RE: My Axis & Allies 1942 Room…posted in Customizations
Here is the area around the Battle of the Atlantic - I marked the Straits with red auto pinstriping. The symbol in Zone 9 says “Linked Zone 10” This means if Zone 10 shuts down (by the Axis invading East USA) then zone 9 shuts down too. The symbol in zone 12 says “Linked East” meaning if the UK no longer has any holdings East of that zone, the zone shuts down. Â Normally a convoy zone shuts down if the land zone adjacent to or within it is invaded. Â

Japanese holdings. US subs devastated Japanese shipping historically so there are several Japanese convoys.

Flagshipsposted in House Rules
Hello all,
I made these flagships for my AA’42 game. My thinking is each country can only have one on the map and it is the pride of the fleet - and a great embarassment to have it sunk. I would like to make them slightly more powerful than a regular BB and cost a little more.

My thoughts were:
Cost: 26
Takes three hits to sink instead of two. On the battleboard, a chip could be put under the FS to represent the first hit. This first hit would “bounce off” with no lasting damage - just remove the chip. The second hit you would turn the ship on its side and have to repair it - the third hit would sink it.What do you think? Does that sound right or not?

Here are the basic symbols - I left the numbers off so you can add your own. I left a blank too if you want to add Italy or something later.

Yes and I’m realizing I’ve been playing this game totally wrong for years! Thanks. :|

RE: Mediteranean Amphibious Assault questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Got it -thanks! So then can I legally attack the DD with just my BB and transport, sink it, and use my land based planes that weren’t used there to help in the amphibious assault?

Hi IL - The convoy symbols are actually stickers I made in Photo Express and printed off - I don’t have the software to modify the map itself.
I’m still testing the system - if it doesn’t work well the stickers can be peeled off without hurting the map. The numbers on the symbols represent the maximum economic damage that can be done in the zone. I’ll get more pics up…

Mediteranean Amphibious Assault questionposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I have an AA42 map. Say I am Germany and my opponent has a lone DD in SZ15 guarding Anglo-egypt Sudan.
Can I take out the DD with my land based planes first and then move my BB and transport in for the invasion? If not please explain… -
Surprise Strikeposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
I don’t get this from the manual, P.16:
"Each attacking submarine conducting a Surprise Strike
attack rolls one die. After the attacking player has rolled for
all attacking submarines, the defender chooses one sea unit
for each hit scored and moves it behind the casualty strip. Then each defending submarine conducting a Surprise
Strike attack rolls one die. Defending submarines that roll a
“1†score a hit. After the defending player has rolled for all
defending submarines, the attacker chooses one sea unit for
each hit scored and removes it from play."So if attacked with subs (Surprise Strike) the defender gets to move his units behind the casualty strip, thus allowing him to fire back once? But if the defending sub hits during Surprise Strike, the attacker must remove something before it even gets a chance to fire. I don’t get this. The attacking sub has no advantage at all then in a Surprise Strike, since subs attack at “2” and fire first anyway on the battlestrip.

RE: Amphibious Assault questionposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I guess I get it but don’t like it. :x
What about the loaded transports - can they be held back or are they forced participate in the sea battle before offloading?

Amphibious Assault questionposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
I don’t get this rule:
Amphibious assaults: “If sea combat occurs, all attacking and defending sea units
must participate in the battle.”So if I’m going to try to take an island, and Japan has ONE destroyer sitting in the adjoining seazone, this means I have to use all my US carriers, CAs and BBs - everything I’ve got, to clear out the one destroyer? I can’t save back one BB or CA in another zone to bombard the island? What’s the rationale for that?

Blitzing questionposted in Axis & Allies Spring 1942 Edition
As Japan I have just taken over China from Kwangtung. Can I now blitz through my new China territory with the stack of unused tanks I have in reserve in Kwangtung and take over Sinkiang or do I have to wait a turn?

RE: Destroyer questionsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Thanks for the clear answers - I’ve played the classic version of this game for years and am having a hard time adjusting to some of this - now say Germany has 4 subs in a seazone adjoining Great Britain. GB places five destroyers in the same zone during his “place new units” phase. On Germany’s next move, does he have to combat the destroyers since they are in the same zone or can he move the subs out of the zone to evade?
-
RE: Destroyer questionsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
OK thanks - now if a sub ends its combat move in a seazone with an enemy carrier but no enemy destroyer, does combat have to happen or can the sub just choose to stay there?
-
Destroyer questionsposted in Axis & Allies Pacific 1940
Can a destroyer move through a zone containing an enemy submarine or end its move in the same zone as an enemy submarine during the non-combat move phase?

For use with Arms Research: Copy Cardsposted in House Rules
This is based on the assumption that if one nation gets an arms breakthrough, the odds are that it will be easier for other nations will get it too, by copying it. Â
We have done this before - at the start of the game pass out a “copy” card to each player.
Say your opponent gets something really good like heavy bombers, or the Atomic Bomb or some house rule thing that could wreck you. Roll for an arms breakthrough as normal. If you get a six, instead of rolling for which random breakthrough you get, you now have the option of playing your “copy” card and copying something that is already on the board.
This helps keep the game competitive and less luck driven. It also adds a bit of strategy. Do you want to use your card to copy those super subs now or hold onto it in case someone gets long range aircraft? Decisions, decisions…
For long lists of custom Arms Breakthroughs, pass out two cards each. Â Â
