      Weekend GamerW

Actually, I WISH I had the flying Stukas.  I stupidly selected those IPC-sucking subs that do nothing but suck IPCs out of Germany!   4 subs purchased x $8 a sub = a whole mess of land units I could use right about now.  :-P  Those subs did shave a fair amount of income from Britain and the U.S., but when you’re buying only 8 infantry a turn as Germany, it’s like your moving in slow motion or something.  Freaking Russia was going crazy in Europe because I had too little fodder to be aggressive (until recently, that is).

I think I’ll start a thread on NAs, come to think of it.

How about one bomber a turn instead, at least for the first couple of turns?  The cost isn’t that much more, the attack ability is slightly better, and the additional range is a significant advantage.  I like to build up a force of at least three bombers that can range around to various trouble spots (Gibraltar, Egypt, Russia, France, the Atlantic), wherever trouble rears its head, or wherever additional force is needed for an attack.

I only do 2 inf 2 art 2 arm if I’m going to mess with Ukraine on USSR1 or USSR2.  For that plan, you want to have attacking units on the front real quick, so it’s 2 inf 2 art on Cauc and 2 arm on Russia, all threatening Ukraine.

If I’m going W. Russia / Belorussia, I’ll usually go 8 inf, or sometimes 1 fighter 1 tank 3 inf.  In those situations, Germany can’t really afford to take anything in a forward position anyways.  If I get 8 inf, I can make my W. Russia stack bigger earlier.  If I get 1 fighter, I can hit Germany’s territories early.

I’d actually go 3 tanks, 3 infantry.  3 Tanks in Russia, 3 Infantry in Caucasus.  Gives you vastly stronger attack/defense then just infantry alone would.

I’d rather not see more tanks then infantry.  Personally, I think a ratio of 1.4 infantry to 1 armor is about as low a ratio as you should have to allow yourself sufficient cannon fodder.

I find that Germany can win games with lots of infantry massing into one territory.  Then when their infantry is ready to attack, you buy tanks so that when you make the breakthrough they will be their for the final push into Russia.

      ?

LOL, but in the last game, the US was not going to drop 12 divisions into Western on US5… they were still screwing around in the Pacific (and I already have more gains in the Pacific this game than last…)

You are playing MUCH better this game Octo.  I congratulate you on your improvement!  If you had played Germany like you did in our first match, you would be toast now.  Very pleased that you have stepped up and made this game a serious challenge!

This game will make the the American army as powerful as they can get away with. Just like all the other axis and allies games the Americans all way are made very powerful with troops or IPCs. The German army will just be strong enough to make the Americans retreat a few spaces.

germany is in a wierd position. germany in A&AE starts off in a pickle like it does in the origanal. they have a big military, plenty of territory, but a small amount of ipc to start. however they dont have the stamina to last a grudge mach. that is why you need a good basic strategy the first few rounds, and evolve it as the game goes on. you need to conquer the sea and maintain good preassure in the USSR. you need to build 2-3 destroyers each turn for about 5 or so turns. then you need to bominate the sea. by taking and keeping the convoy routs, as well as destroying the allied navy. after turn 4-5 build a few transports, and inft. send them to the middle east. by doing this you get much needed ipc. on top of that you can continue to transport small amounts of troops over there. this opens up a small defeansive force that can march slowly to moscow. however make sure there are a few tanks with it. if you take this force and combine it with your main force in the west it will devosate the USSR, without the other allies to support her. and once you take the USSR, you obviously have a good lead. but you need to pump out a few ships during this process. if you loose the sea the allies can land troops in the european continent.

Care to be more specific? Where should the russian player attack? And while it is potentially a valid strategy in no-bid depending on how it is implemented, Russia cannot attack without the allies so what is the point in mentioning them? I mean, I’m glad you came up with a “other strategy”, but why don’t I just list all of the other options you could potentially come up with. Germany - attack or defend, uk - attack or defend, japan - attack or defend, us - attack or defend. Now that I’ve covered all the strategies, maybe we can dig into details a bit?

It’s much more effective and timely to put the pressure on Germany through the well-known troop ferry, eventually crashing into WEu, or sending a transport to harrass/reclaim Afrika. A KJF strategy can work, but only with substantial coordination, and is more risky. (but that’s the fun of the game)

      I agree with AAF.

Axis and Allies is a team effort - all players have to do their part. Without cooperation within the team, that side will likely lose.

Now having said that, I think some positions are more important than others. For example, in baseball I would rather have a great pitcher and a poor center fielder than vice versa. Likewise in AnA, I think for the Allies, you above all, want Russia to be played well (UK and US are secondary as long as they try). For the Axis, I would say Germany needs to be played well. In both cases, if that country falls, its quite likely the game is over.

      @darkangel:

japan is one of the least difficult countries to be. in fact its the esiest other than america.

p.s i hardly play with japan. for some reason japan and the UK are the countries i play the least. i do not know good strategy with japan.

If you do not know any good strategies with Japan, how can you say it is the easiest country to play? I certainly agree if you mean easy as in does not have to worry too much defensively. However, the game also generally hinges on all nations. Certainly Germany, UK, and Russia need to be played well enough to keep them in balance. Without the help of Japan and America though, either side is left struggling. They can be harder to play because they have more options. In any event, I definitely disagree that Japan is the easiest to play.

Also, it would be helpful if in any of your posts you actually replied to criticism. Posting something and then ignoring responses is equivalent to acknowledging we are right, which may be what you mean to do.

Further, stop calling everyone here a “common person”.

darkangel, in all three of your strategy articles, you’ve overstated the value of purchasing fighters for defense. I suppose if you’re going to spend your money purchasing a sub fleet for air defense, it probably doesn’t matter what else you’re spending on, you’re already screwed

that is true. an allies superior air force would destroy any germany menace in the atlantic. it would divert some ipc from the front against the USSR. however if the germans do land in brazil it would do two things. divert the economic power house for a few turns. as it would give germany a plus 3 ipc, atleast for a little while. as well you can then transport troops to africa or to invade the UK. if you dont invade the UK you can fake like you do. divert a turn or to of the UK to defeanse. taking more pressure of of germany for a little while.
