If china or Russia captures the Manchurian Factory it is destoyed rather than being downgraded. China can’t have any ICs.

RE: The key to (killing) Russia's heart is in Nenetsia, 2.0posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I say go for the “gimick” win. The first time I tried something along the lines of building German Aircraft Carriers was back in Revised. I built two (and a transport), landed four planes and went on my Merry way attacking the med coast and I took stalingrad on turn two.
This was not a gimmick, it protected the German fleet and allowed it the same range as if staying in France in revised. Global is a different game and what you would call a “gimmick” strategy in this case is null and void in Global.
I didn’t mean gimmick win in a bad way. That’s why it was in quotes. For the future we will call this a non-conventional strategy. Though this game is so new and unplayed who knows what the “conventional” moves will end up being.

@SalothSar:
Also, a counter to Russia building surface ships is very simple. Wouldn’t using all those Japanese planes to sink Russia ship do the trick? Hell, if Germany doesn’t know what to build on G3 why not an Airbase for his Japanese allies!
Build it where?
Nenestsia on turn 4.

Why not buy a major IC in Korea? Pump out Mech (and a few tanks) just for the purpose of moving up fast and spreading out with your plane as the killing units.

I think the original idea of this thread is to try something NEW, and win, rather than press on with the old, dull, IPM. Hey IPM wins more games than not, but if you can surprise your friends with a strategy they have never seen before they may not be able to figure out the counter quick enough. (If Mr. Rick Bunnell did read this thread I guess gsh34 you are out of luck).
Try this out and let us know how it goes.

I think that technology should make certain units obsolete. This is the way it happens.

RE: Do you use "ALPHA SENARIO" set-up for Global 1940?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
The alpha setup should not be used for G40. G40 obviously has more depth, hurdles and not to mention 18 Russian infantry staring at you. Slowing down the Japs in G40 makes no sense.
I think it is going to have to be less about a unit balance, and more about a rules change to make G40 work, perhaps something where the US’s NO doesn’t trigger unless Japan directly attacks the US.
As I said in an earlier post Larry said we should use it. Why don’t you try before you discard the idea.

RE: Do you use "ALPHA SENARIO" set-up for Global 1940?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Well I’m playing my second game of Global starting tomorrow. I email Larry and he was kind enough to respond. He suggested that I use the “Alpha Senario” set up. I said I would do a Battle report and post it on his website and let him know how it went.
If the guy who created the game suggests that I use it, I will. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

You can’t collect income while your capital is in enemy hands. So would the Italian money go right to the bank?

Do you use “ALPHA SENARIO” set-up for Global 1940? Or do you use just for Pacific 1940.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Alpha better gameplay?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I think with Alpha senario set-up it’s a trade off in the sense that in the early game, Axis losing hardware at a ration of 1:1 is the allied player’s dream, however having those additional Japanese ground forces on the mainland make this a bit more in favor of the Axis than you may think.
In all of the games of Axis & Allies I have ever played, Getting Japanses ground forces onto the mainland has always been the strategy. So think of it this way: You sacrifice a few planes to get troops (which are the only way to win this game) that much closer to the objectives. Also to boot, you get to kill off an equal amount of enemy aircraft. (ANZAC got Neutered hard)!
Would you pay 70 IPCs to kill off 70 Ipcs of enemy planes and get 6 (free) land units 2 spaces closer to the enemy capital?

RE: Japanese uses Mongolia as the USSR can-opener. Thoughts?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Maybe. I have thought about Italy and Germany taking over Spain, Turkey and Sweden. Mongolia woudl have to be next I suppose. You wouldn’t want Russia getting those free troops.
If you coordinate well with the Europe Axis and Kind of Lure Russia into leaving his units near the Japanese board (say with a lightly defended factory) this tactic might work.

RE: Question regarding 18 inf Russian stackposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Dooming moscow is not a gamebreaker in this edition
It opens the possibility of getting france back in the game, if the Allies can push past normandyAt 17 if it controls all but FIC, it is a power that is near Russia’s IPC stockpile when it fell.
Basically losing Moscow is dooming the allies in this edition. If Moscow falls, Germany (or maybe Italy) gets all of the Russian income and there are no allies which can take back the Russian Capital. For the Axis to win they must take Moscow unless they are planing to invade U.S.A. for victory cities.
Once the Axis have consolidated and linked up it’s good night for the Allies. It’s been that way in every edition. It is that way now. Germany just has to neuter the U.K. fleet in the Atlantic. I think that a sub in the Balitic wil also help them fight the U.K. economically.
The lesson here is to not lose Moscow because if you do, Germany’s Attention is now 100% on U.K.! Game over.

RE: Question regarding 18 inf Russian stackposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
What I have found is if Germany does not do Sea Lion, you have to move them back to Moscow. If Germany is attacking at full power vs. the U.S.S.R. (with Support from Italy) the U.S.S.R. is doomed. You should move them R1 directly to Moscow and keep them trucking. Hell if Japan sends a couple of ground forces your way that might be what tips the balance in Asia for the rest of the Allies.
SEND them to Moscow. You’ll need them there.

RE: China how long does it stay around in your games?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
Why not ignore China all together? Basically give them the few terriotories that they can conquor/Enter and Smash the U.K. right away.
I know there are a couple of important victory cities lurking on the Chinese mainland but you can always come back to them.

RE: Is A&A 1940 global really worth it????????posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’ll weigh in. Everyone’s situation is different. In my case, with four preschool children I don’t have enough time to play the game, any game very often. What I think I am going to have to do is play it as an ongoing game with it set up in the basement. I must say that I would love to play it all the way through.
If you are the type of person that needs to finish the game in one night, this game might not be for you. If you have the time or can/will leave it set up,
DEFINITELY BUY THE GAME!

RE: 20+ hours of gameplay: is this game too long?posted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
My 1st (and only so far) game lasted 13 hours and we finished 7 complete turns. Japan was still a threat with a large navy and airforce but it was basically contained to its islands. Germany may have been able to finish Russia off but Itlay had reached it’s apex and was declining.
I would have to say it was a draw at this point with a very slight edge going to the Allies. I would have guess it was going to take a while to finish.

RE: Strange Italian Strategyposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
I’ve done something similar in holding back my money to save for a future purchase. I was Italy at the time but the reason why I saved my cash was that I was being strategically bombed and I needed to repair my factory. Basically saved for one turn, then repaired my factory and purchased some units on that same turn.

RE: Tank Questionposted in Axis & Allies Global 1940
These are two separate bonuses. They happen at different times, therefore you calculate the combos during that specific phase. So the short answer is yes, 1 tank will do.
- Tank + Mech. Inf. = Mech. Inf. Blitz (Combat move)
- Tank + Tac. Bom. = Tac. Bom attk @ 4 (combat)
