    • RE: Expert Rules Set v1.0

      @dezrtfish:

      There are concepts that would be nice to add realism.  I may add some of these in a bit at a time as my group gets more experience.

      I plan to as well, I’m just cautious about changing or adding mechanics in the game since they can have unforseen circumstances.

      For example using the Enfilade rules I can run a jeep up, transporting an infantry adjacent to an enemy soldier. My M4A3 (105) should easily be able to get in the rear arc since it will be nearly 180 degrees, and the Jeep is generally fast enough to circle at least partially around. If I won initiative I can simply leave the soldier in the Jeep; the M4A3 (105) fires and should easily splatter any soldier in the game, and the jeep simply drives off before my opponent can respond. If I lose initiative I either just don’t do it and wait until I do, or simply dismount the infantry first. I can even put my Sherman on overwatch in case the infantry tries to escape, and with no limits on disruption he’s going nowhere.

      Using Enfilade and the new plane rules, aircraft can become equally as disgusting, shooting with ~7 dice at +3 from medium range, and barely anything can hurt them back except dedicated AA.

      Now perhaps this rules are as they should be historically, but for game play they may potentially unbalance things. Also that’s only looking at the bad side of things; the good side is platoons and enfilade promote the use of the ‘lesser’ infantry.

      I will have to try a few games out with them before making any decision though, and overall I do at least like the idea of them.

      The Japanese are able to field the Shokaku and her sister ship the Zuikaku.

      There’s some good stuff in there…

      A lot of the general ideas are nice, but easily abused. Still it has potential.

    • RE: Chatting on the Radio

      Chatting on the Radio does not prevent a unit from being transported, nor does being transported have any affect on the ability.

      With a vehicle defence of only 2/2, an MG42 on a Halftrack is very expensive for a very vulnerable unit. All it takes is one hit from even a mediocre unit and you lose it all. It can be useful if there’s nothing around to hurt it… but that isn’t often.

    • RE: Build limits

      I’m afraid I won’t actually be much help on this issue. We don’t use any standard rules for unit limits in my group; we use my historic formations. I seem to recall that a while back we came up with something like 15 units at 100 and an extra 5 (10?) units per 100 points. Sorry I can’t recall exactly what it was, though I’m fairly sure it was 5; simply so you don’t have the battllefield littered with infantry that make the game drag on forever.

    • RE: Battlefield awareness

      I’ve always likened the ability to a shield; it can be used both offensively and defencively. Though most people these days tend to only think of shields as a defencive item.

      The general tactic is to rush up to your opponent’s tank on a turn you win initiative, and give them the option of staying there or moving and being hit with defencive-fire; the alternative being they get blasted at point blank range. It’s most effective when you catch your opponent out of cover, and even better if you can get your tank into fire. However it has a few drawbacks, and a poorly executed one can cost you your tank. You can alter this tactic to use the Aggressive Defence I described in my Tactics 103 article (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=ah/aam/ah20070202c).

      The other use of Battlefield Awareness is fairly passive; it simply prevents vehicles from getting around point blank to the weak rear. If you use a couple of these tanks they can cover a reasonable area and prevent enemy vehicles from attempting to simply slip around (your vehicles, a certain location, etc).

      Unfortunately the SS-Pz IV F2 is very prone to aerial attack, and battlefield awareness can be overwhelmed by sheer numbers (darn T-70s).

      @AgentOrange:

      The time, however, is quite involved.   :|

      An time = money, therefore the cost is too high  :wink:

      The terrain does look great, but then the models look a little out of place.I suppose they could be painted and such too, but I really don’t have that kind of time. If I ever did do it, it would probably just be for a display piece.

    • RE: Newbie needs suggestions on German/American armies

      If it’s “anything goes” then there’s far too many options. If you want to make balanced armies than try to have it so each army has an answer to the other; ie if one side has an aircraft, the other has AA (either an AA Gun or aircraft). Don’t have a King Tiger on one side and no AT on the other, etc etc.

    • RE: How to destroy a stuka with Russian

      You may want to consider using the Bofors AA Gun or Maxim MG (Kuomintang Machine-Gun); both of which the Russians used.

      Otherwise I would suggest Fanatical Snipers backed by a Commissar; it gives a range of 8 with nearly a 50% chance of scoring a hit.

    • RE: Axis & Allies Minis War at Sear Preview 1

      @djensen:

      I think a sideboard of units on each side could potentially accomplish this. You might be able use all of none of them depending on circumstances in the game. Maybe other circumstances allow your opponent to pick which units xor where the unit gets placed.

      Again another good and interesting point. I’m not personally a fan of sideboarding, but it could be useful in AAM Tournaments.

      WAS has made much more of an effort to have players make balanced forces; only certain unit type are able to perform certain functions, etc.

      @djensen:

      What did you guys think of my commentary about War at Sea? Anybody else worried about the gameplay and possible lack of strategy? This could seriously end up being fun in the meta-game only.

      Not knowing how the game works, I’d say that it’s a valid assessment. I was extremely disappointed with SSB and it’s… extreme simplicity.

      I assure you though, WAS has more depth and strategy than that.

    • RE: Unit stats

      @BenitothePanzer:

      There is a software called “Battleplanner” just download, install, and then add the A&A patch, you will have all the stats, and haves a very helpful army builder, if you play another games like starwars or mechwarrrior, there are patches for each game

      http://www.battleplanner.com/

      Benito :mrgreen:

      I use that one for AAM, DDM, SWM, etc. It’s useful though often has many mistakes. Then again so do some of the other sites; at least battleplanner you can edit.

      The boxes were city hexes that don’t give the road bonus.

      Another player provided the blank maps, I think it was from the WotC Scenario Contest a while back.
