      All correct except the facilities are damaged and not destroyed. 😉

    • RE: Best Players?

      @david-06
      I am talking about respect, friendship, loyalty, gentlemenship, responsibility and genuine fun. You always win if you play with players under these reciprocal conditions. Alas I had some experience with backstabbers who actually are the worst players ethically and biggest losers figuratively regardless of the number of victory conditions. My definition of best is not in quantity but in quality. That is why I have recently reduced the number of people I wish to play with in the future. After a hard lesson. To me the best player is not about who wins the most games. It is about who can manage to keep a group together by comradeship instead of split them up over personal gain. Who is genuinely interested in who you are and does not fake being interested just to use you. Maybe this clarifies more what I mean? Or am I just old-fashioned?

    • RE: Review of my first played Global War 1936 V. 3 game

      Your idea to give CCP 1 warlord land zone (not the whole warlord) is not unbalancing the game at all. It eliminates the possibility of CCP being whiped out by KMT early in the game, which was an actual possibility in the Chinese civil war. But it takes away the suspense if CCP is going to make it as a minor power eventually turning into a major power. If eliminated USSR has a lot more to do to try and get CCP back into the game. Feel free to house rule! I do it ALL the time!

    • RE: Slovakia Resistance?

      If Germany loses the first and only annexation attempt of Slovakia by Allied contestion, Germany can not try annexation again. The status of Slovakia would be a neutral power, since an annexation is not a declaration of war.
      If Germany would again enter units into Slovakia it would be considered a declaration of war on a neutral. Bohemia could still be annexed even after defeat in Slovakia.

    • RE: Two v3 rules questions

      ” Is there a limit to how many infantry units you can upgrade to motorized? I assume there isn’t since it’s not stated.”
      No limit. You may spend all your IPP on it having 1 minor factory with a supply path to the regular infantries. Such are the current rules (may 2021)
      Optional house rule: count motorized upgrades as using up production slots for factories.

      “If Russia and Germany sign the pact, can the Germans use the northern sea route to trace a lend-lease supply path? My hunch is they can’t, but I’m still curious”
      No, because it is not mentioned specifically or generally.
      Optional house rule: Let the USSR player decide on permission.

      @broken-mortar
      The best player to me is someone you can trust outside the game and distrust within the game. Alas some can not be trusted outside and inside the game. When you get rid of the latter sort of players, there are only best players left and they always win regardless of victory points.

    • RE: Is it best for Italy to stay Neutral?

      @david-06 said in Is it best for Italy to stay Neutral?:

      ” Explain. Militia already could move within the home country.”
      Was a bit late when I wrote it but that is correct.

      “If Italy doesn’t declare war, nations can’t attack them (except if you are commie).”
      Hence the exception I suggest.

      On you wish, Rome is literally 33 km from the coast. while there might be some accuracy to block it from SZ151,
      Like London Rome is not a coastal city. Making it an inland city gives the option to pass it by historically and offers a turn extra for Italy to protect its capitol and not have enemy naval power bombarding it.

      “in history, they went past rome and then into the Northern Italy.”
      Rome as an inland city would allow for this to happen. It could be surrounded but a strong Northern Italy would prevent that.

      We playtested this with a house rule version of the map. HBG might opt for an overlay like in Croatia at war. Might fit an Italy at war expansion as Chris proposed. But this is all just ideas for now.

    • RE: Is it best for Italy to stay Neutral?

      Try this:
      Italy and France (Free France) may keep fighting over Abyssinia even if both are still at peace. We used this as a house rule and it made that part of the map more interesting and if Italy wants to dispose of the threat (especially a strong Free French player) it has to act somehow to keep that VP. With 4 railroad per turn in Europe it is easy for Germany to boost defenses in Italian home country. Italy could build militia. Give militia movement within home country for all major powers.
      Allow Allies to attack Italy as a neutral power (with the penalties) as soon as US is at wartime income and at war with Germany. This keeps Italy from staying neutral until end game and allows for some action in Africa if the French player is wise.

      My wish for a new map would be Rome as an inland Italian city (not coastal).

    • RE: Italy at War & North Africa/Mediterranean at War "Expansion" Ideas

      @david-06
      I putthe Decima units in theSpecial Operations Forces so there is a marker for them. Also a marker for the manned torpedoes there. You could house rule them.

      I like the ideas of the expansion you sent to Doug. It is expansion material. But I would simplify it if I were you. How? Well, take away the need for an air unit to be on the islands and replace it for a free convoy raid period. Remove the +1 and have a maximum damage of 2 or less!? Have to think about that.

      If you would like to ping pong more on this then send me a PM. I have a bit more time on my hands.

    • RE: Planes must end their movement at an airfield

      You ask for thoughts. Here is some Free advice from an old veteran if you wish to ever have a career as a game designer. 😉 I don’t mean to discourage you.

      With all respect, I don’t feel like writing an essay why these rules you propose would not work, so I will try to keep it short. But believe me, they bring neither flavor nor simplicity (or a fun complexity) to the game. Instead they create problems that experienced players and designers can identify without playtesting. So please take my advice. You need to try and improve game mechanics, not break them.

      Ask yourself; what will the bases compete with regarding spending IPP and will for example strat bombers be more attractive to buy or not? Factors you seem to not take into account, but are important for such ideas to become valuable in a game or in house rules. That is it in a nutshell.

      Possibly you don’t have someone in your group that is experienced enough to help you with this, so it is good of you to ask the question here. Keep trying! And find someone who can teach you in this. Your group and the community can eventually benefit from good house ruling so I encourage you to continue your quest. But I really suggest to first solve the issues presented, before investing time in playtesting these rules as they are. Saves you a lot of time.

      If you have any more questions on the Admiral version of SCW, just ask. I designed it and would eventually like to adjust it to version 3.1 if there are more things not clear.

      @insanehoshi
      If they were not near deepwater ports or other naval facilities, where are those training camps of say US Marines located?

      North Carolina, north Virginia and California happen to be coastal states. For marine training camps that is not a coincidence. It is quite hard to practice an amphibious assault in the middle of the desert or a forest or the Rocky Mountains. The balance between game play and historical accuracy is important. Ofcourse there may be exceptions for certain camps. Anyway I am not here to compile a complete and perfect rule for this. Just sharing an idea and people can use it how they want to. Take what you need.

      Excellent example of argumentation. 👍🏼
      We can agree it is taste. It is a choice between complexity and historical accuracy.

      Hi Bob,
      Nice of you to join the dialogue and an honor that you are reading my posts for inspiration. Unfortunately you don’t have a lot to say about it. Please give us some more insights of your thoughts. You have written quite some complex expansions for Global War. Tell us why these simple and easy to remember concepts are so complex in your opinion? Everyone seems to like them except you. So we must be missing something here. Enlighten us please?

      Your idea is kind of blurry still. What I like is the creativity of trying to find a rule for supressed units. I have not seen that idea before. Keep working on it and maybe it becomes a golden bullet. Keep it up!

    • RE: Marines & Airborne Placements

      @chris_henry
      I meant both. Yes home country is logical. Ports for marines is logical because all the facilities are present. Like airbases for airborne. It makes these facilities more important in the game and keeping them undamaged to be able to place units may become an incentive for defending them. So strategic bombings of these facilities might become more important and creates dilemmas. Do you produce your marines at the front line or at a safer distance? It has not been playtested, but that is why they are houserules to tweak with and perfect. So post your experiences 👍🏼
