i would never consider putting my russian fighter in egypt. what is the purpose, trading it for an artillery, maybe a tank?

i agree nix, giving japan india on j1, instead of j3 (my usual sacking schedule) puts them in position to pressure russia on j3-4. plus the whole spirit of the victory city concept

RE: Attacking Subs with Air Unitsposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
all islands should be worth at least a buck, this might encourage more pacific fleet builds for usa to try and island hop. i have also thought about maybe a $5 transfer if you capture an island worth $0 (i know this is house rule). i too am dissapointed by the lack of naval action, especially after a game of pacific. next revised that i am usa i am implementing a two prong atlantic and pacific approach (i will have to discuss with my russian ally because it will be slow and he will have to really hang on with only the uk and half the usual usa assistance) wish me luck, i think we all agree that a workable KJF strat (or even a KBF/KUSAF) would be a good thing for the game

RE: What do you build in R1? - poll with many options…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i like the 5-1-1 if my allies are experienced othewise i go infx8. i also like to pick up a fighter but have a strict policy that i don’t do it unles i got 30+ bucks on hand. i tend to do tank/inf ($26=1+7, $28=2+6) but i have decided that i am going to invest more in artillery next time we play, no one in our group really buys them and we only have two people (out of 9) who played classic at all so it can’t be “old fashioned” thinking. so, win or lose i am determined to put a bunch of arties on the board next revised i play

it is too bad that russia doesn’t at least have SOME option on fleet/naval that isn’t suicide against even marginal german play. even in classic we never saw it, not even day one

RE: Extra IPC's every roundposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i haven’t seen the dire need for a bid either, if we see a significant swing in the win/loss column (will happen when my group gains experience perhaps) we will be using NA’s for the balancing (this is what i feel they were intended for) so if the allies are whacking the axis all the time give ger/jap each one and set it back up. if the axis are rolling over the uneasy alliance then give them an NA and throw down again. everyone who is using bids (non-tourney) should try this. instead of an extra grunt for the nazis how about fort euro or atlantic wall? this upgrades all of your affected pieces (is that too powerful?)

RE: How long do your Games Last?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
8 VC held for an ENTIRE round (capture one round hold them the next) is (IMHO) agreat way to change things up, one of you guys suggested iot awhile back and i have been lobbying our group to change from the 9 VC (i.e. race to moscow vs. triple team) to this format and feal confident i will be successful (if that dirty word “work” would quit getting in the way of our play time)

RE: How many of you prefer a game where you can develop weapons?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
hey bobby c, try playing once without tech and see if you have to adjust your strats, thats what we do in our group to avoid repetition, change things up and keep it interesting. also if you HAVE to have a specific tech to be successful with certain countries that would tend to make you very one demensional in your strats wouldn’t it?. uk can be a powerhouse without heavy bombers if played right, we often see their income in the 40’s in our games. do you feel that the axis have an unfair advantage in the game without tech rolls and that is why the designers have techs that are better for uk and usa? just curious and glad to see you on the boards.

RE: Japan's Inf.posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
that should have been the end of the uk fleet axel. i use the east indies pair on j3 to take india and usuall have a trannie and a bb and cv w/ 2 figs pick up the rest at their leisure, taking australia and new zealand before heading back to the mainland. trannies in sz 60 can cherry pick a couple and add one from japan for bury (is it wake and okinawa?) the trannie that hit india can get the others. really by j5 the islands are pretty much empty and you have half-doven or so grunts in asia you didn’t have to buy. if usa or uk really are able to island hop (this means something is going wrond), the off-shore usually doens’t give your guys a chance to fire anyway so they aren’t really a defense anyway.

RE: Transport capacity and the dissappearing artilleryposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
how much art do you buy switch?
the thing to look at is on the second and subsequent rounds of combat where the tanks continue to have the 3 attack don’t you think?
your art/inf stays at a 2 average but as you lose inf with your armor the avg would actually go up wouldn’t it?
i agree that it is a matter of filling boats, period.
i am just wondering if the art is not bought if the tank can be?in pac and euro with the trannie going 1 tank or 1inf/1art i would think LOTS of atrillery would be purchased
we will be playing our first game of pacific soon and i am looking forward to the change of pace -
Transport capacity and the dissappearing artilleryposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
do any of you think that with the ability to haul a tank with the infantry on a transport has discouraged the purchase of artillery for the naval powers?

RE: How many of you prefer a game where you can develop weapons?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
the main trouble with techno is that it favors the usa so much, but i guess it is a trade off, if they buy heavy into tech then their trannie flow is lighter, but i do like the fact that it makes each game different, i just wish they were better balanced (just like everyone else) so you really had to decide which one to go for. i also like the concept of an investment approach where you put money aside over time that way even russia might be tempted to put like 1-2 bucks aside each round for a payoff later in the game

RE: IC builds for G?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i tried an egyptian IC for germany once (and only once) i was kicking the who know what out of uk,usa down there and thought it would be a good way to flank russia, well as we all know you can only hold africa for so long and i ended up getting it captured just before moscow fell. the 2 units a round the IC gives you would be moved cheaper with another trannie if you really want to commit to africa that heavy. i never have put that kind of cash down there since and still hold africa about the same length of time so it is more cost effective to just use the one trannie you have and pull out when uk/usa start flowing through and let them meet your jap buddy in the mid-east

RE: Attacking Subs with Air Unitsposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i think that since subs get an “opening fire” shot they should roll before the planes and if they “hit” then they can dive to avoid being shot, this balances nicely (imho) because aircraft did shoot alot of subs in the war, but there were a lot of subs to shoot!
i think this would also encourage spreading your subs around. house rule i know but what do you all think? -
RE: Dire Axis Situation….To the Last man.posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
with germany buying infantry, moscow sending tanks and fighters flying from japan you should be ok, like others said, you jap fleet nees to make usa concenred so he can’t devote all his cash to europe, even if you don.t invade. as you build in europe you can start to use the japs to liberate gray territoris so germany doesn’t have to split their stack in berlin. at this stage you should be making more cash than them so trading planes for trannies is ok for you. also, what is the africa situation?

the kwang IC is best when UK is foolish enough to put one in india for you

RE: No variety in A&Aposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
perhaps vet, but i tend to think that the designers, while brilliant, were not “expert” level players so indeed mybe they felt the need to favor the allies but more likely they felt these advantages had historical reasons to be the way they are (and to guarantee the allies victory) if your group is at a point where the axis are winning all the time, give the allies a NA and see what happens.
we played a game with 1 NA each saturday and it had minor effect but it did change things, especially for the axis (non-aggression for russia sent japan west)

RE: No variety in A&Aposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
it seems that when new to the game axis wins alot then it shifts, forcing the axis to improve their play dramatically. if you want more variety in the strats you need to employ try the national advantages, i conjecture that is what they are designed for.
