    • RE: Germany True Neutral Crush G3

All of the strict Neutrals become pro allied,  The allies still have to send units to active them and then, those units can still only be used the following turn because it is a non-cmbat move into a pro-neutral.  The Allies will receive the income on their collect income phase but that is about it.

It almost seems like the secondary benefit to Germany for using this strategy is that it will pull forces AWAY from Germany for a turn.  So yes the Allies will receive a few extra Infantry but they will be arriving later in the Battle.

If anyone tries this I would like to hear about it.  I am playing my first game on Sunday and I am thinking I will be either Germany or Japan as I have the most experience with A&A in my gamming group.  Any suggesttions would be great.

    • RE: German Minor Ic in Southern France

I like the idea of Germany taking souther France.  It seems that have fleet operations in the med would be useful for a cople of reasons:

      1. With smaller amounts of troops in Africa (than in Europe) a “hopping over” or “can-opener” strategy may work well.  An example might be say Germany landing troops to take both Egypt and Trans-Jordan, then Italy can sail through the Suez on the same turn.

      2. Italy or germany caputures a land territory in Africa with the other power landing fighters for reinforcements.

      Might be interesting to see.

You could bring a couple of mech infantry along with the tanks from west germany. These could act as soakers for the tanks.

What about Germany Capturing Southern France on turn 1?   It has a Naval Base and with a Minor factory it could influence the med quite a bit.

The Minor factory is in Normandy, not Vichy

I realize ther factory is in Normandy but I was thinking of buying a minor factory for southern France.  I’m playing my first game on Sunday and I am preparing what I will do if I draw Germany or Japan.

Anyone else find that had just barely enough cruisers to set up the game?

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

Well, I guess we will wait for you to tell uswhat the actual situation is Krieg.  This seems like a silly thing to debate.  The only advantage of this “smudge” would be that the U.S.A. could launch into SZ 106.  You have cleared that up.  In all the other edtions of Axis & Allies east and West Canadian territories are contigious.  Why change that now?

I would hope that the intent, where possible, is to use comon sense and simplicity.  In my opinion they do touch.

    • RE: Italy a bad design

      @Chompers#2:

Japan can kill the 18 Russian Inf with ease any time it wants if they don’t keep one space away.  I wish the Russian player would mass them all on the border turn one, as japan  I can then blast them and use the rest of my plane movement to heads towards India.  It would clear one avenue away with little loss.

When I played Russia I danced with Japan making sure that if they did attack me it would be with only planes so that I would at least kill expensive troops.  The Japan player never took the bait and we danced all the way back to me running my 18 Inf into Moscow around turn 9 or so to get ready for the fact that Japan was about to finally be in range.  This left Moscow with about 100 Inf plus tanks, art, planes, allied planes etc… So even though Japan was finally in range they needed to do a massive troop build to be able to capture the city.  On the other side of the board America had two major Ind complexs in Europe and US and Britan were landing every turn.  Germany had like 50 Inf and 30 tanks inside it so we just decided to call it a draw but we both felt if we had played it out that US would have gotten Germany before Japan would have gotten Russia.  The closest Major Ind complex Japan can get to Moscow is India.  The allies have many options for getting major ind complexs in europe.

This seems like a decent strategy.  Draw Japan into Russia away from where they can do real damage.  Then if they don’t press hard enough, counter attack.

    • RE: AAG40 FAQ

If you look at a map, Maine does not boarder the St. Lawrence.  It’s northern boundary is made up of Quebec to the north west and New Brunswick to the north east.

The most northernly major port at this time was in Portsmouth New Hamphire and it is clearly now where near the St. Lawrence.

I will be using the actual situation of New Brunswick and Quebec touching each other and Maine not touching the St. Lawrence.

    • RE: Tank Purchases R.I.P.

I think with A&A Global 1940 tanks are an even more important purchase than ever.  Being able to project force is key to winning any conflict.  With Tanks being able to to move two, you can certainly project farther than any other land unit (Mech’s must be supported by tanks of course).  With there being double the land territories as in anniversary there is certainly more places to project force.  Keeping your opponent guessing as to where the attacks will actually go is nearly as important as winning the battle. If your opponent must defend an extra two or three spaces because you have 3 or 4 tanks in a group (vs just 1 lets say), he’ll have to guard against flank attacks.  Of course any tank attack must be supported and Mech Inf seem to be great for the job.

By increasing the cost to 6, you will have to use tanks much more sparingly.  Infantry, artillery and Mech Inf will form the back bone of your army in Germany and Russia, but I think a wise general will use tanks as the fist.  Not to mention that Tac. Bombers add a bit more to attack as well.

I like the direction that Larry has taken with making the game more “combined arms” oriented.  This seems to me to be one of the more historical things to be added to the game.
