      Okay here we go:
      THOMAS HOUSE RULE #1
      STRICT NEUTRAL BLOCS
Strict neutral territories are divided into blocs
South American-This bloc incorporates all nations in South America, with the Exception of Brazil, Suriname, British Guiana, and French Guiana-The Value/Loss of invading the South American Bloc Starts at 6 IPCs and 8 Infantry (UNASUR tornado on blue backround)
Portuguese-This Bloc incorporates the WWII remnants of the Portuguese Empire-Portugal, Portuguese Guinea, Mozambique, and Angola-The Value/loss of invading the Portuguese Bloc starts at 3 IPCs and 6 Infantry (Portuguese Airforce Roundel)
Middle Eastern-This bloc incorporates the Neutral Nations of the Middle East, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Afghanistan the value/loss of invading this Bloc Starts at 4 IPCs and 14 Infantry (Arab League Emblem)
Mongolian-This Bloc incorporates the WWII territories of Mongolia, including UlaanBaatar, Central Mongolia, Olgiy, Dzavhan, Buyant Uhaa, and Tsagaan Olom (Mongolian Airforce roundel in red circle) Loss/value: 6 infantry
European-This Bloc represents the European WWII nations and their colonies, including Sweden,  Switzerland, Sierra Leone and Spain/Rio De Oro Special Rule: If Spain is Attacked, and taken, the Rio De Oro immediately joins the attacking country, If Rio De Oro is attacked and taken, Spain Immediately joins with the British Player. (European Union Roundel-yes I know they are not Europe, but what would be a better roundel) Loss/Value 5 IPCs, 14 Infantry
Liberia-Pro Allies when US goes to war

    • RE: Neutral Blocks

For those of you who are still considering this option, I made some Roundels
If you have an Asian Bloc, use the ASEAN roundels (homemade)(Grain)(not accurate, but there isn’t a unified logo)
If you have a Spanish Bloc, use the Nationalist roundels (White X on black disc)
If you have a Portuguese Bloc, Use Portuguese Roundels (red cross)
If you have a Mongolian Bloc, use Modified Mongolian Roundels (Modified to be circular, have a star)
If you have a European Bloc, Use EU roundels (homemade) (gold stars on blue field)
If you have a African Bloc, Use African Union roundels (Gold with little Africa inside)
If you have an Arab Bloc, use Arab league Roundels (Has Arabic writing in it)
If you have a South American Bloc, Use UNASUR roundels (Tornadoes)
      These can be used to
      A) Keep track of the Monetary Value of taking a Bloc (or loss of giving up rest of bloc)
      B) Keep track Of each Bloc’s alignment (needs a chart-anyone want to make one?)
C)Place on the Countries of a Bloc as a reminder
Oops, does anyone know how to put a file on the blog?

Would anybody know where to get good cardboard to print these on. I’ll print card stock, and mount it on…
Ideally this cardboard would be on and the same with a suggested roundel-making cardboard, does anyone know of a good roundel-making cardboard?

    • Colonialism

Let me start by saying that I do not yet own any 1940 edition games yet
Let me continue by saying that I am fairly nerdy, and quite frankly do not see that fact as an obstruction to my ability to play AXIS & ALLIES: THEORY 1940 edition. I have full setups saved on my computer so I can contemplate house rules
These are some rules regarding colonialism that I have come up with

COLONIALISM RULES (Similar to National Advantages)
      Italian Colonialism
Italians had colonies in Albania, Libya, and the horn of Africa in WWII. There was some cooperation between the Italians and the governed during the war.
While Italy controls Rome, in your place units phase, you may place one infantry for free in any originally Italian territory outside of Northern Italy, Southern Italy, Sardinia, or Sicily

Dutch Colonialism NOTE:This adds the Dutch as a very minor power and requires some Red units
After the Dutch lost their homeland, Dutch soldiers and sailors fought in WWII around the globe
Dutch Units get one free infantry unit in their place units phase for every three dutch-controlled territories. These units may be placed in any Dutch-Controlled Territory They are not allowed to build any other units, but are treated as an autonomous power controlled by the US player. IF Belgium Holland is captured by allied forces, you may count it as two in your count of countries; you may build there, even if it is controlled by another power. If Holland Belgium is captured by and allied power, you may immediately place 2 infantry there without cost. If the dutch capture Belgium Holland, you may place three infantry there without cost
      Dutch Starting setup
      Java-1 infantry
      Suriname-1 infantry
      Seazone 88-1 transport
      Seazone 42-1 transport

French Colonialism To represent French efforts in the pacific, 1 infantry now defends French Indochina
Also, 1 transport has been placed in Sz 82
After the fall of Paris, free french forces fought across the world against the axis
After Paris falls, the Colonies may build infantry as per the A&A50 rules for China, excluding 0 IPC territories from any count. Placement of infantry is restricted to French Controlled Territories
If Southern France or Normandy Bordeaux are liberated, then you may collect income for all Territories on the Europe map, excluding Madagascar, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. If liberated, Normandy Bordeaux becomes the exiled capital of France, if not, Southern France becomes the capital of France. If Paris is retaken or never falls, the above rules mean nothing

British Commonwealth Forces This is the most complicated so far
The British Commonwealth worked closely with the UK during WWII
      As an NO:
5 IPCs each turn that 7 IPCs or more are spent at the Canadian IC (Units are teal, see historicalboardgaming.com for details) AND 4 IPCs are spent at the South African IC (Land and Fighter Units are grey-blue, representing UK South African forces)
For every two IPCs from territories not originally controlled by UK that is taken and controlled by majority Blue-Grey units, collect one extra IPC per turn and place a South African Roundel on the territory
Likewise for every three IPCs taken and controlled by majority teal units collect an extra 2 IPCS per turn and place a Canadian roundel on the territory.
Otherwise, for anything regarding these forces and/or territories, South African, and Canadian Units are regarded as property of UK-London

German Imperialism and Minor Axis Powers
Forces from Finland, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, and Hungary all helped the Germans on the Eastern Front of WWII
During your place units Phase, If German-Controlled, the German Player may place one infantry for free in Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia Hungary, or Finland

American Colonialism and Minor Allied Powers While US is at war
Many Caribbean and Latin American countries went to war in 1942, with the USA
During you place units phase you may, if they are American-Controlled, place one free American infantry in The Philippines, Mexico, Southeast Mexico, Central America, West Indies, or Brazil

      Chinese Nationalism
Chinese Forces in world war II had tank Battalions at the beginning and end of the war
If China Controls all of its original territories, then it may produce tanks

      Russian Satellites
Even through the cold war the USSR kept a tight grip on Satellite States, even forcing conscription from them
During your place units phase, you may, if USSR-controlled, place a free Russian Infantry in East Poland, The Caucasus, Baltic States, Ukraine, Western Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, or Turkmenistan

ANZAC’s Guinean and New Zealand forces
You may place 1 purchased infantry each on New Zealand and Australia

      Japanese Kamikaze
      You know what this is

      Comments
Note that these are Ideas, I am concerned that they push they game to a far allied situation, in which case  I plan to
A)Charge Allies money for ANZAC, USA, and Russian conscripts
          B) Add to the Pro Axis Neutrals
          C) Last resort, but add to standing armies
      Most comments are appreciated, thanks
PS When Commenting, please keep in mind that I plan to order
          A) 5 Pro-Axis Neutral Infantry HBG
          B) 5 Free French Infantry HBG as Pro Allied Infantry
          C) 5 Red Japanese Infantry, 2 destroyers HBG as Dutch
          D) 16-20 Neutral Infantry HBG
          E) A Japanese plane and three ART from Singapore 1942 FMG as Chinese
          F) South African and Canadian Armies HBG
          G) Possibly some roundels HBG

      @Gargantua:

      Croesus?

So you present an Idea you like,  people decide they want to try it because it sounds fun, so then you slander and berate them, calling them whiners.

      I don’t get it.

GOOD THREAD by the way,  maybe throw it in House Rules, but certainly don’t lock or delete.

I berate only those who berate the developers, but I guess I’ll leave the thread open. Sorry, Sgt. Blitz I didn’t understand the Irony, but otherwise I apologize for none of my made comments.
Onto the game, thank you for appreciating this thread, whether or not I actually started the discussion/Idea of it

I’m sorry I ever started this thread. If you guys hate the revisions, don’t play with them, Larry is doing a heck of a lot unpaid work to be hearing any of this crap from you. If you don’t want  to hear people whine about the balance then don’t read the forums. And SGT.Blitz a signature like that makes me wonder why you’re even hear. You’re all the biggest whiners I’ve found in my entire forum hunt and the fact that Krieghund saw this forum makes me ashamed. Next Moderator who sees this. Please lock or destroy or remove the thread

    • RE: Neutral Blocks

It’s not my Idea. Also, my thoughts would be to have a Portugeuse Block (Portugeuse Guinea, Angola, Mozambique, Portugal) a European Block (Spain, Rio De Oro, Sierra Leone, Sweden, Switzerland) a South American block (The nine countries) and an Asian Block (Mongolia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan). The creation of a Portugeuse allows African powers a little more protection. Rio De Oro is in European block because it was a Spanish Colony, Sierra Leone was British and why it isn’t on the board mystifies me. The South American block is a troublesome one, because the US can devour it before any other powers are even on the coast. The Asian Block forces cooperation between the Powers, because it is difficult to take all of those powers efficiently, and thus not give up free infantry.
Krieghund: Is there an explanation for why this isn’t? (making headway with Larry)

    • Hope for balance

I have not bought the game yet. I do not want the general strategy to be at all revealed
So, I would like to know a few things
How far is Larry’s team on fixing the setup overall? Are we within a measurable range of seeing the setup being 100% agreed on? If so what is that measure?
Next, do all of the noted issues with the games sum up to enough advise me to refrain from buying?
      3rd, thanks for your answers.
Remember DO NOT REVEAL NOTES ABOUT THE STRATEGY PLEASE

    • Another Great Game?

So I have  recently ( meaning 1 year ago) started a gaming group. First we played AA revised in June 2009, then August, then December. For christmas I got AA42 and played that in January. Then I had an idea: we started playing every other month, switching out with Settlers of Catan. Recently I began a quest to get the 1940s. With a schedule in mind:
      January: Settlers Of Catan
      February: AAP40
      March:AA42
      April:AAE40
      May:**
      June: AAG40
      Repeat…
With this, I have free open summer Or winter break for the big, 7 player game (the core of the group is 5 people with 1 close friend and 1 other friend). Now My Issue:
** is a game which does not exist, Ideally there would be a sixth game, (non AA-related) with 5-6 players, that requires strategy and keeps players interested. However I have no where to start. Here are my thoughts:
      Carcassone

      Puerto Rico
      Dominion
      Your thoughts?

    • RE: Re: Statistical odds of AA guns + standard deviations associated low/high sample

How could you possibly say that?
IF there is a successful Sealion AND Germany does a Bang-up job in russia by G3 (EXTREMELY UNLIKELY) AND Italy Wins all of Africa:
      US Income: 65
USSR Income:19 (if this game is magical for germany
      Allied Income:81
Italian Income: 28+5 (On a whim)
      Reich Income: 57+10
      Axis Income:100
Now, this kinda sucks for the allies but in a mathmatically probable game Its approximately an even fight

    • RE: Italy a bad design

I’m sorry, I could only read the first nine pages before I had to post.

What I believe all of you are missing:EGYPT DOESN’T MATTER
G1 attack normandy, Strafe france central
Instead I1 attack syria, the brits will move to defend egypt ahead of and blow up half your navy, also probably grab eastern persia.
I1:Take Syria, Tunisia, Greece, Southern France and France proper
I2: Take Iraq and strengthen your Tobruk garrison to defend against a british strike there
I3: Build an Industry in Iraq…
I4: Take over southern africa first, Egypt WILL follow

Note: This is a strategy to be used IF britain does well UK1, if they do not do well proceed with normal moves
