    • RE: Soviet 1942 strategy.

      Don’t know whether it has been posted or not, but here is MY opening. I buy 2 inf 2 art 2 arm.

      3 inf Kar to Bel
      3 inf Arc to Bel
      2 inf 1 fig Cau to Ukr
      1 bom Rus to Ukr
      1 inf 1 art 1 arm Cau to Euk
      3 inf 1 art 2 arm Rus to Euk
      1 arm Arc to Euk

      If I have a bid greater than 5, I throw 1 inf Egy, and 1 inf (or more) into either Cau or Rus. Those units attack Euk as well. I place 2 inf 2 arm in Cau, 2 art in Rus, with 2 inf Nov coming into Russia. Bomber and Fighter of Ukr for Cau.

    • NO and their importance for strategy

      Everyone loves the KGF strategy. There is little naval war, and people admire the 40-50 Russian monster, as well as the reduced logistics and planning involved. Reinforce Russia with Great Britain, take Africa with America, and destroy the German war machine by taking Scandinavia, bombing her to smithereens, and threatening her key ground.

      One problem. Money. We cannot destroy Germany/Italy before Japan becomes too powerful. The key here is National Objectives. Observe.

      United Kingdom has two NO’s in the Pacific. I say this because containing the Pacific is key to containing the Mediterranean, and with it, Africa. Africa alone is worth 13 IPC, and the Middle East is worth 4-7, if you include Burma. Throw in the NO, and its worth over 25 IPC for Gbr, and that much for Italy and Japan.

      To the Pacific, the United States has three of her four NO’s in this frontier. That’s 15 IPC, as well as all her assets that can reasonably be challenged are located there. Her Atlantic is (usually) secure, but her Pacific is home to another world power that isn’t her ally, Japan.

      Obviously, all of Japan’s money comes from the Pacific, and a simple campaign from the Allies to the south, just north of Australia, will cripple her, forcing a loss of two NO’s, and 9-13 IPC. That’s over 20 IPC loss from Japan, and a 20 IPC gain for the Allies.

      One thing is obvious from all this. Japan needs to be stopped, and Great Britain MUST defend her assets. Canada and Great Britain are only worth 12 IPC, and seeing a 25 IPC Britain isn’t a rare event. Compare this to a 35-45 IPC Britain, and the “extra 10-15 IPC blown” in India doesn’t seem too bad, because its money that otherwise wouldn’t be there. Forcing myself to spend money when I’d otherwise not have it doesn’t seem blown to me.

      I’m not suggesting anything, but simply saying that keeping Japan at bay makes Britain’s life easier, and Russia need only focus on Germany, not all three Axis.

    • RE: 2011 Find League Opponents Here

      You MUST have a bid in 1941! I’m sorry, but there is no alternative. If you think you can do without, please download this map and see an opening that has gone against me. What to do?

      How do you counter this? Russia was quite well played, but Japan is set to become a monster already!

      @hobo:

      Looking for a 3 game series, preferably vs someone I haven’t played yet who can post withing 1-2 days. Standard stuff like +NO -TECH, no optionals, dice for sides on first game, and the loser chooses sides for next game with same parameters.

      bidding?

      Another clarification please (sorry, this is my first year in an online league, really exciting and pretty intense). Optional Rules?

      Tech is fine. We can start now. If it isn’t okay, we’ll just stop. If it is, then we’re good to go ;)

      I suggest immediately. Unsticky this thread, make a summary thread with the rules, and a second and third thread for looking for opponents in each respective league. I’m starting right here.

      1st league:
      Anyone up for a '41 game? I’ll play Allies with a 9 IPC bid.

      2nd league
      Anyone up for a '42 game? I’ll play Allies with a 7 IPC bid.

      To say the least, I’ll have difficulties getting to you, seeing as I have yet to ‘come of age,’ and obviously am hesitant to meet you, for whatever purposes. In any case, any playing will be quite rare (re: once per year), but I will definitely try to set a date to meet you and spend a stormy afternoon showing you the meaning of blitzkrieg!

    • RE: Ship IPC values

      I think that lowering the price on the cheap ships while leaving the heavy plowers the same will make them obsolete. People already don’t get BB’s very often. Causing the shift to be deeper would make it worse.

      Maybe:
      SS = 5
      TP = 5
      DD = 7
      CA = 10
      CV = 13
      BB = 16

      Aircraft:
      fig = 10
      tac = 10
      bom =12

    • RE: Any good gifts?

      Either you guys are all dead wrong or I live in an extremely sheltered world. I have only had one divorce within my knowledge of people I know. And that number of people that I know and am on good relations with is in the several hundreds, spread across Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and Australia.

      Marriage is a commitment of love. Love is a commitment of the heart. We are all naturally selfish and self-centered. Scientists for the life of them cannot understand the concept of beings willing to sacrifice themselves for another, give up things for a loved one. They cannot explain relationships other than mating purposes, family is merely a “physical bond.”

      This society has lost the meaning of love. It’s not all about me. Your needs aren’t important. It’s theirs. If you and your partner are willing to work together, to build each other up, to enjoy one another’s company, to help the other when they’re down, no matter the cost, then you are in love.

      Here is one of the most amazing definitions of love:

      Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

      This is found in 1 Corinthians 13.

      Now, to bring this in a circle back to the original topic. Remember the greatest gift of all. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” John 3. This is the origin of Christmas. Every time you give, you are imitating this. Do it for the same reason.

    • Ship IPC values

      What’s with ships being so much more expensive?

      Here is a comparison:

      MechInf = Destroyer (4-8)
      2-2-2
      Tank = Cruiser (6-12)
      3-3-2
      Infantry = Carrer (3-14)
      1-2-1(2)

      yet the costs are outrageous! A destroyer costs twice as much as mech infantry, a cruiser costs twice as much as a tank. Why? Don’t tell me a couple of cruisers is more expensive than a couple divisions (re: several hundred) of tanks!

      Just because their sea units doesn’t make them all-expensive. Here is a proposal:

      SS = 4 IPC
      TP = 5 IPC
      DD = 6 IPC
      CA = 10 IPC
      CV = 12 IPC
      BB = 16 IPC

      fighter = 9 IPC
      tac bom = 10 IPC
      bom = 12 IPC

      I see no problem with having more sea units out there, and it’d prevent heavy bombers from decimating fleets, as there could easily be a ton of DD out there. Now it makes only a little more sense to attack navies with just aircraft than to attack infantry with just aircraft.

      I see no reason for the sea units (entirely separate from land units) to be way overpriced. It’s simply ridiculous. Now the British and Japanese incomes can be shortchanged, as they don’t need as much to handle big fleets, and the income goes to the fleets, not to massive amounts of Japanese tanks riding the Moscow magnet.

      If Japan had an income of 30-40, Russia with 20-30, Japan couldn’t be such a monster in AA50, could it?

    • RE: Putting those Aircraft to use: Great Britain

      Hmmm… I see your point. Do you think that moving the CUS inf to EUS, and turn 2 moving 2 inf 1 art 1 arm from EUS down to Alg, moving the other 2 up to ECa as planned might start the pressure on Italy early? The CV SZ2 could shift to SZ12 as a guard.

    • RE: Putting those Aircraft to use: Great Britain

      Exactly. Now, on turn 3, I usually surprise my German opponents, since they’ve been eying my fleets, he usually simply stacks France. I’ve seen it where Japanese fighters have landed in France to stop that as well. Coupled with Italian units building up, it’s practically an impregnable fortress. So I merely land my forces in Northwestern Europe. Having 14-16 units on his front door isn’t something positive for the Germans, because they lose 7 IPC from it. (2 terr+5 NO).

      The reason for the T1 CV buy, is to get those American fighters on board in time for T2 movement into SZ6/7. The reason for the SZ3 placement is for the 2 fighters I usually send to destroy the German fleet to land on, as they can’t reach SZ2.

      Also, German air attacks on a loaded CV isn’t always the best option, seeing as you’re pitting air against air, and that German air attack will be a close one. In any case, those German fighters are going to die.

      Which keeps them from the Russian front, and comes at a mere cost of 14 IPC, utilizing your units right off the bat.
