artillery is very important for attacking opponents, 6 infantry attack at 6@1 at a cost of 18, while 3 artillery, 3 infantry attack at 6@2 at a cost of 21,
for defensive reinforcement infantry are the obvious choice, i always build artillery and infantry at a 50/50 ratio, when attacking with 10 infantry, 4 artillery is a great back up, because the attack would be 6@1 8@2, and when casualties are counted the 4 artillery still increases the infantry attack to the last unit, for large scale attacks a ratio of 33% is a good build to attack land units, if there are fighters defending, armor would be needed to increse the overall attack strenght,
building too much artillery is counter productive, I.P.C. could be used to build armor and fighters when too much artillery are purchased,
a player needs just 50% infantry, 50% artillery to get the highest attack values,
and if a player has advanced artillery the need for artillery decreases to 33% to get the highest attack values,

RE: How long should a game go for?posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
a game could go for a long time, when i started playing, the first few games took 10 - 12 hours,
after getting familiar with the set-up and rules, a game usually goes for 4 -6 hours -
RE: Where to build allied I.C.posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
manchuria is a good option to build a base to attack russia, it frees the pacific transport fleet to attack the other islands,
and attack india or the u.s.the east indies and borneo are not good territories to build a I.C. the building of transport, units, and battleships are too costly, and when they are sunk by u.s. and u.k. fleets, there would be a constant rebuild of transports to launch attacks,
a east indies I.C. could break the bank of the japan player, after building the I.C. the japan player would have to defend it, or else it could be easily captured by the u.k. or the u.s. and used to build aircraft carriers and fighters, i could see a east indies I.C. takeover being beneficial to the u.s. player, with that the u.s. would be behind the enemy line, and could attack japan from everywhere at the pacific -

RE: A New Bidding Systemposted in 1941 Scenario
i think that without the natioinal objectives, germany would have a tough time trying to take russia and hold off the u.k. at the same time, for the 42’ scenario no national objectives might be more reasonable, or collecting national objectives at every second turn,
if germany goes too far toward russia, the u.k. can build up relatively uncontested to the west, and if germany fails to defend against that threat, the u.k. can usually get to france or northwest europe, which means that germany has to
re-group and fall back from the eastern front,
unless japan is advancing toward russia, germany can not attack russia and keep out the u.k. at the same time,
that is where italy can make a difference, if italy concentrates their effort toward the middle east and africa, that would eat into the u.k. I.P.C. count and free up the german and japanese formations to more advanced attacking tactics, japan would have more I.P.C. to build a pacific fleet, and germany could look toward attacking the u.k. the u.k. would need defense from the u.s. and would have to wait until the u.s. would build a atlantic fleet to get to france, which in turn would draw I.P.C away from a u.s. pacific fleet,
there is nowhere that i can see from the 41’ scenario set-up that the allies need a bid,
i do not think that the axis need a bid, the strategies to use when playing the axis may be less obvious and more planning may be needed, although with some good advances at the opening rounds, the allies advantage of more time and resources to expend strategy wise can be turned around -
RE: Where to build allied I.C.posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
manchuria is the obvious territory for japan to build a I.C. the east indies would also be a prime target for a I.P.C. hungry japan player to launch atacks to the west, how can the u.k. and russia stop a determined japan player from gobbling up all the pacific islands, the middle east, and russia

wow, those sculpts look impressive, how many fighters does the carrier hold, i have some house rules that allow carriers to carry 3 fighters, are they exactly to the scale of wotc pieces,
i have been looking through my axis and allies game pieces, and have found nothing to compare to those sculpts,
although the pictures of the sculpts are not clear, they appear of a very high manufacturing standard,
if i walked into a shop and found those i would purchase a set -

i would think that batman would beat rosharch and night owl, with or without the question for back up,
batman has defeated the joker, mr freeze, cat woman, the scarecrow, the list is endless,i have never heard of sage, although he seems like a crafty character, exposing criminals to toxic gas, and getting them to do his bidding

brazil, egypt, south africa, norway, western canada, czech/hungary, borneo, the balkans,
they are all possibilities,
it is possible for the axis to get to 14 victory cities, although the 15th is the tough one , they have to take london, washington, ottawa or los angeles, even moscow is tough to break without japan joining in,
the balance of victories leans toward the allies for a 12 or 15 victory city game,
this is just a suggestion, i have not played enough AA50 games to determine the full extent of the allied advantage,
it is possible for the axis to win, it is more challenging to play the axis, :-) -
RE: A New Bidding Systemposted in 1941 Scenario
i do not think that the total war game has a imbalance, the imbalance occurs when playing a 12 or 15 victory city game, if the axis do not make great advances within 7 round’s the advantage swing’s greatly toward the allies,
i would like to see the addition of / egypt / czech/hungary / south africa / and 2 - 3 more victory cities,
and national objectives could be a victory condition -

i have never known of a submarine aircraft carrier,
i could comprehend a out of range aircraft carrier that could fly aircraft to a battle, although with search technology opposing fighters could seek and engage these out of range carriers and fighters,i like the nuke idea, although it looks overpowered, if 1 player rolls rockets or high altitude bombers it would be game over for the opponents,
is there a secondary cost to nukes, rather than just having the tech and using nukes to knock all opponents out of the game,i think that nukes should have a high I.P.C. cost, 30 - 40 I.P.C.

that is a very alluring offer,
when can i expect to see sample’s of the market place product,
i would think that a project of this scale would take month’s to complete,
have the pieces been sculpted yet, i would think that the factory would need a large order for a set that includes up to 100 different sculpts,
i would be happy to invest in such a project,
however, i would prefer to see some ground work before i would invest,
what i would like to have in place before i would invest would be a estimate of the number of investors,
if the interest was sufficient, the project could be guaranteed by the pre-order, if there were enough interested would-be investors the crediting of the project would be less of a risk, and that would save a lot of work to refund the investors if the cost of the project could not be achieved,
i am not one to credit something without a guarantee of a refund, or a finished product,
i.e. a new set of boardgame pieces,
i think that it is a great project, and i hope that it is successful,
i would think that there are thousands of board gamers who would jump at the opportunity to have a finely detailed, durable, and classy set of pieces manufactured to a high standard,
i checked out the dice at field marshall games, correct me if i am wrong, i think that the russia dice were pink,
i would not buy pink toy soldiers, and to have to paint them would be a chore, one set painted, the other set not,
i would not be one to pay $59.99 for a finished marketplace product and have to spend 1-2 years painting the pieces before i could play with them,
i am not a good miniature painter -

RE: Is the new "Lord of the Rings" RISK any good???posted in Other Games
the edition that i have is from 2003, parker brothers, it has a ring made of pewter, the first edition had a cardboard cut-out picture of a ring, and the map did not have the territories of mordor, gondor, and harondor,
i would like to find a copy of the expansion, the new sculpts are of the ent, men of gondor, warg riders, and the uruk-hai,
the new sculpts would fit in well with the house rules, the armies of men and elves, with the ent and giant eagles for monsters, the army of the uruk-hai, and the leader tokens for the fellowship, witch king, sauron, and saruman,
i have no models of warships, or transport ships, wooden blocks for siege machines, and roundels for artillery,
i can post the rules, if there is interest -
RE: Re: Field Marshal Games Pieces Project Discussion threadposted in Other Axis & Allies Variants
if the project is a success, would there be one print of these pieces, or would the sets be available at the field marshall games website

RE: Is the new "Lord of the Rings" RISK any good???posted in Other Games
yeah, i have the first edition, and the trilogy, the expansion is almost impossible to find for less than $150 - $200,
the sculpt’s for the expansion are cool, i think that they still stock the first edition at a local shop, the expansion was never released, i searched the internet for the rulebook and cards for the battle for minas tirith, with no luck -

RE: Is the new "Lord of the Rings" RISK any good???posted in Other Games
lotr risk is good, i have developed a new rule set, and set-up, with 5 classes of land units, and 2 classes of sea units,
heroes, the ring, if the evil side capture the ring, they get re-inforcements and sauron enters the fray with superpowers,
the object for the good side is to get the ring to mount doom, and the evil side have to capture the ring, and all strongholds, it is a very simple ruleset, with no board modifications, saruman, the witch king and the nazgul are represented, also the fellowship and faramir, the hobbits are represented by 1 hero token,
the set-up is a general overview of the forces throughout the story, and re-inforcements are placed each round at strongholds that can hold 7 re-inforcements, or power sites that can hold 2 re-inforcements, all other territories are worth 1, and can not be re-inforced, there are infantry, artillery, cavalry, monster’s, siege machines, warships, and transport ships -
