    • RE: J1 Kwangtung IC.

the nice thing about mainland IC builds is you can go into deep water with your fleet or bounce it around africa/alaska as a distraction and still be sending units into asia or use it to supplement your IC mainland production.  1 IC in kwang and four trannies and you are sending 3 units/turn into china and 4/turn into both FIC and bury.

even with all that the FIC IC is still strategically better than kwang (imho) but it is also a much more tired and worn strat being a standard J1 for me since the earliest days of classic.  new is always fun for our group and if i do pull japan next game (i have been chomping at the bit to do so for SEVERAL months now) i am going kwang IC J1 just to see what it presents.

    • RE: Protecting India…

i used to build aussie complexes in classic to harass the japs in a kjf strategy, it was fun and more challenging to be sure.

our last game we used NA’s and i got colonial garrison and placed it in south africa.  i was able to secure africa without usa helping but could not stem the japanese tide effectively in persia, will need to rethink, ESPECIALLY if not given a free complex.  this is obviously sub-optimal as i stated earlier, but the idea is FUN not ego with our group

if you are running three prongs an ic in kwang can work, four trannies swapping north and south (two each prong)with a 3 unit push up the middle.

if you are hitting china j1 kwang is ok compared to fic, but fic is strategically better situated.  if you left the two inf there and didn’t do bury and landed you figs from china there it is pretty secure j1 from anything that could possibly hit it.

precisely switch, it would require a south african complex which pulls away from europe (hence the “sub obtimal” diagnosis)
if i pull uk again this weekend i am going to try it (the fleet down by madagascar and only hitting the jap sub with one sub, no fig)

    • RE: Artillery

i think most of us are aware of the mathematical probabilities involving inf/art/arm .

my question was if anyone use artillery in significant numbers and what their experience doing so was, as well as the proportion of art to inf purchased. (thanks axel for doing so)

i have debated the merits of artillery and am going to see if they can be they major playing piece the designers hoped in my next game.

      i was just curious

    • RE: Protecting India…

i think j3 is the prime turn to take india, the amount of land forces you will have in the area will fuel your mid-east expansion and you can often hit india without any air exposed to the aa gun.

i am thinking of a strategy to recapture india with uk from africa. this is not “optimal” since it is not KGF but variety is the spice of life!

    • Artillery

how many of you consistrently buy artillery in significant (not “i got a buck left”) amounts? and if so what % of your ground units do you like to be rtl?

i am going to try and push artillery significantly this weekend when we play

(maybe i should have started this as a poll, but i hate pollsters :|)

sounds like switch and i are in agreement on this (it makes logical sense as well)

      i love being validated

    • RE: Rule question

i think not (it is still “russian”), but if the uk took it from germany then on subsequent turns they could place up to 4 unit there until moscow was liberated, at that point it would revert to russian control.

i think the difference is moorcock is off drugs now (conjecture) this books is more recent and i am only just into starting it (ch.4)

i agree, elric saga was from a different time/era we will see how this one pans out i just thought is was cool that it contained “AnA” timing

    • RE: History of the World

this is a great game !!
the hardest part is letting go of last turns’ empire (unless they were the Khmers)

the battle system is so simplethat you can devote your expanation time to the turn/card sequence and the event cards that is where i think the game hinges

he plays axis very similar to my approach, i just try and sink trannies as well but i can’t argue with 30 divisions any more than you :-o

    • RE: Multi-National forces on ATTACK

i understand both sides and their validity and i conjecture that with lhtr 3 that allied boats will soak hits.  my biggest issue is that it seems to be ANOTHER, albeit rare, situation that favors the allies in a game that most agree already favors the allies (even without NA’s which make it worse) i would much rather see something that makes KJF viable

    • RE: A G strategy that needs some serious feedback!!!

i did one game with a build g1 of 1 ac and 1 tranny, took gib with the med fleet so i had 3 trp in range of london- forced uk to buy defensively for one round and then i linked and played havoc in the atlantic until i died (2-3 rounds) bought just enough time for japan to make it to moscow. but russia was taking it to me pretty good for the first 3 rounds because i was backpedaling in europe until my troop buys could catch up. if uk/usa had gotten around my fleet one round sooner i wouldn’t have been able to push back and it would have been lights out for berlin.  timing is everything!
