      Yes, there will likely be something similar.  There will probably be a different threshold for games played (minimum number games played) and maybe some minor tweaks but overall yes a simialr system will be used.

      It is my attempt to run the G40 league as close to the Anniversary league as possible.  With longer games, we have to lower the threshhold on games.

      I agree that 10 units maximum during all the game might be tough (at some point, infantries are missing on the russian front, and you need to use expensives units - usually tanks to trade territories).

      Somehow, I believe that when facing a KJF (assuming a good opponent), you cannot win if you’re not able to take and hold Caucasus at some point, and I’d say you’re in trouble if you did not manage to do that on round 6 to 8.

      I pretty much agree with that.  I’ve found I usually have to go to Epl (obvious) first then Bel (to avoid Russian stacks in both Cauc and Mos, yet you can now directly threaten Mos), then to Euk (once Russia has to fortify Mos), then you can get Cauc.  So in your time frame you need to be in Euk by rd 5-6 to get Cauc the following rd.  That’s actually pretty consistant with how I do my Infantry march games.  It’s certainly reasonable to have a credible army threaten Moscow (not just a can opener threat) by rd 7,8,9.

      Another point is that you need more air than you had : you were using one or two air units against Russia every turn… that’s really few, and forced you to use more grounds units in theses battles ; and gave me the opportunity to use some “small stack” (2, 3 or 4 units) that ou couldn’t trade efficiently all at once. And as air units also threat the uk navy, that force the allies to invest in some defense that will not be useful except to stand on defense in the atlantix.

      Yeah, I was a little light on air.  If I didn’t buy the IC, I’d buy 1 plane per turn, but just didn’t do that this game.

      I have faced the z35 ss and I just ignore it Rd1 and kill it rd 2. I lose the trn and take sum. Bring the DD to the PHI opening battle and then down to take care of the ss if it lives……Start winning as the allies. You can do it!

      But I don’t know if that battle is all that relevant.  The bom placement may be overrated.  So what if you slow down Japan.  Sub bid of six kills 1 J trn and there is no risk of not hitting and you could still place 2 inf elsewhere.
      Germany is the main early threat.  Assuming no Russian ground units bid.  Ger takes the 3 Russian territories on G1.  G2 have a shot at holding Kar.  Even if they only trade, they can still stack Bel on G3.  Russia now has to defend Mos.  G4 you move to Euk.  Now Cauc and Mos have to be defended.  G5 you take cauc.
      Obviously this is a bit simplistic but I don’t think the loss of 2 trns and a J dd is that big of a deal if the Russian front is collapsing.

      I don’t know Darth. Slowing Japan’s expansion to a crawl and allowing Russia to focus entirely on Germany for the first 5 rounds or so goes a long way.

      I’m assuming an aggressive G1.  Taking out Sz 2 and Sz 9.  If we are playing the odds game, the odds for these G1 attacks will go further in deciding the game then the 56% odds the Russian bom has.

      I don’t know about that either. taking out 2 TP’s and a DD before Japan even gets a chance to use them is pretty crippling. Even sinking just the sz62 TP limits japan a bit.

      I’d much rather have 4 units on the Russian front, then the bom.

      That’s a matter of personal preference, though. The bomber bid gives Russia multiple options while the infantry bid only has 1 option(defending against Germany). The bomber is essentially an opportunistic unit. It can provide support for Allied interdiction of Japan’s navy as well as supporting it’s ground troops in the area if you see an opening to be aggressive on the ground. And the bomber will start saving Russia units in trades against Germany once it returns from the Pacific.

      @CdnRanger:

      Russia would have to send a couple of Inf (needed desperately at the front without a Russian ground unit bid) by Rus2 to India to protect it, and perhaps Uk lands the Egypt Fighter there (if it has survived the attack from Germany)

      The US can also provide air support to India on US2 if they landed aircraft in Australia on US1.

      The India crush by Japan is nasty but it gives China an extra round or two of survival, as Japan needs to go light on Phi, and the 3 Inf in Fic that took Burma are needed to attack and hold India turn 2.

      The India crush also draws away a lot of Japan’s navy which the US and Russia can sometimes exploit in the North(threatening sz62 with air and navy, Russian ground attacks into China from Bury, etc)

      Yeah, you might have been able to wear down Japan.

      I was worried about Japan.  Infact, I don’t know if you considered this, but there was a turn or two where I was really worried, it was when you started your US retreat from China (they might have been in Nin) and I think you had UK troops in Yun still.  But I was worried you’d send your UK troops to Fuk, then load them on the US trns and use them as fodder for weakening J.  I think it was right before your fairly big assualt or maybe the turn before.  But I think you could have spared one US attack since you had enough trns to basically attack with all your UK troops and I think it would have timed out pretty well for the Allies.

      I think 42 is pretty well balanced.
      Allied are a bit more difficult to play IMO, since it requires more coordination and forthsight to play especially the US effectively. Therefore axis may have a slight advantage.

      As my opinion:

      The US has to harass Japan as fast as possible, while Germany has its weak times, just in the first three rounds. germany usually lacks infantery on turn 2 to push their offense against the USSR.
      So the US builds up a medium sized fleet in the Pacific. (including at least 2 loaded transport). Keep the fleet slightly out of range of the main japanese airforce/fleet but position to take a money island or two, remove a national objective from Japan, etc. Force them to defend a lot of places (eventually leaving one vulnerable for an attack) or force them to try to come after your fleet (1 turn the japanese fleet/airforce moves out of position) and fall back. Therefore you do not need a decesive victroy, but distract Japan from its main objectives. Maybe you have to sacrifice your pacific navy to an combined airforce and naval attack by Japan, as major distraction.
      The difficult seems to be, when to turn your attention to the atlantic. If its too late then its game over.

      The main point is the following:
      You are forced to react on the Japanese opening round. Is Japan going straight after India, is Japan trying to take the islands first or is japan going for Russia?
      UK and China should try to whittle down the japanese ground forces, while the US needs to build up some fleet, to force Japan to invest into expensive and not too useful warships.

      I agree, it’s been a great challenge to play you, and very enjoyable.  I would like to start a second league game when you are willing.  I think we are allowed to play an opponent twice a year in the league now right?  I feel like our current league game will go to the Allies (although far from certain) so our next game could be the tiebreaker  :-)
