    • RE: Help: Setup for Short Beginner Game?

Thanks for your input! I ran A&A (three different versions) today and it went pretty smoothly. I’m looking forward to trying the Global 1942 setup next time I play!

The class session will be (weather permitting) February 28 (about a week and a half). I should have time to set up- I get in to the office at 7:30 and class is at 10.

If you’re interested in reading about my class, I’ve been blogging it at boardgamegeek.

Technically, I could run it over multiple sessions but at the cost of something else. I’d prefer to stick to one class session.

    • RE: Help: Setup for Short Beginner Game?

I have 15 students in the class, so I’m running three tables: one with my old Milton Bradley set (intermediate), one with the university game lab’s A&A 1941 set (beginners), and one with 1940 Global (expert). I don’t expect to finish- I just want them to taste it….

      Please help!
I’m teaching a college course on games and I’d like to use my Global 1940 set. Unfortunately, I know from experience that played out of the box it will be far too long for our 2-hour class session. Would anyone be willing to design a setup that depicts a game in progress or a delayed start that would 1. give a good game experience for all players (US, UK, GE/IT, JP) and 2. allow a reasonable exposure to the game in 2 hours.
      Any takers? Please help!

    • RE: Axis biased

I played a solo game that ended after 6 rounds with an Axis victory (Moscow/London, with Japan holding Alaska and threatening the USA). The Soviets did have some bad dice rolls when defending Moscow and swapped their capital back and forth with Germany a couple times before being completely wiped off the board, so I wonder if their “gift” of IPCs to Germany was strategically sound. The USA lost its entire fleet (with the exclusion of two transports in the Atlantic), so Japan parked carriers off the coast of California. It seemed too easy for the Axis side, although I’m not the sharpest strategist.

That’s what I thought but I couldn’t find a citation to back it up.

    • RE: Any way to play without NO's?

“Taranto Raid” refers to the November 1940 assault by the United Kingdom on the Italian navy, docked at Taranto.

It’s often used on this forum to describe a first-turn attack by the UK on Italy’s Mediterranean fleet.

    • RE: First Global game coming this weekend!

I might be in the same boat (7-8 players). I thought it might be interesting to split the UK east-west and pair the two UK players London-France and India-China.

      1. Germany
      2. USSR
      3. UK-London; France
      4. UK-India; China
      5. Italy
      6. ANZAC
      7. Japan
      8. USA

    • RE: G40 plans

I already have the last weekend in September reserved- between one’s wedding, my baby, a job search, and the new school year, my group is pretty busy. We’re slated to start Friday night, play until we have to sleep, then resume Saturday morning, and then finish Sunday after church if we have to.

When my copy of Europe arrives, I’ll play through it (possibly by myself) as soon as possible.
