    • RE: Painting the world at war

The planes are in 1/600 scale and i took a leap of faith when ordering as there are no pictures of them on site. So far it has all been good. The ships are in a different scale, 1/3000 i think, dont quote me on it though. Imperious leader knows all this stuff and has it in a thread somewhere.

Can you buy replacement Aircraft Carriers as well? I was thinking they’d be great if I could get metal copies of them, that way I wouldn’t need to attach a magnetic strip to keep my aircraft on them.

You may still need the magnetic strip. The planes are pewter so still require the magnet, dont know if the ships are the same.

" Carnage", costs can mount up, yes i am an addict  :-D i could quite easily spend hundreds if i had it to spare…… :-D I have probably spent about $150 to $200 so far on acquiring extras and decals, brushes and paints, well maybe around the $60 mark. My son tends to use a bit more paint than i do  :-)
“Viracocha” and “Carnage”, at  Brookhursthobbies dot com click on miniatures games, then tumbling dice. The planes are metal…  With so many to choose from it is easy to get carried away, for the Brits i chose the swordfish because it played a major part in the early war years with the fleet air arm,  Bismark and Taranto, i am also thinking of a gloster gladiater for Malta, anybody read about “faith , hope and charity”? I also have some hurricanes to paint up.   :-D

Thanks fellas, the extra planes i got through  " brookhursthobbies dot com" and “tumblingdice dot com”, yes swordfish and typhoons for the brits, america just wasn’t complete without p40’s p51’s and corsairs, there are 2 avengers there as well. Have recently received some b25’s, p47’s and some french d520’s to add to the mix. I found the site through reference from one of the other fellow painters here and have enjoyed expanding my collection. Lots more parts to come yet.
Thanks for the info carnage, have just sent them an email.
My aircraft stands, i originally drilled little holes in the aircraft to mount them on the nails but then it formed on me to just use the magnets like i do on the carriers and the fighters. The magnet is a rubber strip less than 1mm thick.

    • RE: Technologies

Some only allow your paratrooper to be dropped into a completely un-occupied zone not behind enemy lines (I’m not a fan of this as dropping behind the lines causes panic for a turn) or as a combat mission.

I agree, i even go as far as kamikaze bomber just to drop the trooper in a critical zone. Not very ipc efficient but can be game altering…

    • RE: Fake armies

Didn’t the chinese and british have airfields full of fake wooden fighters?    Guess it would be a bit hard to do in our games seeing as china only gets one fighter……

The stands i made with furniture buttons and a nail. My carriers and planes have magnets on them so they stick to both.  :-) I did buy stands from 2 different places but the bases take up too much room, so the furniture buttons work well, got the idea from another fellow who painted his units…. :-D

When i opened the japanese box i was a bit surprised by how many pieces were there, i guess it works out the same considering that the uk and the us are divided on 2 boards. Has taken me a while, still have some minor details to finish but available to look at.

    • RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread

Hey you bunch of panic merchants settle down, when you have the pieces in your hands then you can complain " if there is something wrong". Give the man a break he has been working hard and stressing to get the pieces to us so be grateful that somebody cares enough to get us new pieces……

Thanks for the compliments guys, i appreciate it.  I have been trying to work on finishing a nation each week but work and family commitments eat away my time as well, but i can usually manage a couple hours each night.  One of my sons sits with me and paints his army men as well  :-D

    • RE: Painting the world at war

Thank you, the europe board is ready for battle now, really annoyed that they chose russian units for the french??? What were they thinking.  Will be starting on the pacific set soon, of course will have to do the italians again when fmg’s units come in. More practice and learning new tricks as i go. Those slogans are tricky, so fragile, lost a few.

    • Painting the world at war

Everybody seems to be painting their pieces,  i am doing the same, not as classy and sophisticated as some of the artists here but, the end result looks better than oob  :-) Not historically accurate and my colour shemes are off, i dont bother with mixing colours, whatever is close enough.
Comments and critics welcome as long as its helpful.
I am still not allowed to post pictures or links unfortunately, just add the http:

Ongoing and will probably never finish it, especially when all the new units come out from FMG andHBG.  :-D
Could one of the mods help out with the links please….

    • RE: Getting someone started on A&A

A newbie should be invited to read the rule book and ask lots of questions, yes give him a major power so he has to make big decisions, it is part of the learning process and the fun factor of the game. Giving him a minor power will not get him involved, it would be more like sitting around being bored till his next turn. Whether it be axis power or allied, his team mates can help to advise him on his next move. I have 3 young boys that i am introducing to the (classic) aa world, i let them choose which team and just play for fun….Classic or revised may be a better starting game for newbies though.
