      Yeah, I modified my strat after the Doolittle raid  :-D. That’s why I left the DD out of combat. But, don’t forget, there were some repercussions that weren’t immediately apparent to either of us. Namely, the US lost half it’s fighters and the bomber. Because of that, Germany retained air superiority for most of the game and it allowed them to hold off the Allies until Japan rebuilt.

      If Japan doesn’t clear sz59, there will be 2 BB, 1 CV, 3 TP, 1 SS in sz60 and you can shift a fighter there, as well, if the sz45 SS is sunk.

      If Japan clears sz59 without loss, sz60 will have 1 CV, 2 fig, 1 DD, 1 SS, 3 TP. Against 1 bmb, 2 fig, 1 CV, 1 SS the average result is 4 surviving japanese units. A greener player might take the TP’s as losses but, as more advanced players, we can see the obvious advantage of losing 1 fig, 1 DD, 1 SS, 1 TP and leaving 1 fig, 1 CV, 2 TP to preserve the bulk of Japan’s landing force especially since the US will have just sacrificed more than half of it’s current offensive firepower in the Pacific. No matter what the US builds on it’s turn, after that combat, Japan will still retain naval superiority and have $38 to respond with.

      If the sz45 SS is sunk, you can also shift the strat and send the DD to sz59 and hold back the sz60 BB instead if you’re concerned about a US strike. Plus, building the TP’s in sz61 is still an option no matter how J1 plays out. I just see building in sz61 as Japan’s way of setting itself back a turn so I try to avoid it if at all possible. Getting Japan out of the gate at full speed is always first priority to me.

      You defined 10 possible selections so the odds of any single selection is 1/10.

      You defined the possible selections as three 0’s, four 1’s and three 2’s.

      This means the odds of selecting a 0 is 3/10 or 30% in a single draw.  For a 1 it is 4/10 or 40% and for a 2 it is 3/10 or 30%.

      You then specify two draws with replacement between the draws.

      Finally, you requested the sum of the two draws equal or exceed “3”.

      The possible results of the two draws are (x,y) where x is the first draw and y is the second draw.

      These possible results are (0,0); (0,1); (0,2); (1,0); (1,1); (1,2); (2,0); (2,1); (2,2).

      The only results you are interested in are (1,2); (2,1) and (2,2).

      These are (0.4 * 0.3) + (0.3 * 0.4) + (0.3 *0.3)

      This equals 0.12 + 0.12 + 0.09 or 0.33 which is 33%.

      i’m not sure when excatly i’ll do the german forces but should be soon. the russsians should be done except for the 2nd aorborne division. the use 2-IL while teh only planes russia had are the 10-IL. not sure if i should just count them as a half of 10-IL. it look slike there is aproxximently 150 air units (this is just a guess based on the size of a divison). that would be 3 10-IL if you divide by 54. but if they are not counted to there fullest extent then the could have 1, 2 or 3 airplanes. i’m thinking 2 10-ILs(if any at all)

      Yes.

      An amphibious invasion only requires the sea zone it is being launched from to be cleared of enemy units.

      If the Brits leave the English Channel empty, Operation Sealion is one step closer to success.  It does not matter if every other sea zone on the map has enough allied ships to fill the ocean, all that matters is the English Channel has no defending units.

      For this discussion, submerged submarines do not count as opposing units.  Fighters do, even if their CV is sunk.

      It hits weak tanks from a distance and destroys them. They are basically strong japanese artillery. You could overwelm enemy tanks with the HA-GO, but will never destroy an easy 8 or something better.
