      @barney:

      @StuckTojo:

      I saw “WWII” and “bomb” in the heading and thought this was a thread about the Pearl Harbor movie with Ben Affleck.   :-D

      Heh heh.  :lol: It was kinda cheesy but had some good spots.

      When the movie came out it generated a lot of discussion, in various history-related forums, about its historical accuracy (or lack thereof).  One commentator sarcastically noted that he had carefully checked the roundels of the aircraft that were attacking Pearl Harbor and that he had been pleased by the accuracy of the fact that they were Japanese roundels rather than British ones.

      I find them easier and more accurate to throw to a certain spot.

      I once watched an english movie where bank robber used the M24 to break their way through.

      @Caesar:

      The problem with Commando’s in terms of usage of a board game is that they are technically irregular infantry. So I play an online AnA type game called Superpowers where the special unit in that game, the commando works like an artillery piece that can attack on its own, so it goes into the territory, does it attack and if they defender doesn’t kill it, it returns to the territory it came from but it can’t take territory ever because it is programmed like artillery.

      Yep

      Commando (2 Max on map ) in AA game can move 6 spaces on land or sea and make a 1 time attack per round each on any piece with a no defense shot. If it stays then it can be attacked or if it has movement left it can leave territory its in and move out.

      Or I have in UKs event card deck,  1 card saying any 2 Commandos on map can do a Raid attack with the above rule.

      Heaven forbid. Time to JAZZ up these games !!!

      Just saw that. The Sullivan Brother’s ship found on St Patrick’s Day. Too awesome. Thanks CWO.

      Monty Python got some good alliterative mileage out of that term in their movie “And Now For Something Completely Different.”  One sequence in the movie is a fake WWII British newsreel, in black and white, with suitably bombastic narration that includes the opening line “Yes, the war against the Hun continues – and as Britian’s brave boys battle against the Boche…”  By the standards of genuine WWII newsreels, that’s actually not as over-the-top as it sounds to modern ears.  And during a real WWII deception operation, the fake letter from General Nye to General Alexander which was the centrepiece of the “Mincemeat” disinformation scheme used such phrases as “We have had recent information that the Boche have been reinforcing and strengthening their defences in Greece and Crete…”

      I’ve played monopoly with 2 boards side by side and can’t build any hotels. You need doubles rolled to jump from board to board.

      I haven’t played this in a while. Maybe my group missed something. It always seemed to me thought that France could easily hold its coast while running over Austria and even Prussia if necessary and then slowly over power Russia since they are making so much money at that point. I always found that Britain’s only chance was to try to run through Spain and hopefully do it faster than France gets through Prussia and Austria, then kill France from both sides. However, it has been a while and my opponents tended to also make major mistakes so that could have lead to me finding this game very one sided.

      Cheers!

      I have glued together 6 chips to make the stack, primed + painted, then added turf/grass on top, and last the painted piece. I didn’t want to use something that could be confused with units in the game, so i chose some random colors…

      The nations roundel is fairly quick to paint, and once you get the technique right (holding brush + type of brush) its easy. My global units set is just over 1600 pieces, all have nations markers :)

      The large piece where you place all your units is made of a wooden disc, with speck/filler + turf/grass + some “realistic water” (transparent acrylic medium, basically paint with no color/pigment)

      @CWO:

      if the Imperial War Museum still operates its “Blitz Experience” feature (if I recall the name correctly), I recommend it.

      Didn’t see it when I went there last summer, but I might just have missed it.

      In the last months of World War Two, Nazi Germany tested an experimental fighter more spaceship than aircraft. Only now are we realising how inspired it was. BBC Future looks at the Horten Ho 229, one of aviation’s most futuristic designs.

      Risk taught us when we were young that Irkutsk and Yakutsk are like the North and South Dakota of Soviet Russia.  Have you not visited the region of Kamchatka before–by traveling on a bold line via Alaska?  We all know that bold lines can support gigantic armies.
