I was not saying I would actually do an SBR.  So far I’ve lost 100% of my bombers in 2008 on SBR missions.  (By contrast, I’ve only shot down like 3% of the ones SBRing me.)

What I was getting at was the potential.  Germany will have to take that into consideration every move, every non-combat move and every purchase.  “What if America SBRs me?  What if America AND England SBR me?  Can I recover my position?  Can I push forward, or should I hold back more units in reserve just in case so I don’t get over extended.”

Many of the people on this forum have failed to take into consideration the psychological effects of certain purchases and positions on the board.  While it’s true you run the risk of losing all 3 bombers on the SBR mission. (Roughly 0.4% but a chance) and while it’s almost certainly wiser to use them to hold Africa, hit Japanese unprotected Industrial Complexes, or threaten Japanese warships forcing them to be more cautious in their advance, that doesn’t mean Germany should discount the potential damage caused by these bombers, nor should America let her bombers just sit there without immediate plans for them if they cannot be used this round, then at least in the next round or the round right after.  (Otherwise, if you don’t think they’ll be useful in the next 3 rounds, go for the SBR because you can just save 5 IPC a round for those 3 rounds to rebuild the dang thing if you lose it and need a replacement.)

I usually don’t like IC’s for the UK early.  I think it becomes quite a task to defend and could even require the occassional Russian support.

I think Japan does one of two things

1 - They B-line for it and probably eventually take it.  Which even if this is rd 4,5, or 6 it is still a free IC and within a tanks distance of Cauc.

2 - They kind of ignore it and B-line Mos with the Center-North routes.  Yes Japan has to trade Fic but with 2 BB-shots UK is essentially just throwing away inf (or worse tanks) for nothing as Japan can still land inf on Fic (with BB-shots, air support) and Inf on Bury (which is quicker to Mos).  They’ll still get Aus and Nz in a few turns and now if Japan has a stack of troops in Sin/Yak poised to merge at Novo, what good is a stack of Allied troops in Ind (or even Fic)?

Now if you are thinking UK IC on Ind, US IC on Sin and a KJF strat (or contain/slow Japan strat) then it is probably a better play, but you have to be confident in your Russian game that you’ll be able to hold of the Germany onslaught for a good 5,6 turns, while the other two Allies set up the Asian defense and try and squeeze Japan.

Hmm ok, but that change in the UK starting setup impact the game significantly. In AA42 the only units that can reach the BB, trn and Russian sub on G1 are the Norway ftr, the Z8 sub and the bmr. This makes for a much more risky battle. Is it better to leave the BB alone then in AA42? I have been attacking them on G1 regularly, because the odds are in Germany’s favor to win that battle but Germany is screwed if the dice don’t go well. Same wth the Z13 cruiser, I could send 3 ftrs at it in a separate battle and I’ll most likely hit it in the first round but then there’s a 50/50 chance of losing a ftr…is either battle too risky in AA42 and should I just keep the UK navy alive?

I’m not a big fan of this on R1.  Now I certainly don’t have a problem if it is an option for Russia in round 2 or 3 (where Ger counter of Kar failed).

I think it is an unnecessary risk on R1 that draws troops away from the Belo/Ukr/Wrus/Cauc area, but again after round 1 and esp after the Ger tran is sunk and it is safe to use a tank or two, then sure take it out with Russia assuming UK doesn’t need the income or want the spot for an IC.

I’ll usually take it with the first available troops once the Ger trn is sunk which could be as early as UK 2 (or US 2 if I plan a US IC).  But I typically go to Afr in rds 1 and 2 so I think I usually take Nor with the UK in round 3.

Just went back and read his US moves again, the US Pac Fleet is in the GOC sz, not the Wus sz.

Without looking at the map, I’ll have to assume that is the Sz right below Mex on the Pacific side of the board.

So that rules out a strike on his fleet on J2, he has 1 trn, 1 dd, 1 ac, 1 bb, 2 ftrs there, but it opens the door for me to unify my fleet at HI and get two BB shots and take relatively easily, while getting as many as 7 more units to Asia, to continue gaining IPC.

But As long as I can keep his fleet pinned near Mex, that is fine by me, and once again comes down to Germany just getting through the first few rds.

Fighters can fly 4 moves, as long as a carrier can pick them up (if they die, the carrier does not have to move).

That SZ is 2 from HI and you have 2 carriers and the bomber. Why cant you attack ??

you may find it more efficient to get 1-3 games in at the same time you would get 1 game in on a actual board.
but I wont argue with you there either. you probably are to much of a die-hard actual board fan :) which is cool. I liek the board a lot to. Glad the new one came out, I only played classic twice and didn’t really like it.

This is a great site, where else can you look in on 10 games or more and see the best players duke it out.

Well, most everyone was riveted to the World Cup.  I have friends in India who were staying up well into the night to watch games, and they said pretty much everyone was doing the same time.  And Africa - are you kidding?  You should have seen the crowds in Abidan over the Cote d’Ivoire team.  :-)

Looking at the map and the way the territories are laid out, I think there are some very cool things Russia can do if they are forced to fall back to Cauc and Mos.
