RE: How would you change the map?posted in House Rules
tek, thanks for replying, but i’m not sure what the point of posting land mass was. then i read leader’s post and it stated my point nicely, thanks :-)
switch, i think giving subs a “shot” when air only hits to submerge before attack would be reasonable.

the five #1 rules of our dojo (and my interpretion)
1. seek perfection of character (be a better person than you were yesterday)
1. be faithful (keep your word)
1. endeavor (always do your best at whatever you are doing)
1. respect others (even if they do not respect you, and don’t confuse respecting someone as a person with allowing them to mistreat you)
1. refrain from violent behavior (we don’t train to learn how to fight, we train to learn how to not have to fight)

all islands should be worth something to encourage U.S. pacific activity
russia should have 0 IPC value territories in siberia to discourage jap tanks in the tundra
there should be a burma territory between india and frindo to allow a viable indian uk complex
middle east should be more valuable (oil resources) to encourage activity on this front
adopt the pacific/europe sub policy (no air only attacks) to encourage u-boats
victory city conditions should require HOLDING them for an entire round not just a “quickie” capture
atlantic islands?
cruisers (3/3) and destroyers (2/2)?
more possibilities pending

my schedule (and my technology disability) make it untenable to enter into a tournament, i usuall am able to get on the site from work and that is not the best place to have a game.
on the upside, i have recently downloaded abattlemap and after the tournament is over am willing to try and do a game. we usually play full five player n revised and i have yet to play a one on one game.
i usually play axis as well so i welcome the opportunity to fine tune allied strategy.

RE: What's the consensus on a standard bid?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i think a bid of 8 is crazy, extra german inf plus $44 and a buck to japan for a 2 trannie 1 IC open?

RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
time is everything though octo, each round germany survives is one round closer to moscow for japan. i will not argue your success without a g1 naval build, that would be kind of silly since you won 8-) but USUALLY the baltic ships are gone on UK1 without any buy up there and allied landing operations can commence immediately. funny, i feel the opposite as the allies, if i DON’T see a german naval build i feel i have the game won
-
RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
well octo, i lkie a baltic fleet because it prevents uk/usa from landing in either berlin or eastern. the ac lets you figs have a very flexible range and with the 2 ss the allies have to respect your fleet for a while. also if the opportunity arises you can exit the baltic, either to hit uk or link with the med fleet and threaten canada and brazil. i have done this and it is a lot of fun as well as an effective delaying tactic on the usa. all for $16, bargain.
i think the key in western is building it up steadily to discourage landings then when they have suffecient forces pull out (including aa) and slaughter them on your next turn. you have to do it before the force will be too large to destroy but large enough that the allies think it could be held. either that or just keep on stackin’. if you empty it too early you have the “piecemeal” landings in western as well as eastern and possibly southern. THAT is a pain in the a$$

sounds good to me!!
you are torturing me with the quote thingy
(i should ask my twelve year old :-P)well, i have only been through canada once driving, liked the hotsprings but not the gas station attendants (“i will not turn my pumps on for less than $20”) :-o :x :-P

that i get flush but what i am saying is if the usa or uk lands in eastern europe and captures it and germany recpatures it, even if the uk or usa player only gets half the value in casualties from germany that they lose it is still to the allies advantage to do so. also, you can capture with one country nad the reinforce with the other two, all the sudden it isn’t such a rinky-dink force anymore

flush, i’m not sure what you mean by “piecemealing” does your group genrally continue to build trannies/ ground troops until a massive d-day type assault? i like securing africa and landing troops every round to fight/assist in the allied effort in europe if the trannies are positioned properly you will have all of them in range of western while still funneling troops where you need them. then when the time is right you hit france with a massive amount of troops

RE: Attackposted in Other Games
it sounds interesting, and i really like what i have read about the combat resolution mechanism. i think it is probably easier to learn than A&A so is probably easier to break rule wise (read something about BB stall the was similar to sub stall in a&a) but i am leaning towards getting this game for/to play with my kids/their friends.
-
RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
why does it take away from a serious landing later? if usa and uk know what they are doing their trannies are alway full and steadliy growing in #. i called it ‘space for rent’ in defference to octo and his quote.

88, when do you land in algeria initially? if you did it to me in usa 1 you would have to rebuild your entire fleet, thats gets expensive.

RE: Germany Strategy concept…posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
in classic? we did not have a"bid" per se but had a slew of house rules relating to tech and retreat/non-combat moves that balanced things out. straight up it was always allies after the initial ‘shock and awe’ that the axis had out of the box. i guess you could throw down the gauntlet in the games (after the tourney) and play some of the classic gurus without a bid, i would like to see it. i could win as axis in classic without a bid, but i do admit some of my group back then were not the most strategically gifted (sorry guys)

RE: Stopping a shore bombardment of 5 BB's with one sub? Is it worthwhile?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
i guess i just don’t see it as a big deal, if you are hitting a country from both sides then your units from both sides are IN the area in question, then when they retreat they move OUT of the region. if they moved back to the original location isn’t that still another space moved? i haven’t seen it enough to think it is a big deal, but that doesn’t mean others haven’t. the allied fleet thing was a different animal for sure and look what happened! we are movers and shakers!
