      Good to see that you are still around Krieghund.  Keeping the fire burning still.
      I’m actually really excited with some of the new changes for this version of the game.  
      I have almost all of the games except for AAG but rarely have the time to play them.  With my kids getting a bit older I now have some built-in game partners.  I’ve actually been able to play Flames of War and some other miniatures games with my 7 year old.  He is very close to being able to play the “big” games soon…   :-D

      Actually it is the 50th Anniversary of Avalon Hill.  You will just depress Larry by making him feel old by chalking it up to him.   :wink:

      I’m actually not sure why there needs to be a designation for the 41 and 42 starting setup either.  Unless you are giving an AAR or want to play a game and need to specify which setup to use it is just unneccessary.  Although its very cool that there is now a 41 setup which appears to be the default since it says so right on the top front of the box.   :-D

      So why is the 50 being used again?  I actually had to go dig up the original release date of the game just to make sure I wasn’t going insane or possibly entered some sort of time warp.  :-o

      So AA50 really makes no sense to me at all.  The number 50 is referring to the 50th anniversary of “Avalon Hill” and really nothing to do with Axis & Allies. 
      Why not just use AAAE?  That is the actual abbreviation after all.

      Hey IL,

      The reason why no one had the vector file is because I never gave it to anyone.  The file I have is just the territories with names.  I never really got any of the details completed. 
      I think this global war variant map had some circle territories for cities which were added afterwards.  Plus all of the shoreline stuff was added to the jpg file and is not in the vector ai file.

      So my only problem is now that I cannot find my CS2 disk.  :?
      I just moved recently and have been scrounging through a bunch of boxes and can’t seem to find it.  Let me get this dug up so I can open the files I have to find a most current version.
      The file will be around 75 meg so I’ll also check into using a file sharing site.

      Ah, so I read back a couple of pages and it looks like a vector file would come in handy.  I always seem to sense these things after months or years I just happen to get an urge to check one of these forums.  8-)
      Let me see what I’ve got and I can probably send something to Imperious Leader.  I remember Aaron having you over to his house in Dallas a few times but I never got a chance to meet you.  I’m sure it would be in good hands with you.  I believe I have it in an Illustrator CS format but I might be able to save it to another version.  Actually I’ll need to dig up my Illustrator install since I don’t even have it loaded on my current laptop.
      I would get a kick out of seeing this monster get some sort of completion.

      I still have the original vector map illustrator file too.
      I’ve actually seen a few versions of this floating around now.  This one looks very nice.  I didn’t get a chance yet to go through the 45 pages of this thread.  Is there a recent link to the most updated map?
      It’s cool to see this one getting some use.  I’ve become such a 15mm Flames of War junkie that I just never get around to doing anything with my old A&A maps anymore.  :roll:

      If you guys want to playtest this with Mapview I can still make modules.  :-D

      Just thought I could throw in a good resource.  Mapview uses XML files to generate a user customizable file to make modules.  Mot has used a Visual basic program to create a compiler.  You make your xml text and drag the file onto the compiler.  Works quite well actually and I’ve made a bunch of modules.  Mot has been kinda out of the scene since having a kid.  I guess I have been too.  He might be a good source of ideas or info so you might check on www.motcreations.com

      Hey Positronica,

      You really did a great job on the map details.  Paragon was asking about getting ahold of the original vector map and I mentioned that maybe you would like a copy to layer in your additions to make for a better quality print.  jpg’s are always kinda messy looking.  Especially for something this big.  The vectors are very crisp.
      In addition I can convert your map into a Mapview PBEM module if you want.  I have all of the other games already made along with vector maps too.
      If you haven’t used Mapview before I can get you some more details.  Plus I’m sure there are a few others around here who use this program.

      Hey cool, looks like my Supreme Command map is getting some good use.  :-D
      I like the added background images.  Looks nice.
      I actually have the original map done in vector graphics using paint shop pro.  Every territory is actually made up of many individual vector points.  Was a pain in the butt to make, but produced a nice smooth result.  I’ll have to get back into this stuff eventually.  I just don’t have the extended time to try testing a game of this scale right now.  With young kids my gaming is reduced to much shorter games.  Lots of fast play miniatures type games.  I’ve gotten pretty good and painting up 6 and 15mm figs.

      I have a link to a bunch of pics that a guy took who printed out the map and ran some games with it.  I’ll have to post a link to it.  It’s pretty impressive when you see it laid out on a table with all the pieces on it.  :-o

      Here is a more recent map.  It is still in the process of changes so you can come back now and then to check.

      (This is another Word document so you’ll need either Word or a Word viewer to see it.)

      We have a German first turn surprise attack that must be used for this setup.  Basically the Russians do not get to fire back for the first round of combat in each space where there is combat in the four territories bordering Europe.  Karelia and Vyborg are not included for this.

      The anchors were for ports but we haven’t really made any solid rules for them yet.

      I believe this is the first time anyone has suggested Brazil or Cuba.  May have to think about this.  Or check out the Advanced A&A world map that I’ve started that is also being discussed at the AAEuropeMC.

      I think that everyone was in agreement to expand out North Africa.  The country-colors haven’t been added yet though but the spaces are there.

      I’m not sure about adding anymore to the rest of Europe.  It will probably need to be done if I make a 1939 map but otherwise it would get things too crowded in an area that doesn’t see much action.

      If anyone wants to read more of the details of the maps progression use the link at the top of this thread and there is about 250 posts that go through the whole process from the start.

    • Advanced A&A Europe Mapboard

      This mapboard modification has been kicked around on some other boards for a while.  Thought I’d post a link here to see what everyone thought.

      This modified map changes a lot of things I thought were missing in the original AAE mapboard.  The main thing that needed changing was the limited spaces in Russia.  Then things just kinda took off from there.

      I’ve played this map a few times with different variants as its progressed and it definately makes the game a lot more challenging.

      There are also some setups and rules and a 3 meg bitmap which works well when printed out to a plotter.   These are all linked in the thread at AAEuropeMC message board above.

      Feel free to use this map in anyway desired.  I have no interest in making money or distributing copies, and I believe that there are probably copyright infringments that would prevent me from doing so anyway.

      You’ll probably need lots of extra pieces but I imagine that everyone has a copy of the original A&A.  If not then finding extra pieces is very difficult now that Avalon Hill has passed the game to Wizards of the Coast.

      If anyone prints it out and plays a game let me know what you think.
