      Probably already been asked, but do you have a price range for this puppy?

      While that trick is legitimately awesome, and will be used someday. I refer to the distortion that Larry gets. The island of Java would never be the size it is in game, nor would any territory in all of Europe. How does he get a general shape, and then distort it to work?

      While this sounds great, the game is intended to have a design reminiscent of Diplomacy, so many players are required. I guess I’ll just have to pay people to play

    • Game Design

      Hello all, I’m trying to design a game, likely to be highly complex. I was hoping someone might help explain several features of the process.

      1. Mapmaking-How do you draw maps? I have, in the past used blank maps from the internet, and then used paintbrush to edit them into the shapes I like.  However, these never have the level of resolution I feel necessary, and working with that resolution slows my computer heavily. Second, the colors feel wrong, and my game has a majority neutral territories starting out, and I feel like a map with huge amounts of white is an automatic turnoff. How do you all deal with neutral coloration?

      2. Rules - How do you get the diagrams, and pictures found in A&A. Obviously a one-off printing won’t have that kind of quality, but how can it be emulated? How do you ensure you have covered everything?

      3. Units - I’ll probably just use units from other games, but how do you design them. I’m good at designing rules and maps, but I’m no artist.

      4. Playtesting - If you’re lucky to get in, say, 1 game in three months of A&A, how do you test a game? It’s not that I don’t have time, just no one to play against.

    • Mapmaking

      Lots of people make map files. This is all well and good, but how do I use them? I use high-quality paper, but I’m pretty sure my computer doesn’t take quarter inch thick cardboard? So if I were making a 1400s Imperialism themed game, I still can’t get the map, never mind the units.

      They can’t spell, nor do they seem to know the release date correctly, but: http://www.amazon.com/Axis-Allies-1914-World-Baord/dp/B00B0EMNB4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362579191&sr=8-1&keywords=axis+and+allies+1914

      Seazone 16a: Shhh… I’m already designated as “a”. What the hell does that mean? When will it end
      Seazone 16b: Calm down guys, Larry will save us

    • RE: Zeppelins

      Zeppelins caused a total damage 1.5 million pounds. Killed 600 people. Not really on the scale of real bombers. I don’t know that there is any need for them. Although if bombers were a unit in the game, this would be a awesome sculpt

    • RE: Speculation on Africa

      @Hitlers:

      @DarthShizNit:

      We’re not even sure they spawn units atm. I personally don’t think they well.

      I sure hope they do, other wise Germany gets free reign over Central Africa. Plus it wouldn’t be very logical or accurate.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_campaign_in_Angola

      Then again historical accuracy is second to game balance. I just feel like France has no teeth in Africa and if the Portuguese and Belgian colonies don’t get troops, then Britain has to take all of Africa and hold off the Ottomans on their own.

      I’m also surprised that German East Africa only gets 1 infantry given that this incredible btd was never defeated.

      Though A&A games have never really depicted guerrilla warfare before.

      That is really truly epic. Thank you.

    • RE: Worst part of the game so far

      House rules only work if everyone agrees. If there can be unilateral agreement, then I’ll stop being a stickler.
      BUT FIRST…
      The game must be released (A novel Idea, I know)

      @Flashman:

      I suggest using Black German WWII units for Askaris.

      Racist.
      No, I’m kidding, but I think if the rules are as simple as that (The Askaris could be trimmer), I could see being in favor, though we’ll have to see the real game as is first. The gas attacks is brilliantly simple. The rails similarly so. The cruiser should help with the India Problem

      For a moment there, I thought we were going to learn something new about tanks.

      Thanks to Larry for dedicating an entire week to that most informative article.

      There’s an awful lot of naval action in this game.

      Just like the war. Isn’t that what you want?  :wink:

      but I wish I didn’t need to houserule at all.

      You don’t. I’m sure the system (as is) will work quite well. Transport ships should eliminate the “massive imbalance” issues of a lack of rail

    • RE: Worst part of the game so far

      @Auztria:

      Seriously, it is truly sad that this game will probably see so much houseruling. With just a little more attention to detail, this could’ve been one of the best pure Axis & Allies games out there; now it’ll be distorted so much that everyone will basically be playing a different game.

      It still will be one of the best A&A games. If I could vote for “The fact that everyone is whining about it” I would, but people like you decide to ignore the fact that it’s a WWI game with, in my opinion, a perfect battle system. Cavalry wouldn’t fit into a system, because you would need complex rules about the speed of units. The advantage of cavalry is that they charge the guns quickly, so not easily representable. Bombing was a pretty minimal thing in WWI, as even zeppelin raids and bombings accounted for few casualties. Prussia is annoying, but have you never seen map inaccuraccies before? The russian revolution was about as good as it could be without supercomplex rules. Barring a ridiculously complex morale system, Capitals rule is as logical as anything (Meaning the war was illogical, so nothing really makes sense.) American Entry is literally exactly like G40 entry. Fixed turn if nothing else happens.
      Gas. Again KISS. that is a very complicated thing to add in. This is supposed to compare with 1942, not 1940. Moscow is a valid complaint,  but it it doesn’t limit my ability to enjoy a game. Finally, Rails? Okay flashman, I’ll let you have this one, because it makes some sense. However this game is supposed to be on the level of 1942, and y’all have turned your expectations into something more complex than G40!@vonLettowVorbeck1914:

      I’m waffling between “This game is associated with WotC so these problems are actually pretty minor” and “For $100 MSRP there is LESS unit complexity than A&A 1941! WHAT?!?”

      My biggest concern now is that once the novelty wears off, this game will get boring faster than a lot of the others did. New sculpts are cool for about 11 minutes, new board for a day, Russian Revolution the first couple times it happens, and the new land combat system for 10 games or so. But I don’t really see much of anything that sets this apart, other than simply being WWI. Maybe multiple viable strategies for both sides will keep this interesting for a long time, but Alpha 3 Global didn’t give me much hope for that.

      What makes ANY game exciting? STRATEGY. The bells and whistles exist only to make the strategy fun.
