So here’s a WWII related ethics problem:
During WWII, German “scientists” (ugh i hate that using that word here) did a number of horrific experiments on children including twins. The “research” has been conducted, the children are dead, and we are still trying to eliminate the last vestiges of Nazi-ism.
Question. How can we most ethically apply that research and why?
      possible solutions include:

      1. Disregard all of it as it is bred of evil minds.
      2. Disregard it as it likely can not be trusted
      3. I don’t know
      4. Many children were “sacrificed” for this knowledge - it would be wrong to not use/apply it
      5. Other . . .
(this was brought up - briefly - in an ethics tutorial)

i also found that as people get to know the game better and the moves, etc, then the turns go a little quicker. People get to thinking ahead a little more, rather than reacting, and they stop asking “hold on, can i do this . . . ?”.

      umm . . . FinsterniS, i really hope you’re kidding. in case you’re not . . .
Although i realize that satire and sarcasm do not play out in this medium very well, i had hoped that given my earlier post that the views i submitted recently would be viewed as nothing short as ridiculous and (i’d hoped) amusing.
      Bad Crypt.
From now on, i will assume as little as possible about the readership.
I was joking! I am still against capital punishment. It would probably take more than a cartoon show to change my mind at this point. I was trying to instill some levity into otherwise heavy topics. (Yanny, if this is forbidden, please let me know). I certainly hope that the other readers did not take me seriously (especially the intelligent ones . . . ).

just for the record, did anyone else take me seriously?

i don’t mind there belifes but keep your belifes to your selves and don’t try to push it on other people.

of course there’s a bit of a paradox to this statement in that inherent to the JW’s belief system is that they must Witness (tell others about their faith). I am sometimes ashamed of myself. I’m quick to espouse the great pizza’s made by Santa Lucia’s, or the hottest latest Athlon chip etc., but i do not share my faith very often with others. There is a difference between “sharing one’s faith” and “pushing it on them”. I mean, myself and a couple of others have been quite vocal in expressing our beliefs. Do you feel that we pushed these on you? Now if i tied you on a chair, put a sock in your mouth and preached at you, that might be different (and not very Christian of me).
Evidence, I guess, that these things are all relative. I have a friend who is quite evangelical. The JW’s avoid him like the plague

and then the American people all get a chance to use the guns that they own when the gov’t/American army tries to enforce these laws. hooray.

well, after watching The Simpsons tonight, i’ve done a one-eighty on my original stance against the death penalty. It took TV to show me that not only might the death penalty be useful, however it may well prove entertaining as well. I think that given the dreck that is network television, the death penalty could really liven things up. And i’m sure that a network such as Fox could give it that wholesome yet artistic appeal that the other networks fail to do. Plus if Carmen Electra is involved (the real one - not the cartoon one), then that would be a show with everything!

i’m curious - does anyone know the gun-legislation up here in Canada? i mean, there’s gotta’ be something, or is Xi right? 'cuz there are a lot fewer slayings with guns here on a per pop basis (i.e. compare Toronto or Winnipeg to cities of equal pops).
at any rate dezrtfish, that’s crazy. home invasions with bulletproof jackets.
mind you - my uncle was the ambassador to Columbia, and he went around with his own little army, so i can understand the need in some circumstances.

to take a knife to the throat of an innocent, likely unwilling, screaming and squirming child
to hold it tight in my arms as the cruel cold blade made it’s fumbling way across the pink skin of her throat
to watch the blood spray from her carotids as she slumps to the ground
      gasping for her last breath.
to save all of the children, parents and grandparents from disease.

      Wow,
it’s lucky you have that ak-47. I mean, what happens if you get broken into and you can’t find any of your other guns? Well, at least you have the ol’ AK-47 handy.
Naturally all of those other guns will come in handy when the American Army invades . . . America?
There’s something wrong with this picture. Shouldn’t Canadians be arming themselves in case the American army invades Canada?
is it just me, or is this a little excessive and weird?

      1. Although i now loosely follow the religion of my parents, it required several years of assessment, research and introspection. Naturally my parents had some influence on my decision in ways i do not know, however my sisters and i are fiercely independent people, and any apparent pressure would provoke a very strong reaction in the opposite direction. I believe i have a relationship with my Lord Jesus Christ, and that is something that is difficult to disguard. As for my denomination, it seems to most closely follow Jesus’ teachings and the early church (i know everyone says that). At the same time, I am a pacifist, i believe in a “believer’s baptism”, and a “simple” Christian walk.
      2. I am a Mennonite - an Anabaptist - kind of like Baptists, except usually a little more sedate, pacifists, and many of us have a strong ethnic heritage as well - much like the Jews (nomadic existance, leaving countries of persecution for our beliefs etc.)
      3. I believe that there is beauty in all religions, Christian and otherwise. Probably some truth as well (Hinduism, for example, is a brilliant social experiment, if not a religion - who wouldn’t want to build Karma for the next life?). At the same time they all are missing a vital ingredient - a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Oh, and i can understand agnosticism - that makes sense to me. I was one briefly, and i can understand that some people are searching. Atheism i have more of a problem with, but that might be an appropriate “other discussion”
        thanks for enduring the windyness

      ahhh i see. now.
i had this same argument with my Catholic friends all the time. I just bypassed Mary and the saints and prayed directly to the big guy. In retrospect i understand that by venorating Mary one would venorate her son even more, but i agree with you on this point. Please note tho’, that this is a Catholic thing (i’m not sure about high Anglicans or Coptic’s), and definitely does not apply to other denominations (this was one reason i was pulled out of Catholic school i believe - that and i kept getting into fights . . . not good for a Mennonite boy)I also am not sure about that whole “going without meat” thing, although i believe it is a sacrifice to honor Jesus’ sacrifice on Good Friday.
Although i don’t have any problems with Catholic theology, you might look at Anabaptist theology as there was little added or taken away from the original Acts church to compare.

I’m still working on my 3 reasons,
but HFW, i’m wondering. How do the ideals of Christianity conflict with the 10 commandments? I understood that they “enhanced” them, if anything.
