I was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find a copy of the original Nova version of Axis & Allies, if it is even available.

RE: My Thoughts(Rants?) on Axis & Alliesposted in Axis & Allies Classic
When I said the game was simplistic, I was meant that each nation’s pieces worked exactly the same. There aren’t any National advantages, or special abilities that one nation has & the others don’t (Japanese Destroyers in AAP for example). I maintain though that Classic is the easiest to introduce on new players.

My Thoughts(Rants?) on Axis & Alliesposted in Axis & Allies Classic
At the risk of sounding old & nostolgic, I just wanted to post about how great the Classic A&A is. To this day I pull it out & wage war with it. I enjoy how straightforward, and dare I say, simplistic the game is. Yet, it is amazingly diverse in strategies. It is also by far the easiest to teach to a new player, who then can expand to the other variants of the game. I also praise the durability of the game. I have owned my copy for over 7 years without a single broken/missing piece! So those are my thoughts. You are more than welcome to share your opinions.

RE: Plastic Playing Piecesposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
If nothing else, the original MB Gamemaster pieces still work after years of use & abuse.

RE: Plastic Playing Piecesposted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I agree wholeheartedly that Hasbro/Avalon Hill/Wizards Of The Coast have let the gaming world down by allowing such shoddy pieces to be placed on the market. But I think this stems from the much larger issue of their apathy towards customer service.

RE: Subs still marginalized…by DD this time...posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
If you wanted to do a limited build IC in France for naval units, Xeno games does offer a Sub Pen piece that would work perfectly with your suggestion.

I think the best option is to re-implement Convoy zones/routes that can be disrupted by submarines. Thus the sub can literally cripple the war effort of nations like Britain & Japan.

I have to agree that the original map is very well done. My personal favorite though has to be the European map.

RE: It arrived!posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
Is there a breakdown of the pieces by nation on the back of the box? I heard rumors that there might be. Also, how well does the board sections connect together?

RE: It arrived!posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
I was hoping the Italian fleet in the Med. would help with the supply & defense of North Africa. But with the serious lack of pieces to accomplish this task, all I have to say is that Wizards has really blown it on this one. They need to offer part sets!

RE: It arrived!posted in Axis & Allies Anniversary Edition
My request for future development would be to PLEASE stop incorporating new rules into the game, and stop looking to new “House Rules” as a solution to fix underlying game balance problems. Instead, focus on fine tunning the core gameplay mechanics that already exist (i.e. the stuff that is the same for everyone, throughout the duration of the game.) Consistency, simplicity, and ease of use, should always trump the other considerations, and only give way when an idea seems really innovative and promises to open up new and interesting dimensions to the gameplay.
I couldn’t agree more with Black_Elk.

Has anyone played the Conquest for the Pacific expansion for A&A? If so, I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on it. Thanks!

That is true & must be taken into account when deciding where to deploy your bombers.

RE: Strategic Bombing Raids in Revised…..completely pointlessposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I must admit though that I’m of the mindset that it is better to use your bombers to take out actual units as opposed to possible units. For example, I would use my bombers to take out enemy tranports before doing an SBR no matter the circumstances. Because it doesn’t matter how much cash he has if he has to keep rebuilding units I’m destroying.

Are the pieces just poorly made or what’s the deal on them?

RE: Hasbro restrictions…..posted in TripleA Support
Even if we just downloaded rules and made our own maps, Hasbro would still be winning if we were using their minitures. Talk about the free advertising that Hasbro would get just by the fact that the game players want to use their pieces. I think someone in the company has forgotton that one of the joys of having extra little armies is the ability to take the basic game system and expand it to whatever scenario you wish.

Hasbro restrictions…..posted in TripleA Support
Crazy question, why is Hasbro discontinuing to offer part sets for all A&A games? Aren’t they shooting themselves in the foot by not allowing us to purchase more pieces from them as opposed to going somewhere else for parts? Any thoughts on this?

Strategic Bombing Raids in Revised…..completely pointlessposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
It seems to me that in the newer versions of Axis & Allies that SBR’s are completely pointless. My reasoning for this statement is as follows. When you launch a SBR, you are risking a 15 IPC unit in the attempt to take away, at most, 6-12 IPC’s from your opponent depending on which version of the game one is playing. I submit to you that the only way to make an SBR worth its time is to re-implement the Heavy Bomber technology with three die. Then your bomber is capable of causing up to 18 IPC’s in damage, thus paying for itself in the process.
