    • RE: Introduce or Re-Introduce Yourself (Nov. 2018)

      I’m William “Red” Cook. I live in Scottsdale Az, a suburb of Phoenix. I played my first Axis and Allies game in 1986, back when there was only one version. I had a group of friends that played through high school then the group eventually faded away during college.

      Around 2000 or 2001 i started working in an office and had internet access from my desk. When I got bored I would search random things. Thats how I discovered that there was an online community for Axis and Allies. I jioned this site aswell as others, and i used the games locator forum to build a local group again. We played the original then World at War, then made house rules. We picked up other games as they came out and eventually I would have 8 to 10 people show up for game nights playing 2 games at once. I even got into miniatures for a while.

      Once again guys moved away and I had interruptions visiting foreign countries courtesy of the US Army. I played Europe in Baghdad, D-day in Kuwait, Pacific in Jalalabad and 1942 at a place called Torkham at the Afghan border in the Khyber pass.

      Now I occasionally get some guys together and play a modified version of The War Game.

      I just realized, that as of about two weeks ago it’s been ten years since I first registered on this site… First off I feel old and second I need to play more, these damn wars have really screwed up my hobbies…

      Congrats on your 10 years!  My 10 years comes up in Sept.
      Other than Djensen, you’re the longest active member.  Well, unless Yanny shows up.   :-D

      Yeah, I didn’t check but if memory serves Yanny joined a couple weeks before me, he was a 14 yo kid lol

      I got my game today, I hope to give it a test run in a few days.  I ordered it from Amazon and ordered 100 white and 50 red chips on the side based on what I read.  When I opened the box I was glad I did.  I have a plotter, so I think I may DL and print a bigger map too.

      That jalapeno cheddar burger is pretty good…  Best burger I ever had I think was a hardees double cheese burger, I found a Hardees while exploring The small FOBs around FOB Victory in Iraq, I hadn’t had real fast food in 8 months, it was awesome, then they tore it down a month later…

      I ordered 1942 off of amazon, I havn’t had a chance to play it, and whatever I get may end up staying here so I didn’t want to spend too much.  Now I just have to convince these guys to sit down to a game for 5 hours or so with no beer…

      @Stalingradski:

      By Crom, what was I thinking? Every Conan book ever written, with Robert E. Howard’s originals being the best by far, of course.

      I used to play the Original A&A with a guy named Conan, I thought that his parents must have been awesome…  His screen name was/is IntocableX (Spanish for untouchable with an X for menace LOL)

      @cminke:

      why did you choose to join the army?

      I believe that we should all make a contribution to our society, some people become doctors and work on cures for diseases, some people become firemen and save people’s lives, I stand ready to travel to foreign lands and fight those who are determined to be enemies to my country…

      Nah… I like blowin’ sh!t up!

      Asmov is one of my favorites the foundation series is a good read, I read the trilogy in 4 days…

      I read lord of the rings nearly thrity years ago and have read it twice since.
