I don’t think the goal here should always be to make different units from WOTC. Isn’t the point just to have better (and some new) units that WOTC provided you with? Don’t you want a Sherman? Aren’t naval units going to be similar except for Italy and France? Isn’t Japan going to have the Zero? I don’t know. I want new units as much as anyone else, but I want iconic units as well. Not units that weren’t as important just because WOTC made them already. These units are so much better looking than WOTC I don’t think it should be a cause to object to something already made.

USA will have two tanks also.
Does the also at the end of this sentence mean the USA will have two tanks and two fighters?!

RE: Technology is a bad strategic investment
I meant that from Southern Italy USA could build an airbase and take all of the Balkan states, not Baltic. Also I think Germany spending 15 IPC on an airbase turn 2 is a fine idea. Allows their fighters to reach Soviet Union and still be in position to defend the European coast. Transports can never move 4 spaces unless I have seriously misread the rulebook. I think you are just sour on tech. Germany rolling improved mech is a killer. Sure artillery will upgrade the attack to 2 as well but artillery cant move 2 spaces a turn. Mechanized infantry for a well played Germany is a game breaker and Moscow will fall. Also US will almost always buy tech tokens and when they finally have shipyards and some of the air techs the axis are hard pressed to win. You don’t have to like tech allweneedislove, nice name by the way I love the Beatles, but I think in a dice game where luck is always a factor, if you are feeling lucky it is a good idea.

RE: Dusting off Operation:Hollywood..Will kill America first be an option like inAAR
Sounds like an interesting plan. I just think that if Japan ignores UK and Anzac they have no income seeing as all the money in Pacific is around DEI/Southeast Asia. Also, Germany is going to get raped by Russia if it doesn’t pay attention. Russia will be a beast invading Eastern Poland with a huge stack. And if you spend all of Germany’s money on ships for this invasion, Russia will take Germany R5. It only has a minor IC. And even if you reconquer Germany form West Germany Russia will take it again and pillage your economy twice.

Point taken. I personally would not attempt Sea Lion without rolling paratroopers on G1. On a separate note, I think people would not misunderstand you as much if you phrased your responses less tersely/aggressively.

RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?
As an upset consumer, make your point to WOTC. They don’t read this forum. This is a forum for players. You may have to call them, email them, or write them an angry letter. But insulting fellow players on an internet forum will not help anything.

RE: Technology is a bad strategic investment
Well a transport cost 7IPC and must be defended by a fleet or else it gets sunk forever. My point was additional support for Sealion. Why are you so testy MaherC?

RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?
Tell you what internet tough guy, you win a Super Bowl, 3 NFL MVPs and earn 100s of millions of dollars and I’ll make a game as good as LH’s. Oh? you can’t play in the NFL? But you can still have an opinion about a player in it? Funny, you said I can’t say these games are garbage and LH has lost his touch according to your rules unless I myself can do better…
Pay 350 for a game that actually works? You got it. Some of us aren’t using our allowances here. Paid $100 for AA50, $160+ for these 2 games, silly me for expecting MORE from G40 (touted as the MOSTUS EXPECKUS GAMEZ OF 4X!S n 4||i3Z EVUR! by all the fanboys).
I said you could complain. The quote is “Everyone has a right to b**** but some people on here are way past that point and are simply beating a dead horse,” I guess you understood who it was directed at. My point was you could continue to whine and complain on this forum, but that it was silly, useless, and in the end not constructive or helpful to anyone but your ego. If you hate the game return it man. And ya, I don’t have an allowance I’m a grown man MaherC. I bought this game with my own money. Thanks for the insult though. Just proving my point when I said “Stop insulting people and whining.” May I ask why are you picking fights with people on an internet forum for a board game?

RE: Technology is a bad strategic investment
Paratroopers – the bestest and super most fun idea. but the worst of the 12 techs. Can someone actually find a way to take advantage of this rule laden technology? Here are the steps
1 you must control a territory within 3 spaces of your target
2 you must have or build an airbase
3 you must get 2infantry to that airbase
4 you must position other non paratrooper land units to also get to your targetThere is no power that can take advantage of this technology.
I think you need to reconsider this statement. If you look at the map this is the most useful technology in the game. With Germany u can use France to help Sealion, West Germany to reinforce Russian advance, and if you build an airbase in Germany, Romania with a minor IC, or both it can help crush Russia by beefing up your stacks with 4-6 inf a round. Not to mention you will crush Allied landings in most of Europe as long as you have a force in France to respond with.
With England you can harass Germany everywhere in the Atlantic. With the US, after crushing Southern Italy you can take the Baltic States and practically assure the fall of France. Russia can use it to help counterattack Germany/get troops to China to face a rowdy Japan. I think the only powers to which it is useless are Japan, ANZAC, China, and France -
RE: Why were there only 3 play-test games for Global?
I agree with gamerman and yoper. I think its very obvious, especially if any of you have worked for or with a corporation, that quality does not matter 1% as much as meeting deadlines and maximizing profit margins. Short of Larry Harris totally producing his own game (the cost to him would be gargantuan and guess what, it would be passed on to you the consumer who is already complaining about buying a game priced at $180, imagine buying one at $350-$500). If you don’t like the game, you have two options. 1. Contact WOTC or the store which you bought it, vent your grievances, and demand a return. 2. Channel your anger into something constructive, like the project to attempt to balance the game. Everyone has a right to bitch but some people on here are way past that point and are simply beating a dead horse. I think Global 40 is balanced OOB and the “alpha setup” makes for a similarly balanced games as well (for the record I’ve played 6 games of Global so far 3 oob, 1 with the air force reduction change, and 2 with alpha). If you’re so sure Larry Harris is like Brett Favre (who sucks and is an egotistical baby) I dare you to create a better game that can actually be sold on a mass scale like Axis and Allies. Return your game or help fix it. Stop insulting people and whining.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
FMG is there a ballpark figure you can give us on when these Italian pieces are going to be available to pre-order and how long from then till we have them in our hands? I’m just getting OCD about it and checking everyday now.
-
RE: How many sets of FMG pieces will you buy
Don’t worry guys, I’m fairly confident we will meet the quota to continue the project. The support and response to this has been phenomenal during the entire process.
If we ever get to a point where it is just not working out I will let you know. Once these are released the only thing I ask is that you all spread the word on the other gaming boards…
I personally will tell every single AA gamer and ww2 modeler I know about these sets. Thank you so much for just attempting to make this happen.

RE: FMG American Pieces
Awesome!!! I desperately want at least one fighter, hopefully two, to replace those P-38s. Id like to see either a P-40 or P-51, and if they make two then I’d like to see the Corsair as well (maybe make the corsair the tactical bomber?). My thinking is, the tactical bomber made by WOTC, Dauntless, is already a pacific theater plane so I think the FMG fighter, if there is only one, should be something used in Europe. Id like to see some LCM 3’s as transports (maybe the can be sculpted to actually load units inside them!). I know there has been a lot of talk of not repeating pieces WOTC has made, but I want an FMG Sherman with a moving turret! Maybe it can have something cool added onto it like homemade armor or hedgerow cutters to separate it from WOTC pieces (or it could be a late model like those used in Europe), although judging from the Italian sculpts I think the added detail and rotating turrets will be enough. I want a B-17 as well, most used bomber in the war. I’d like the B-24 to be the transport plane/alternate bomber since the transport planes are sort of useless in AAG1940 due to new paratrooper rules. Or maybe it could be made the tactical bomber? As for mechanized infantry, I’m on the fence between between an M3 or M5 and a Jeep like the Bantam with a mounted .50 cal. I know the M series half tracks makes more sense as mechanized infantry but the US jeeps are so iconic. Or maybe they can do both! Making one half tracks and the other trucks? Personally I’d rather see both of those than one and a supply truck. Also I don’t know where it would fit (Italy has 2 tanks tough), but a M18 Hellcat, M10 Wolverine, or M7 Priest would be awesome. I personally don’t really care for the Pershing, it was such a late war vehicle. The whole US armor philosophy was light to medium tanks supplemented by tank destroyers and mobile artillery so I think it makes a lot of sense to include at least one of those vehicles. I cant wait for the US set!!!

RE: Thank you Larry!
I agree, despite it’s tiny flaws and unproportionate criticism from some, Best. Game. Ever. This game is huge, awesome, and full of new ideas and units. Job well done. Thank you.

FMG American Pieces
Does anybody know if the next set after the Germans is going to be the US? Ive read that some think it will be Japan but I’m starting this post to maybe influence the US coming next. Axis already have 2 sets in production. Any ideas on what pieces FMG should make for the US set?

RE: Alternate setup by Larry Harris?
I think its great that Larry and players are willing to fix the setup and I really appreciate the time Larry, Kreig, and everyone else play testing the setup changes has put in so far. I love Axis and Allies games, and this 1940 game is so huge, epic, and full of potential that I’m willing to test a few different set-ups. If the game had been delayed for further playtesting people would’ve complained on here about missing release dates and such. You cant please everyone. Just wanted to add my 2 cents.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
Is the optional rule in Europe allowing German subs to disrupt convoys for 3 IPC instead of 2 IPC allowed to be used in Global? Also, does the Super Sub tech allow subs to disrupt convoys at 3 IPC instead of 2 IPC?

RE: Alternate setup by Larry Harris?
Thanks for the quick response and welcome guys. I will continue to faithfully play test each set-up, and hopefully there will be something official and final soon.

RE: AAG40 FAQ
Thanks for that answer guys James, 13th, and Kreig. This forum is really useful. I’m glad I finally registered so I can ask all my silly questions.

RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion thread
Cool reloader-1. I checked your post and I think i may end up buying those to hold me off until FMG releases theirs. And 4-6 weeks would be cool Rorschach, I only wish they could all be magically ready today! Thanks for the quick responses guys. Everyone on this entire forum has been real helpful.
