What an absolute scumbag.
I couldn’t agree with you more that Rush is an absolute scumbag. I’d like to add that that Holmes guy is an absolute scumbag too.

These are screenshot of 2 games that I am/was in on www.battleforces.com
The first one was a team game on the ‘Hex Armada’ map. I was blue and my teammates were orange and grey. I ended up locked in an arms race on the island in the upper left hand corner of the map. This game has since been completed with my team pulling through for the win. In this, and most but not all, team game players on the same team may have units in the same land or sea zones without blocking or fighting each other.
The second screenshot is from a game on the ‘Standard World’ map. This is not a team game but I (by coincidence blue again) have agreed to a non aggression pact (NAP) with yellow so I’m not worried about attack from the south. Grey is just about to finish crushing my navy but, as you can see, I’ve got plenty of infantry to absorb any amphibious landing he attempts. Several turns after this screenshot grey landed in both Iberia (Spain) and Thailand. I destroyed both landing forces after another several turns.
At this point though I’ve been granted permission to post links so I’ve already started a thread in the Other Games forum, but thank you Guerrilla Guy for the help.
@ABWorsham:
You must stick around here, you have Champ as your profile picture- which is the best profile picture.
It was either going to be Champ or Bigfoot. I went with Champ :)
Here’s a team game on the Indian Ocean map:

I’m grey and was dealt a bad initial set of territories (sandwiched between my opponents brown & tan). Orange is on my team, but my navy has been destroyed and having to fight a 2 front war on land has left me crippled.

Here’s the following turn. On the bright side my partner has taken the high value territory of South Africa, but the walls are still closing in on my capital…
I took some screenshots of 3 of the five games I’m currently in. Â Here’s one:

That one is on the Hex Armada map and I’m blue. Â It’s a team game with grey and orange being on my team.
The next one is of a game on the World map (the detailed one, not the Axis & Allies world map):

Once again I am blue. Â Here I have a non-aggression pact with yellow and am expecting an immanent landing by grey (my fleet has been destroyed, but I’m confident that I have the land units to absorb his amphibious assault).
The last one here is a custom map created by one of the other players:

This shot was taken during the first turn which is the ‘Capital Selection’ turn. Â During this turn players do just that, select which one of their territories they want to have as their capital. Â It’s also a good idea to send out some messages (there is both in-game & outside-game messaging) laying the ground work for some nonaggression pacts (there is no formal truce/nonaggression pact option available in the game, but nothing prevents players from making agreements amongst themselves).
I may be new here, but if Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure trumps Top Secret (the funniest WWII movie ever) then I may not be around for much longer…
Well then… allow me to usher you to the door sir!
Actually, I cannot pass judgement between the two, because I have never seen Top Secret. However, it would have to be quite a movie to trump Bill and Ted.
And welcome to the forum.
Go rent/buy/borrow/beg/steal it posthaste.
I must say that I am pretty disappointed from everyone’s posts here. I mean… to be honest most of them are pretty lame. I know we are looking for favorite movie phrases, but many are quite obscure, not particularly noteworthy, funny or memorable/classic. Come on people.
“EXCELLENT!”
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
I may be new here, but if Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure trumps Top Secret (the funniest WWII movie ever) then I may not be around for much longer…
And yes, it was a miniatures board game first in the early eighties before it was made into a computer game in the late eighties.
Apparently Harpoon was even more realistic than I thought. I just did some google searching and found out that they have a current version for the military:
“H3 MilSim embodies the latest in naval warfare simulations for analysis, education and training. Among the new features are programmable mission behaviors, a new mission type allowing for boarding of ships by helicopter simulating special operations. Users may simulate situations taken from today’s headlines, such as fighting Somali pirates or interdicting drug runners who use submersibles. Customization is available, and both the databases and scenarios are open for end-user editing. AGSI has former Defense experts available to assist in training, configuration, design and execution.”

I wanna play! I wanna play!
Doctor Flamond: You see, a year ago, I was close to perfecting the first magnetic desalinization process so revolutionary, it was capable of removing the salt from over 500 million gallons of seawater a day. Do you realize what that could mean to the starving nations of the earth?
Nick Rivers: Wow. They’d have enough salt to last forever.
-Top Secret
Nick Rivers (Val Kilmer): Hillary. That’s an unusual name.
Hillary Flammond: It’s a German name. It means ‘she whose bosoms defy gravity’.
Nick Rivers: I’m pleased to meet you. My name’s Nick.
Hillary Flammond: Nick? What does that mean?
Nick Rivers: Oh, nothing. My dad thought of it while he was shaving.
-Top Secret
Really? That is quite an interesting tidbit, considering that I’ve both read the book and played the game but was unaware of the connection. If I recall correctly the largest scenario was very similar to the book so it makes total sense. That was back when I was to eager to get to the punch to take the time to read the preface of books…that has since changed ;)
Did anyone used to play the video game Harpoon? I had it for my Mac SE back in the late ‘80’s (the one without the 20 megabyte hard drive so I had to keep switching disks). It had different scenarios but all were naval conflicts between NATO and the Warsaw Pact members. The graphics were virtually nonexistent, but all other aspects of the game were solid. I used to stay awake until the sun came up kickin’ some Rooskie arse. Ahhh good times, good times.
I’ve never heard of anyone else who used to play so I was curious if any of you were familiar with it.
It’s amazing how the simple addition of a beard and sunglasses instantly transforms Saddam’s nationality from Iraqi to Colombian
The message I wanted to post with links to pictures on photobucket.com has been PMed and is waiting on approval/time to post it for me. I do want to put up multiple posts with multitudinous pictures, so perhaps I will read through all of the forums and put my 2 cents in everywhere I have an opinion. Maybe that would bump me up over the threshold…
While I’m waiting on my ability to post pictures I’ve found a brief review/description of BattleForces:
“If you liked the Axis & Allies board game & various expansions, you’re gonna love Battleforces.com. Infantry, tanks, fighter, bombers, battleships, subs, transports, AAs (SAMs) and more make for an online strategy game that is easy to absorb the game mechanics, but with tactical subtleties that require cunning and experience to master. While Battleforces.com has the classic A&A set-up, the scenarios go way beyond this. Better yet are the simultaneous turns that require players to outguess opponents. Some players specialize in quick 10 minute turn games, while those whose lives have moved past teenager marathon sessions can play 15 minutes a day with 24 hour turns (game options allow 10 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 2 hr, 6 hr, 12 hr, 24 hr, 48 hr, and 1 week turn lengths). Battleforces.com is a free browser game, so join in and see how you rate with the big guns in the ultimate of browser strategy games.”
Once I am granted the ability to post pictures I’ll put up multiple screen shots from various games on all the standard maps.
I’m having trouble posting pictures along with text. When I link to the picture I’m told that Posts with links can’t be posted, but I’ve seen other posts with images attached. Specifically they are screen shots of a game called BattleForces, and I’ve uploaded them to photobucket, but again I keep getting a warning saying no links allowed. What do I need to do?
I’d be interested to see where they would be inclined to place the White House in the Great Lakes region…
