If Hitler had supplied Rommel with what he had requested… namely: another Panzer Division and enough oil and ammo for a three-week campaign of solid driving and fighting, Egypt would have fallen.

Rommel nailed the Americans something fierce in late '42 too, didn’t he? If he actually had support and some supply, he’d have taken out the Brits in Egypt, rolled into the Suez, took Palestine, and then have raced back to Algeria and Libya in time to blow the Americans outta the water.
Man, if Hitler had given him what he wanted, he’d have won the war!

RE: Ontario?posted in Player Locator
Well, I will be getting my license in September, so you can’t really call me too young…
The last thing you can call me is incompetent. I recently played against a 46 year-old who has been playing since the '80s… and I won. It certainly put down his ego, to say the least.

You like lore? Roll in an RP realm, and join a heavy-RP guild. They’ll show you plenty of story-lines. Get into the Outlands and into Northrend, and it’s just one big story-line with a bunch of side steps.

RE: Game imbalance - Look at the Unit IPC totalsposted in 1941 Scenario
My strongest opening against Japan is a R3 attack (R3, not R2!!!) on Manchuria, an Indian complex, two carriers 1 TP 1 arm US1 and a fully loaded carrier and a TP with an inf and art every turn thereafter.
This is usually done with an 8 IPC bid of 1 inf in Burma(yes, in Burma), and 1 arm in Egypt. R1, I consolate my Russian forces in Bry, move 2 inf into Chi, 2-4 inf into Per (depends on how Germany opened), with a 4 armour build in Caucasus. UK1 sees my 2 arm in Egy going with 2 inf in Trj to Per, the fig in Egy to Ind. The 2 inf in Burma CAN be a pretty big deterrent to the usual 1 inf 1 art 1 CA attack therein, and thus I have some 6 British land units and 1 air unit. The Russians can move in to make that up to 14 land units.
The US can force open the south pretty quickly. A strong southern approach as early as US2 forces the Japs to turn around, and gives the mainland to the British.

RE: Can Karelia be held or retaken?posted in 1942 Scenario
Sorry, perhaps I should elaborate a bit more. It is impossible to hold Karelia from a G2 assault, especially if he is determined to take the city. Deadzoning in this way forces him to commit some forces to take the territory, while you can take it back on R2 with some 20 odd units.

RE: Can Karelia be held or retaken?posted in 1942 Scenario
In '41, it is easy to deadzone Karelia, even if he does a massive drive, locating all tanks within reach of Karelia after G1.
Throwing all your land units in Belorussia, and building 6 tanks in Russia means you’ve got 11-13 infantry, 2 art, and 7 arm within reach of Kar, Bst, and EPl.Bel and Cau need to be held strong by the Russians. That way they can focus anywhere on the board. Don’t let Germany decide where the fight is, you decide. It’s your turf, not theirs.

RE: German IPCs (SCARY)posted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
I agree with “I rock.” Why would the EUS have less money than the west?
I’m thinking a 70-80 IPC Eastern United States for a 130-140 IPC total for the States.
That’d be pretty accurate as well.

RE: Europe Map Projection Reduxposted in Axis & Allies Europe 1940
Geography has nothing to do with war except for its impact on tactical and strategical influences in war. The straits of Gibraltar were controlled by Great Britain. Any attempt, either real or virtual, from the Spanish to close the straits based on their own land and armies would have failed disastrously based on Britain’s reactions.
The guns of Gibraltar were the reason the straits were under British control. Those heavies ensured any ship forced between the two landmasses came in range. The geography wasn’t what gave the British control, but the guns.
Any attempt from the Spanish would have been blown out by the British heavies on both fortress and battleship.

RE: World of Warcraftposted in Other Games
I definitely agree. MMORPG’s can definitely get to be mindless repetition. If you loved Warcraft II and III, I think that if you played a bit more, got past level 20, and immersed yourself in the world, especially the lore, you’d love it.
End-game can be more intense than any other genre of game. Nothing beats working with 24 other people in a multi-hour attempt of clearing a dungeon of dragons, undead, demons, elementals, and other such beasties of evil origin and intention.

Of course, I’m not saying that those armor HAVE to head down there, but it DOES give the Japanese a second thought, especially with an American fleet proceeding into their home waters.

RE: NO and their importance for strategyposted in 1941 Scenario
Holding India actually isn’t that difficult. I find absolutely NO difficulty in sending 4 Russian infantry south, with a 6 armour build in Russia to deadzone Karelia.
If Japan sends such a heavy force J1 stationed against India, I have 4 infantry in Caucasus that can move into Persia while the 4 there move into India, giving it a 9 land force advantage. A bid in Egypt usually allows the fighter landing there. While Japan will certainly take India J2, a R3 counterattack of 4 infantry and up to 10 armour leaves Japan in dire straits indeed, especially should they leave the Philippines behind, giving America a 55 IPC US2 buy.
You’re looking at 2 fully loaded CV, a Destroyer, a Battleship and a sub US1, and another loaded carrier and battleship turn 2. That’s 3 carriers, 2 battleships, and a destroyer set for sailing US3. If you’re commiting that much to India, I could even build a TP (prefered, actually) and start taking your NO’s away.
