      Heh heh - cool stories! Ice cream and lemon pie would raise the morale, although kind of sticky if it ended up on the game pieces….

    • DK's Progressive Arms Research system…

      Hey everybody - I’m pleased to announce that all the known kinks are finally out of my Progressive Arms Research system we’ve been game testing for three years - the whole thing is now for sale at Historical Board Gaming! You can adapt this system to work for any edition of Axis and Allies. You will get the full size professionally printed chart, complete rules, and copy cards.

      @CWO:

      @Hambone:

      Quick version of DK’s rule: cost 24 IPC, 3 hits to sink, 4a/4d/2m (normal) & only 1 flagship allowed on the board per nation at a time (2 British in photo for 1 UK & 1 UK PAC).

      I haven’t looked at the video explaining the rule, so perhaps I’m misinterpreting this post, but do I understand correctly that a flagship unit is a battleship that costs more than a normal one and is harder to sink than a normal one?  The reason I’m asking is that a “flagship” isn’t a type of vessel, it’s an administrative classification: it’s the ship aboard which a fleet commander or task force commander is located, and from which he exercises his command.  A flagship can be anything, though typically it’s a large vessel, and it can change during a battle.  At Midway, Admiral Jack Fletcher initially commanded his force from the carrier Yorktown, then transferred his flag to the cruiser Astoria when Yorktown was damaged; his counterpart, Admiral Nagumo, similarly transferred his flag from the carrier Akagi to the cruiser Nagara, if I remember correctly.

      The Flagships described in my video basically add a little game flavor and layer of strategy. The Flagship is just a fun unit which represents the “pride of your navy” - a battleship which has the highest morale, best armor and is harder to sink. These Flagships aren’t really meant to mimic history. (As is the case with a lot of standard AA rules!)

    • RE: HBG - Axis & Allies Parts/Accessories and Custom Piece Sets Store!

      @Erocco:

      For all the veteran HBG customers how often do they restock pieces? I placed a large order the other day to complete what  I need for Global War 1936 but most of the Japanese pumpkin orange pieces are out of stock. Also I like the dark grey German pieces and lot’s of those are also out of stock. I talked to the owner and (I think his name is Doug) and I couldn’t get a clear answer.

      Time to break out the spray paint!

      If I were you I would scan the tiles you want and then print them off on sticker paper from any Office store or Walmart. Then cut them out and stick them on your map. They’ll stay put and can also be removed if you change your mind.

      Welcome Zack - I use Microsoft Publisher for most of my charts, cards etc.

      I discovered Axis and Allies while living in Texas in the late 1980’s (Baytown, near Houston) though I was raised in St. Louis and now live in Illinois.

      WWII is such a broad and deep subject that it’s probably impossible to get the whole experience on one table top anyway - different versions help us experience different aspects of it…

      and it is almost certain that we will not be able to please 100% of the community…

      Set your mind at ease: there’s no need to be concerned about not being able to please 100% of the A&A community because there’s nothing suprising about such a situation.  The A&A community is large, diverse and opinionated, and I can’t recall anything about any A&A-related subject – other than perhaps the fact that A&A exists – which pleases everyone in the community.  Such differences of opinion are very much business-as-usual in this forum.  So you can relax about this point.

      Right - if we could all agree what map, rules, and start date to use we might actually become dangerous…:)

    • RE: MOVIES 2017

      @LHoffman:

      I will say that the scene you reference may not be what you think. I am not certain the direction they were trying to go with it, but I don’t feel as though it was meant to be, at least, primarily homosexual. There are a number of ways to look at it. It also wasn’t as gratuitous as you described.

      If that sways you at all. I am trying not to reveal anything that may be unknown prior to watching.

      Just as an update - based on your interpretation I went and saw Alien Covenant yesterday and - good grief - the scene I saw on the internet wasn’t even in the movie! Stupid internet! The actual movie scene was no big deal at all - and as you said - was left wide open for interpretation.

      What really ended up disappointing me was the over reliance on CGI effects which did not look convincing, combined with  some nonsensical scenes which did not match the original Ridley Scott masterpiece.

      For example (spoiler) - instead of the traditional snakelike chest burster coming out of a victim, an entirely developed obviously CGI mini-alien comes out? Huh? The little white aliens spawned from spores looked unconvincing and moved so fast I couldn’t follow the action.

      I liked the original slow moving alien much better - it moved as if it knew it was so bad-ass it didn’t need to be in a hurry.

      So does this mean I could invade London without transports if I had land units on Eire? Same with G40? It is all considered one space even though actually separated by water?

    • RE: DK's Hybrid Axis and Allies Map and Rules

      Hey all - Latest rules version 7.3 and setup cards 7.3 can be downloaded here:

      http://www.mediafire.com/?fke26796apo8p

      This link also includes a file of counters which symbolize units we use that you may not have. I’m proud to say this latest edition is actually shorter than 7.0. At a lean 19 pages long, it is even shorter than the original Axis and Allies manual from 1986, which has 32 pages. The more recent official Axis and Allies release (Global 1940) has 43 pages and Historical Board Gaming’s Global war 1936 has over 60 pages.

      Arms buildup has been removed in favor of setup that better reflects history, yet gives each player just enough freedom to make each setup unique. Other confusing or impractical rules were either scrapped or adjusted.

      What exactly are the rules for this chunk of land?

      It has no name - is it considered part of the UK and connected to the UK?
