hitting egypt with your indian forces is giving india and the vc to japan for a song. since i do like to try and play within the spirit of the game i would avoid that, also the 4 inf there will slow japan that one additional turn and a south africa complex lets 2 tanks motor towards caucasus/india every turn as well as keeping africa secure

RE: Africa Folly for Germany?
i don’t know about 4 trannies but a g1 ac and hit egypt, g2 baltic trannie and take gibraltar then link off france g3. i only see it happening if uk/usa are very cautious, more likely your med fleet stays in med and your baltic fleet comes out and might survive. you could do g1 ac+trannie and take gibraltar round one then link on g2. puts alot of pressure on uk since you have 3 trannies that can hit london for g2 or link and threaten his fleet. just keep buying fighters and take them as casualties, especially if usa fleet/air are still out of range
caspian sub talks about 2-3 trannies g1 for a link, they think it will deter uk from hitting fleet, i think i would still do it even knowing my air is toast to trim that fleet down so i could handle it the next round

RE: What are some good Russian strategies?
if you strafed ukraine r1 and have a good stack in west russia you can move it to ukrain r2, threatening balkans, easter euro, the risk there is if he is strong in karelia you will have a big german army in archangel g2. if your allies are helping in northern you can push in ukraine and if they are heavy in africa you need to protect north. dont get cocky and split you stack trying to bag alot of cash or you can find yourself out of manpower pretty quick

RE: What are some good Russian strategies?
i like to hit west russia with everything that can except the armor then hit ukraine with the force in caucasus plus the two armor in russia, don’t take it but hit and retreat. the upside is you kill the front line german inf, but the downside is you leave the fighter to pound the brits in africa. its worth it to me, africa will be retaken and you start trading ukraine without losing any initial armor. the one in arc can either go east to harrass the japs or go to cauc. i have hit west russia with everything and seen germany counter whole hog, wiping my tanks out because he has 6 inf that can hit and a mess of air. don’t do bury, japs will hit that stack hard and then you have nothing up there. if you do really lobby the brits to hit the kwang tran with the indian fightr then land in bury. i prefer the 8 stack further west. they wont mess with that for atleast a couple turns and you only lose i ipc. also, if you strafe ukraine you can move 4 inf into singkiang wich will hold the center longer. russia is fun because you decide the game really, you fall it is usually call it time.

RE: Africa Folly for Germany?
i know i do al, if you link your fleets off france and then bail to the med when uk/usa are ready to wipe you, you can have 2-3 trannies then you could move 6 inf from southern euro to ukrain/caucasus. more likely you have one maybe two but the flexibility is nice. another plus to a med fleet is dropping grunts off in africa/mid-east to disrupt the material flow across north africa. with germany it is all about buying japan that extra turn or two before you have to curl up and get hammered. i have had germany in the 50’s for several turns and still had to cover up from the 1-2-3 combo eventually because all three of them go before germany gets another turn and once they figure out how to coordinate their assaults it becomes a losing proposition. i love it! punch all three allies in the face so they can’t see straight then duck!
if uk/usa aren’t carefully aggressive (?) moscow goes bye bye from germany and if they aren’t aggressively careful(??) then japan gets the prize. but both axis have to really have their act together because i don’t think they can recover from and significant blunders the way the allies can -
RE: 2 Destroyers OR 1 Battleship?
i didnt read the whole thread cause im new here and that would take fucking forever……
this is the terminology i was refering to mo. i’m no prude and it doesn’t particularly offend me but when typing it is a conscious effort to insert profanity unlike talking where it might slip. i just don’t want someone with a different spin on strategy thrown off because they are wanting to express themselves
as far as the thread itself, i like the bb if i have the cash, i never buy two dd instead unless they are going two different places. free hit and 4/4. it is unrealistic to compare 20 dd to 10 bb because that is a situation that won’t arise (i would think). also the application of the two vessels is different. i am with mofo in always trying to pair bb with cv. i use dd as protection for trannie convoys from air raids. and of course you always need one in your deep water fleets for sub protection.

RE: What to do With Britian in the East?
if you are going to desert india you could hit borneo, that would tweak the nips. that trannie in australia can go after new guinea and it fouls up the fleet movement from east indies, brit sub vs jap sub? i like the brit fig hitting that sub then landing in hawaii sea zone (52?) add alot to usa defense and all the little annoyances can save the entire fleet if japan gets bent out of shape enough to hit you instead of pearl
-
RE: History for strategy?
no offense mofo (please watch your language too) but it sounds like borderline incompetent play from your opponents if you can put an ic in india and slowly reinforce it. it should be gone j3 at the latest and with air and cv purchases in pacific every round germany should be doing unspeakable things to the russians. i love the idea of putting pressure on japan instead of the same ole same ole and would like to hear more. what is japan and germany doing while you go pac wild?

RE: Africa Folly for Germany?
if you hit egypt as i suggested with bomber 2 fig and inf/arm it blocks the canal and with three trannies in range of uk he has to defend capital which changes his strategy if only temporarily, this also disupts the usa fleet, when you link off france you have lots of options.
the last game i played )far too long ago, total withdrawls) i retreated to the med with hwat was left of my fleet after sinking uk and usa fleets, this gave me shielding in southern euro as well as tran support to africa if wanted or over to caucasus. i don’t know if this is an “optimal” stategy since i have only played a dozen games or so but at least it is different -
RE: German Aircraftcarrier?
i ahve tried a g1 bb, it was not a “serious” game and i had a lot of fun linking my fleet and terrorizing the atlantic with two bb’s for a couple of rounds. i might revisit it again in a more disciplined approach when my play group gets more experience to see what kind of slap down i get
-
RE: Africa Folly for Germany?
what about a german fleet link off france g2. i have though egypt with the 2 land units, 2 fig and 1 bomb if ukraine fig survives. risky but should capture with 1 armor, might lose 1 fig though, traps dd in med for later .

RE: Stopping japan
it is amazing how when you try to write something tongue in cheek and then read it you look like an a**hole. i have rewritten several replies after seeing them “in print”. i checked out the game with octo and i feel there was some fundemental flaws in the opening (pearl, 2 ic) no offense but these would probably be great against less experienced allied players but hardly earth shattering. i haven’t seen round three yet so i could be talking like an idiot (wouldn’t be the first time).
anyway, back to the topic. if japan does splash the pearl fleet and pump effeciently into asia what is the best way to slow them down? a stack in bury invites russian disaster because they can’t replace that army once it gets toasted, and it will j2 at the latest. an indian ic is asking for trouble. has anyone had success with the india/singkang ic’s?
my thought has been south africa ic for uk and heavy african flow for the usa, meeting japan in persia and sending supplies into russia while uk is reinforcing northern europe. these work great once the german navy is gone, but if he can dance in the atlantic just long enough it can be too late -
RE: Rule Clarification (Sub vs. BB)
that is what i am saying i suggested, but THEY decided to split their fleet and it cost us (i was germany) the game. i was not saying that three straight bb builds by the usa is a great strategy, just that it was interesting and different
-
RE: Rule Clarification (Sub vs. BB)
that was my suggestion, but they decided to split their fleet and keep the pressure on asia. natural consequences and part of the learning curve i suppose
-
RE: Rule Clarification (Sub vs. BB)
i played a game wher the usa player bought bb the first three rounds then set sail into the pacific and totally wrecked japans navy right outside tokyo, then started the ak to sfe flow. i thought the guy was nuts (still do!) but those four bb’s along with the rest of the fleet was quite a sight to behold.

RE: Stopping japan
if japan is not too eager they can have quite a force rolling in as everyone knows, it is a balancing act for sure, fast enough to save the game but not so fast you over expose your armor. in the particular game i am talking about he was able to build up for an extra round because i had turtled in europe and the allies were trading western with me while he prepared for moscow. i am not looking for a blow by blow breakdown of a single game but rather input on how other more exprerienced(?) players slow the japanese land push down beside the usa/uk push in europe so russia can hammer the japs. we are recreational players due to schedule and family constraints and are interested in entertainment more than gen con rankings. it may simply be my opponents are still too new but as i said on triple a i can get japan rolling inland pretty fast and furious as well.
by the way i do appreciate the input. -
RE: German Aircraftcarrier?
nazi carrier totally rocks! you can even wait to merge until round three and still hit egypt g1 then gib g2 and buy another trannie g2 so have three in range of london but still heavy land buys every turn, just remember to comit to buying at least one fig every round and take them as casualties to your fleet when possible. that fleet off france can go anywhere but d.c. in one round which really makes usa/uk cautious since you can land 6 units next to easter usa or pound london. when the allies get too big to handle (they will) bail back to the med and use the trannies to move men from southern to ukraine or caucasus. the atlantic german navy doesn’t have to be huge, just effective.
i started another thread about stopping japan when this happens and am still not totally understanding what they are saying but having only played revised about 15 times i am no expert. but the games i have seen the baltic navy get support even if only for a short time have been axis victories and the ones where the germans just try and run/sit with what they have have been allied ones.

RE: Stopping japan
my navy didn’t last more than three rounds but that was enough to slow usa/uk just enough for japan to make it to moscow. my point of this thread was not another german navy discussion (not that i mind, it was really fun while it lasted!) but how to slow japan down, is the only way by hitting germany with usa/uk so russia can turn around and smack them nips? i was hoping for something different and have been thinking some options over via triplea, it seems if usa can get japan to duke it out they can replace the fleet that japan cannot but they must pick their battle carefully or risk being wiped with little japan damage.

RE: Stopping japan
i wasn’t buying navy, just fighters. japan was pumping 11 units a round into asia and i was holding the line in europe, trading the central countries. i agree, i think the real turning point was when russia split their stack but i still was building 8-10 infantry per turn. should the usa go north to can/norway? i always like using usa to go brazil/africa then when sub-sahara is secure all six trans can hit algeria then a 3x3 swap there or hit western or southern. as i said, they took western twice but i was able to retake it without depleting my berlin/rome reserves too much because at that time i was buying 1 fighter and all infantry. japan rolled into and through because i was tweaking them all out so much that EVERYTHING was going at me which was my plan. it barely worked as is but i have run a few games in triplea similarly and it panned out similarly. if japan can avoid major naval engagements with usa except on their terms and germany can stall the atlantic shuffle even two turns then i always see jap tanks in moscow.
i have heard about the asian wall but that seems like two free ic’s for japan. building a big enough fleet in pacific takes time and if japan is smart too much time. i know my strat with germany is not unique not was the very traditional jap push, so, what’s up? if uk had built a cv i would have been able to hit london brutally and if the russian sub stalled me one round i would still be merged. i think the baltic navy rocks! -
RE: Stopping japan
i was taking fighters as casualties and replacing them 1/round. russia was basically taking it to me good until he split his stack and i could dent the beast. us got kicked out of africa when their fleet got splashed, by the time they got back in the seen (they took western twice before moscow fell) i was turtled and sacrificed my tanks to soften ussr up for japan.
