      @Soon_U_Die:

      DM,

On Low Luck….I hate it :)  Seriously, it bores me to death.  I understand why people like it and why they like it.Â

SUD<----Picturing people hammering the keyboard when they come up short on a full luck game.

But, I find it boring and predictable.  I am actually in the camp that thinks at a high level of play it is too limiting, too restrictive, and not at all more skillful…rather less skillful.  I hate that you can use 5 Ftrs, Bomber, 1 Inf vs 3 Inf and not risk losing more than the one attacking Inf.  I don’t think that makes you more skillful…I think it makes you less skillful because you never have to overcome adversity or unpredictability.

The game is already very static/predictable IMO.  Making it more so…is just a snooze fest, IMO.  After all this time, I still just like playing the game having fun.  I’d rather have a beer and laugh with my opponents when all 5 attacking Ftrs get shot down by AA, then grip the board in some serious death grip complaining about luck and the dice.  It is just a game after all.  And I picture the serious Low Luckers as serious nerds who take this way too seriously.  Just MO so no one should get their knickers in a twist :)

But, whatever floats your boat.  And for a change of pace, sure.Â

But it’s not for me.  I’d rather hang wallpaper.

      SUD

I totally agree.  From what I’ve played of it, it is far too predictiblable.

I like dealing with “worst case” scenerios and not knowing the outcome of battles.

I don’t like the idea of “guarenteed” hits, it definitely takes something away.

That being said, I will play it if someone insists or for a change of pace, and I know certain players swear by it so I play it if I play someone who only plays LL.

SUD, what are your thoughts on Low Luck?  I just mean do you play it.

Anyway, I’d do Pearl Lite (a lot) in that since you’re guaranteed 2 hits for sure and the US can only get 1-2 hits.

    • RE: UK's First Move

      @googie7745:

Well what would you suppose I do with my Indian infantry and fighter? Should I attack Burma with it? Infantry and fighters both defend better. And why not strafe WE? Two fighters against two infantry will win with one fighter gone, and the US can land two infantry and fighter to defend and your bomber goes to the UK. Your Rhodesian infantrywould also attack alongside your Syria-Iraq infantry. And Germany wouldn’t be able to build in Karelia in G2, because Russia would counterattack with four inf, four tanks, and a fighter. And if you would win every time as Axis, the how come I play as Allies and always win?

      Several options:

      1)  Kwangbang - take Man on R1 and attack Kwang on UK 1 with 2 inf, 1 ftr
      2)  Send EGy forces and Ind forces to Per for and army of 4 inf, 1 arm (land ftr wherever)
      3)  Counter Egy if germany took on rd 1 you can counter with 3 inf, 1 ftr, 1 bom
      4)  Reinforce Ken/Rho with the 2 inf.
      5)  Reinforce Sin with the 2 inf

Do not underestemat a tactical retreat in Asia (for the Allies).  This is often how you will need to play to win once you start introducing bids.

Don’t consider attacking WE rd 3 or later.

Round 1 (allies) - buy set up units (ie AC for UK, and trns for UK/US)
Round 2 - land in afr (buy more trans)
Round 3 - go to Fin
Round 4 - take WE (or continue to ship to Fin then move to Kar)
      Round 5 - repeat rd 4, etc.

I prefer just threatening (bluffing at) WE and continuing to send troops to Fin and Kar so you can do a 1-2-3 punch on EE (or reinforce Mos if necessary)

    • RE: Russia's First Move

You should probably start playing with bids to help out the axis.  You seem like a pretty good player who is ready to move on.

Quite frankly it doesn’t matter what Russia does on R1 (straight up) the Allies are going to win the game.

For the sake of argument though, I’ll Retake Man (heavy), probably take Chi, and do a variation of Pearl Lite.

The Reason bids should be considered is here is a typical R1 turn

      1)  Attack Ger sub with Rus sub (either win or chase off ger sub)
      2)  Kill Ger ships in baltic (2 ftrs, 1 trn)
      3)  Strafe/take Ukr
      4)  Strafe/take Man (or just reinforce yak)

There is just too much damage you can do.  Russia is far to powerful when played right.  Hence the need for RR with a 9-12 bid or just a 21-24 bid game.

    • RE: Japan's First Move

I will hit Pearl about 90-95% of the time on J1.  There is no good reason to let the US ships live.

This of course turns into a 100% if UK buys a carrier on UK1, which negates the possibility of a US counter.

I have to assume at the very least an RR game, otherwise it really doesn’t matter because the allies are going to win a straight up game about 95% of the time anyway.

I’ll hit with 2 ftrs, 2bb’s, 1 sub, 1 bom, 1 ac.  And I’ll lose the sub and 1 bb (or 1 ftr).

I’ll also only attack Chi (unless SFE and/or Ind is mt)

And about 90% of the time I buy either 3 inf and 2 trns or 3 trns.

    • RE: The Importance of Persia

      Yes it is important.

And if it were worth more the Allies would never lose, ever.

UK could buy an IC and imagine UK placing 2-3 units there a turn.

Infact, I believe in first edition rules there was no cap on new IC prodution and this was a common strat.  UK would just buy and IC and it would be game over.

    • RE: The "Money Grab"

Japan doesn’t matter if Germany loses both EE and WE in rd 3.
Again, I’ll gladly sacrifice 3 UK ftrs (or US planes) for 3 German trans (if they bought 1-2)

      Tactical Retreat (in the East)

      R1 fortify Yak (7 inf) and Kar (19, 3, 2)

UK1 - Move Ind and Egy troops to Per.  (4 inf, 1 arm) planes to Cauc

US1 - ftrs to UK sz, bom to Cauc (or Kar/UK/Mos)

Round 2 - Germany’s fleet is toast.  They have no move left - either UK or US will take them out.

Now UK can hold its forces in Per, or move to Ind, or move to Cauc.
US and R can retreat to Novo

US/UK land in Afr (or wait)

      Round 3

      Russia Strafe EE (or take)
UK/US go to Afr (or WE)

Japan will be no where near Moscow or even have the ability to take Novo.

Also Russia (if strafing EE) can retreat from Novo to Mos and with a placement of 6 inf on Moscow, Japan will be looking at a counter of 13 inf, 7 arm, 2 ftrs by Russia.  Meaning Japan is going to need like 15 inf to hold.
They simply can’t get that many troops to Novo in rd 3 or 4 (with no bid).

Japan isn’t scary if Germany has no ships and has lost EE (or getting pummeled there) and can’t hold WE (or is getting booted out of Afr).

      In RR
Germany would be much better off buying all inf (no ships) and simply waiting till rd 4 or so for Japan to get going strong as you suggest.
Because you don’t need lots of troops to dance around Afr.  You just enough to take Egy.  Once you do that 1 tank and 1-2 inf are all you need to blitz around which can be accomplished by your original tran.

What I like doing in RR is killing the UK/Rus fleet in UK sz and killing the UK Med BB as well.  Then using the Baltic tran to transport some troops from Fin to Afr.  It depends but I like getting the Arm out of Fin but I will do 2 inf sometimes as well.

Then with 2 inf from SE you have a pretty solid Afr force.  If you’re willing to sacrifice an extra plane you can still have your BB and tran in Central Med with your other tran off the coast of Sp.  You’ll still lose your ships on UK/US2 but you get the extra 2 inf (or arm) from Fin.

    • RE: The "Money Grab"

Oh yeah, I forgot you’re probably never going to be able to use your navy.

      G1 - buy trn

UK 1 land 3 ftrs 1 bom in Cauc with with Rus support on R2 with inf or 2 and R ftrs.

Now UK can have 3 ftrs 1 bom attack the Ger fleet followed up by a US bom and 2 Russian ftrs if need be.

But most likely the British will kill all the ships on UK2.
Thus you just wasted 8 IPC for a tran.  even if you bought 2 on G1.
I’d still send 3 ftrs and 1 bom after them.  At worst I kill all your trans for my planes.  UK can absorb the losses, Germany cannot.

    • RE: The "Money Grab"

You might be able to get away with 1 tran on G1 but other than that you’ll be doomed.  You can’t afford to take too much out of Europe.  Beside Germany doesn’t need much to take Afr.  Once you clear Egy, you just need to blitz your arm around and kill the guy that starts in South Afr.

G1 - transport 2 more inf to lib.
G2 - take egy (probably mt now as UK probably moved out), regardless you can take with ease on G2.
      G3 - blitz around

      Otherwise,
If you get too ship crazy with Germany
You’ll lose EE very quickly to the Russians since there will be no threat of a counter by Ger.  Russia could even just keep strafing EE.
Imagine RR with 19 inf, 3 arm, 2 ftr on Kar.
Germany doesn’t attack and buys 1 trn 8 inf.
Now G moves 2 inf to Afr so the best Germany can have in EE is 9 inf, 8 arm, 3-4 ftrs and an aa.

Now say Russia buy 3 inf, 3 arm on Rd 2.  So Kar has 22 inf, 7 arm (1 from the east), 2 ftrs.

After G2 with only 4 more inf to Afr (using your now 2 trns), then EE is only going to be at about 13 inf, 8 arm, 4 ftrs, aa.

Now Russia can strike on R3

      49 vs. 58 (7 hits vs 10)
      39 vs. 42 (6 hits vs 7)
      32 vs. 30 (6 hits vs 6)  Rus retreats with 6 arm 2 ftrs
While Ger is left with only 4 ftrs, 1 arm.

Or you can just take out the German airforce if you keep going.
You’ll end up with about 2 arm and 2 ftrs left.  And Germany is left with just Inf.

Now you may have to pull those troops from Afr anyway to help in Europe.
Also on UK-US 3 you’re likely to lose WE as well.  Even if Germany has 12-14 inf in Ger, you can’t take WE and EE without any arm.

Yeah, there is a bit of a learning curve to it.

I actually went through some of the tutorial to get used to the new look and stuff.

But then I decided to jump in and just learn as I go.

I had some trouble posting for a bit.

We lost about 2 yrs or so of topics due to a hacker incident, so yeah you’re probably going to see A LOT of rendundant threads as we try to rebuild the info that was lost.

Anyway, good to see ya back.

    • RE: US 1 Purchases

      This was RR right?

If you know your opponent or feel a Kar strike on G1 is possible, Russia can certainly take back Cauc on rd 2.

      Russia Stacks Kar (like above)

But move 2 inf from eve to Mos and 1 arm from yak to Novo.

Now UK takes back Kar on UK 1 (russia moved ships to Uk sz) and Russia attack 2 inf on Cauc with 2 inf, 1 arm.

And Russia places 8 more inf on Kar, or can even deadzone it by placing all 8 inf on Mos.

If Germany is going for all or nothing they need to take Kar with about 5-7 tanks to have a shot.  2-4 is not enough.

Russia can easily just retreat on the Eastern Front and by the time J3 rolls around Germany is boxed in Europe and the Allies have started to arrive in full force making it possible for Russia to hold against Japan and even push them back becasue Germany is in a weakend state.

From what I have read, the police weren’t even chasing the two youths.

The kids thought they were but the police were after someone else or something.

I thought this would die down too.  I figured that things would have at least been sorted out over the weekend.

I thought I saw/read something about “copycat” stuff in Belgium as well.

Anyway, I hope they put a clamp down on this soon, otherwise it is just going to get uglier and uglier.  Because at this point I don’t think it is going to be something that is going to die down on its own.  Esp, if this stuff is starting to become “organized”.

So, it has been 8 days now.

What is the word on this from those of you in Europe.  I just say that cause you probably have more info, I really have’t seen too much on it here.

I’ve just seen the AP stories and stuff.

(no link - just go check yahoo news)

Is this going to get worse?  Or are the French just hoping it will die down on its own?  I’m not sure if that will happen.

Could this escalate into something bigger?

Yeah, its pretty sweet.  Just need to get used to it.

I remember the switch to the previous style and how there was a period of getting used to that.  Funny thing is, now I can’t remember what the style before that looked like.  I have vague memories, but that is about it.  So given time, I’ll get so used to this I won’t even remember what the php looked like.  :-D
