more of a seat of the pants strategist. I play for fun not to crunch numbers. I love hearing “holy crap I can’t believe that worked.” The key is knowing when to pull out on a failed maneuver.

@Cmdr:
Wow, that’s 3 times as valuable as my star wars site and the star wars site’s been around since 96 with well over 300 active members!
Congrats Yanny!
:? Why Yanny, David Jensen owns the site, Yanny’s just been here longest, lol, I remember when yanny was a 14 y/o kid that posted here when he was at computer lab at his High school. They grow up so fast…

RE: Interesting WWII factsposted in World War II History
well considering the fact that only 1 prototype ever made it into the air it’s kind of a moot point. That prototype was destroyed in 1944 on the ground just like the first two(before they flew).
So technicaly they didn’t have a bomber that could reach NY… :wink:

RE: Gleemaxposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I played a 5 player game on Gleemax last night, not bad, some good guys some inexperience, but it was fun.

RE: Shippingposted in House Rules
Well considering that a transport in revised can carry as much as 8 IPC worth of "prcessed materiel I would say a transport should be able to carry at least that if not more…
I don’t see why you couldn’t come up with a rule for captuing materiel, that’s how it works on land, and I supose materiel was captured in the war, I would say unescorted transports should have a chance of capturing a portion of the materiel.

RE: Gleemaxposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Better than tripleA?
I’ve played tripleA with friends, is there a site to get pick-up games? That’s what I like about the gleemax set-up, like I said it reminds me of the Zone on MSN.
