    • RE: Rule clarification

Oh! Think about this, if German captures Kar, it IS legal for Japan to land ftrs to help defend. But by your friends logic they could not because the turns happen at the same time and this is a newly captured territory.
So your friends logic is the main flaw.
Or if UK takes WE, it is legal for US to reinforce the defense with its ftrs, it is the same principle. Maybe there is something in the rule book about that stuff. Hope this helped.

    • RE: Rule clarification

I don’t have a rule book with me but you CAN place US ftrs on a UK AC in rd 1. Your friends logic is a little off. The turns do not happen at the same time, the have a specific order - R, G, UK, J, US. And once it is the US’s turn any units on the board before the US goes are no longer “newly purchased”, thus the US can land ftrs on a UK AC, or Russian AC for that matter.

    • RE: Odd calculator for a single round of battle

Attilla’s method is a common way to get a quick overview of how things “should” turn out, however it does not give the odd’s of winning a battle (or round of combat) other then the general “Oh, should be able to take it, or not”.
An example, 6 inf attack 2 inf. Using Attilla’s method you should win and worst case you take with maybe 3 inf. That might lead you into a false sense of security thinking “this is a battle I can’t lose”, but there is still the statistical chance that the 2 inf will defeat you, albeit a small one but there is still the chance. And I believe that’s what a proper odd’s calculator should calculate. It should tell you that there is a xx% chance of 6 inf beating 2 inf.

    • RE: In the Spirit of CC (my 1000th post)

I don’t know don’t we need to multiply the 1000 posts by “the GeZe factor”?
I think that gives you only about 500 posts GeZe. Sorry.

      Seriously, good job.

Anyone see that Seinfeld episode where Kramer turns his apartment into a smoking lounge? Classic episode. :D
Jerry tells Kramer his face looks like an old catcher’s mitt. Too funny!

    • RE: Should the Draft be extended to Women?

The draft won’t ever be needed again. The more and more we develop tech the less likely we’ll need mass amounts of troops. Now we can probably just strap some machine guns on UAV’s to mow dow opposing inf. Within a few years it would probably be cheaper to mass produce those then to worry about training, feeding and housing large amounts of troops. Confrontations will be on a much smaller scale or the Urban type warfare. Plus we have all the coalition building to share responsibilities. Also if a big enough war broke out to require a draft, that will be the least of our problems. At that point we’d probably be tactically nuking any large build up of invading forces or dropping some “peaceful” daisy cutters on them. What a name. :D

    • RE: Indian IC

Actually CC, you wanna play out this scenerio?
I noticed you were looking for a game, and I have time to kill while Emu and Zero play. I was just going to wait out their game but it would be kind of fun to play this out. It would be sort of a “fixed” game since it is predetermined what Rus, Ger, and UK will do in RD 1 but after that it would be interesting. Russia must move ftrs, Ger must attack Kar and UK sz, and UK must build IC. It would prolly be a quick game.
Let me know what ya think, or I might be up for a “real” game too if you’re still looking.

    • RE: Indian IC

You can afford to let Russian troops continue East if Moscow falls in rd2 or 3, more cash for Ger. Highly unlikely but that appears to be the play, go quick for Moscow. If you take it by rd3, no worries for Ger.
You can go 2 subs and 2 planes to UK sz (risky-but doable), with remaining planes (4) to Kar, or 2 subs 3 planes to UK sz (with 3 planes still going to Kar), or the 2 subs 2 planes (to UK) and go 1 bom to E Can sz and STILL send 3 ftrs to Kar. With no russian ftrs in Kar it is takeable with up to 4 inf and 7 arm - sacrificing planes. You can even bypass AES and go SE to Cauc with BB shot and now your looking at 1-3 inf and 7 arm in Kar and 2 inf in Cauc, UK sz cleared (assume Lab trn was left), 4 inf and 2 arm in EE (arm to goto Moscow). Very bad for Moscow. Let the Allies take WE (you transported those men to Kar) and you counter with a 9 inf 1 arm buy to retake WE.
You can send 2-5 inf and 9 arm plus 1-2 planes (inf you have them) to Moscow on rd2. With 2 subs, 2 ftrs, and 1 bom to UK sz on G1 - you’ll probably only lose the subs leaving 3 planes for a moscow attack on G2.
This is very risky but still could be doable esp if those Russian troops take the open Man or continue to move East.

    • RE: Suggestion: Chat room

I’ve written a simple dice roller in C#, you have to manually remove losses, it doesn’t email results, and I haven’t taken subs into account.
But if both players could view it, then there wouldn’t be a problem with the removing of losses.
I’ve wanted to do more with it, like automatically remove losses, add the email stuff but just haven’t had the time to really make it more
“presentable” and “user friendly”, but it serves its purpose if all the players could simultaneously see it.

    • RE: Amphibious Assaults???

You must do any naval combat before you unload any troops off the trannies. So, assuming your transports survive they are free to unload their cargo, however you get NO Battleship (if you have one) shot because it used up its turn in the naval combat.
Any trans taken as casualties during the naval combat are sunk and their cargo is lost, so be careful. And after naval combat the trans can no longer move, they can just unload.
A good example is a G1 assault on Egypt:
Ger brings in BB and tran with 2 inf vs. UK sub in E. Med SZ. If the UK sub hits and you lose the tran you also lose the men, so in that case you are almost forced to lose the BB assuming it hit the sub.

    • RE: Axis bid to Japan Rather than Germany?

Yeah, a couple of games as the axis should teach them the lesson. Having Germany surrounded by 3 allies in round 4 is no fun.

    • RE: Axis bid to Japan Rather than Germany?

Also, along with what CC has pointed out, the loss of an irreplaceable ftr makes it that much harder to eliminate the allied navy when Ger finally gets to go and there is the possible loss of Germanys ships in the Baltic before she gets to even use them.

    • RE: History Term Paper on Iraq

      Just a couple of questions/comments:

Is this a paper on the History of Iraq or Saddam Hussein? Or just modern history of Iraq?
Because your paper quickly turned into a paper on a possible war on Iraq/terriorism/gulf war. You briefly mention the history in the beginning then that’s it. What about the Sarcens, the Ottomen Empire and the effects of the crusades, etc.???

Also, about Saddam, you left out his fascination with Stalin and Stalinist regimes. Also how he gained power, when as Bathe (sp) party leader he had all his opponents dragged out of the assembly and killed.
And it was HIS invasion of Kuwait that led to the Gulf war and the fact that Saudi Arabia was next. Ooops, getting off track.

My point is if this is a history paper on Iraq make sure you cover more then the last 30-40 years and don’t turn it into a “why we shouldn’t attack” paper or an “anti-republican/Bush” paper, unless of course that is the topic. If this is a factual history paper, it should be based on facts and not your own political beliefs. If it is and opinion paper then never mind.

Oh, and Saddam had the 3rd (I think) largest army in the world (in 1991) not the the deadliest. Sorry, off topic again.

    • RE: Time Travel

It’s been a while since I’ve had physics so bare with me.
But if I remember correctly if you are on a conveyour belt and do jump straight up you are still traveling at the speed of the conveyour belt and will land roughly in the spot you started.
Much like jumping up in a plane (although I’ve never tried) you’ll not go flying back and hit the back of the plane-you’re still traveling at the speed of the plane so you’ll land where you started from.

Plus if you could travel back in time, I think someone would have done it by now (that is someone in the future, well our future) and someone would’ve have seen someone or their would be evidence in our past that someone from 100, 1000, 5000, heck a million years from now has traveled back. Plus you can’t forget the possibility that you could wipe out your own existance.

Here is the key to Axis victory South Park style:

      Phase 1: Set up board
      Phase 2: ???
      Phase 3: Axis Win!!!

    • RE: Barring favorable rolls how can the axis win?

Yes, you do have to worry about spending too much to hold Africa but a second transport allows Ger so many options that sometimes its worth the chance. I usually vary my German strategies too, so this isn’t something I do every game. Also I like to play Germany with no RR and one hit BB, so I’m a glutton for punishment. It is hard to win but I do love the challenge.
My problem with taking Egypt on G1 is I’ve missed with my BB before and the UK sub sank both my ships+the Inf they were carrying, and many times I’ve lost my BB. I have a hard time trading BB for sub.

So now I’m working on taking Egypt on G1 by bring a ftr down.

I’m also working on an all out Russia strat where Germany leaves WE open on Rd1, and infact leave the allied atlantic fleet almost completely in tact. It looks suicidal but it might work. (I play all 5 countries on the CD-extremely helpful in finding new strats) The theory-UK and US can’t pass up a free six IPC so they put 4 inf there but since Ger bought 10 Inf those four are sitting ducks with minimal Ger loss and Germany continues to trade WE keeping the battles as small as possible and US, UK inf out of Kar. The key would be Ger take Kar on rd 1 at all costs and takes cauc on rd 2 or 3 while trading WE, not letting allied troops build up in Russia. The benefit is Ger has to place newly purchased units in the motherland anyway so it costs you nothing to place units there but you just can’t let the allies hold WE, and early in the game they shouldn’t be able to. Once you hold Kar and Cauc, you then concentrate on WE.
This probably should’ve been a seperate topic-oh well.
