      @SirWhiskers

      I believe Anzac DOW on turn two is fairly standard so they can collect $10 in NO. This is the first game where I immediately took Solomon Islands to strip them of both NO’s and I liked the results. Normally Anzac becomes a menace but they were immediately put on their heels and Japan decided to kill Anzac first. US spent first 3 turns building in Atlantic so couldn’t help for a few turns

      Sure UK might not fall for this trap, but in my experience learning 110 alone seems to guarantee Gibastion every time. I left 109 and 91 alone to make it too juicy I think for UK not to do Gibastion. If UK doesn’t fall for trap I would be disappointed but just move on and not attack Spain turn one. I may still do it turn 3 depending on what is happening

      @CentralCommando

      The original Global 1940 games alraedy tries to make the Solomons valuable by attaching some of ANZAC’s and Japan’s national objectives to it.

      I remember how the 1914 map has the Balearic Islands and Spanish Morrocco as seperate territories and I think it would be cool if Global 1940 had the same function.

      I think Corsica would work quite well as a seperate French territory. It would give the Allies a lot more room to hit Italy early on.

      My newest Japan strategy. Do you worry about your fleet getting out of position trying to sack Calcutta? This strategy has almost your entire fleet back in SZ 6 end of J2 and Calcutta falls J6. (Or you can annihilate the Serbian army and then sack Calcutta turn 9)

      I rolled two games where Germany buys a Major IC on turn one.

      First game, UK bought an IC in Egypt and a fighter for London, and US spent in the Pacific. Sealion G3 was a rout.

      Second game, UK played conservative/defensively and aggressively with scrambles, and piled on the troops. US still spent in the Pacific because they’re not stacking 3 fully loaded AC’s in SZ 102 when Germany purchases a Major on turn one. This battle was a lot closer but Germany still sacked London with 4 tanks left and it’s entire air force (what was left of it - lost over half on G1 and G2. 1 SB, 3 Tac, 1 Ftr)

      So, I stopped reading these posts but Marshmallow’s post has brought this back to my attention.

      First, let me say, I honestly did not realize you were playing solo. The way you described the Germans actions I thought you were describing what someone else did. But, rereading this, I do see you did clearly say you were playing solo.

      Based on that I do agree I was out of line. I have no issue criticizing a strategy that is being poorly executed but I never want to actually slam the player themselves.

      Therefore, I do apologize for my out of line post.

      Do you want me to go back and edit it to say “Well, if the Germans are going to execute such a poor attack on Russia then yes, you will have the money to buy those bombers?”

      I only ask, instead of just editing it myself, because you have quoted the original post. I assume, when I edit the original post, it will not change any quoted posts. I do not want you to feel I am secretly editing or deleting something that I said that I should not have said; I totally believe in accountability.

      Please let me know if you want me to edit the original post; and again I am sorry I was careless in not understanding what was going on and making an unintended personal attack on you.

      @dazedwit my point is that if you can’t win 110, you can’t win sea lion. If Britain wants to stop sea lion they are much better off scrambling in G1 rather than conserving air for the land invasion. Typically in the game german air are more valuable than UK air. I would always scramble in that situation because its very likely that I am trading 1-2 planes against 6.

      If Germany uses 9 transports and loses those 6 planes and the British lose 2, the UK doesn’t need to build more than 6 inf before G3 to have a better than 50% chance of denying sea lion. I’m assuming here no J1 or J2 which would make stopping sea lion easier. And I’m calculating with British going with a 92 stack (which would add 2 figs, a tac, an inf and a AA) although I’m sure that won’t strictly be necessary. Obviously even with the bombing and convoying, they should manage more than 6 inf. And they may not need land units at all since they might be able to stop it at sea.

      Axis have a significant advantage in the OOB game (absent a bid) and it looks to me that in taking risky combats that you will likely lose, you are trading that away. Of course, the dice can help you out here, but usually they won’t.

      But the best way to test strategies will always be against actual competition. At some point I’m sure you will get a chance to test this against other opponents.
