Ya, 2 IC in mainland and save the $1 million man hours of production for something else.
I’ve played you when you used this strat, and it didn’t seem to blossem into anything very positive to me, sorry.
On the positive side though, it did cause me to build up my US pacific fleet as I recall, which took some pressure off of Germany, so that is an Axis plus. -

I must agree, putting all you eggs in one basket is not going to be anything more than someone making an omlet of you. You have to attack everywhere on the first turn or you will be giving the allies an advantage/s.
Example:
Ignore Egypt= The Indian fleet comes into the Med through the suez canal and good-bye Italian navy. Also now you must defend southern Europe from G-2 on.
Build all shiny new Panzers on G1= 10 tanks, (30 attack/30 defense) vs 20 infantry, (20 attack/40 defense). Don’t overlook the 10 extra infantry units that have to be destroyed to capture vital territory, Territory which earns you IPCs to build things and which when in your control denies the allies precious IPCs to build things.
My best advice is put some boots on the ground. Buy 3 Inf with your prebuild and place one each in; Ukraine, West Russia, and Belorussia. At least the Russians may pay more dearly for their aggression, and make your counter attacks easier.

RE: Japanesse attack on US mainlandposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Don’t give up hope. Every once in awhile the US player will leave thier guard down, and you can sneak in and grab the Western USA. I did it just the other day with one transport and two infantry from the Soloman Islands. I was just picking up Infantry to bring to The Eastern front and he overlooked the fact and left the single UK unit from W Can in L.A. Wham Bam, thank you man! I took it without a loss!

I agree with Funcioneta, if you are playing OOB rules, no prebid IPCs’ should be available. Placing an extr transport in the Baltic prior to G1 just might be worth going for an operation sealion.
My biggest problem is with getting that transport off of Eastern Canada. If my sub losses, All will be for nothing. Especially if both the UK BBs survive!
The most Fighters I hope to have would be 5, After the Russians take the Ukraine on R1. With all my air commited to Sealion I would be taking it defensively everywhere else except maybe for Karilia. Not something that bodes well for the German position. No new territories, no troop builds to push for new territries before G3 and you’ve got one stagnet Germany with a built up Russia staring at you licking his lips on where to hit you with all his armies.
The worst thing that you can do t the allies is sink their moral. They may concede on G1. Then you have only won a very short game, IMO not played a good one. -
RE: The TRN Bid to Baltic - viable or not?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Well first off most people will not play a game where capitals can be attacked in round one, but even so, I believe the 11 or 12 IPC can be better spent elswhere. The eastern front/africa certainly could use the boost of manpower.
I lost UK in round 2 or 3 once, and still came back to win the game, so it is not a game winnning move IMO. In fact, the german losses were so horrendous that he lost more points than he gained! :-P -
RE: German Factory in Ukraine Turn 1posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
As far as the Russian front is concerned, Germany dosen’t have enough left after R1 to do much with out there. It will take a couple turns to build up and press forward. I usually leave 1 Inf per territory on the Eastern front just to make the Russians fight for them, and build my stack in EE. My first tun builds are: 1 panzer, 5 artillery, and 5 Infantry.
I put the panzer and 1 Inf in southern europe and the rest in Germany.
But that is my strat, to give my Infantry more attacking power.
one Infantry + one artillery= 4 attack points for a cost of 7 IPC.
one Infantry + one Armor = 4 attack points for a cost of 8 IPC.
After a few rounds those few extra IPC will add up.
Of course, it is not as sexy as Panzers running around so I get a tank or two every round, as they do well in the defending department later on.
Good luck in your game.

RE: German Factory in Ukraine Turn 1posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
I would lke to answer the Question, about blocking the UK from an attack into Karilia on UK1.
I always sacrifice a sub from the Baltic fleet and place it off of Norway to prevent the UK from either softening up or taking back Karilia. i find that this allows my Infantry one turn to catch up, and I can usually hold Karilia for several turns, and deny the UK or USA as well from re-inforcing there or even trying to go heavily into Norway for 4 or 5 turns, which means I will get income from them for 4 or 5 turns as well.
The problem is, you have to abandon western europe. Of course it will turn into a trade zone with each sie taking its’ turn on capturing it, but you will usually get it back in the trading process for 5 or 6 turns at least. Meanwhile, get as much as you can out of Africa. Make them come after you with full effort. This means less pressure on your european territories for 4 or so turns. More time to build for the push against Russia. The Eastern front is a chess match. Position is everything! Get your big stack where it can threaten the most while still being out of reach from a combined, albeit staggered, Allied attack.
Some players prefer it to be in Eastern Europe, after pulling back from Karilia, while others like the Balkans better. Belorussia is too close to the front for me unless I have at least 3 turns of full infantry builds in my stack.
As far as the fleets are concerned, they will die, at the Allies whim. All you should do is hope they get some hits when they go down.
Well, good luck, and have fun! -
RE: Long Range Aircraft, all out attack UK Turn 1posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
As an Allied player, I suffered from this strat once, but came back to win the game. The losses for the Germans were more than their gains! I retook UK, and with US re-inforcements in London was able to rebuild quickly enough to get back in the game. Russia was a powerhouse within a few turns, and pushed Germany into a hole early on. :-D
So, let Germany try Salion, As an Allied player, it is not the end of the world, I can take advantage of it too. -
RE: (Axis & Allies) X (Risk) = ?posted in House Rules

Or, use A@A pieces on a risk board.
Infantry are worth 3 reinforcemint point
artillary are worth 4 points
tanks 5
fighters 10
bombers 15
transports 8
well, you get the idea.
Build a factory, (15 points) and all the units that you buy to place there, cost 2 points less!
Protect it well, if a enemy captures it, then they can use it.
The only way to get from one continent to another is with a transport “bridge”. One transport per dotted line is enough to ferry your army/armies across.
Use A@A combat rules, and movement, or risk combat and movement, your choice on what you are comfortable with.
It will be a slower game than Risk, but interresting none the less.
I think I will set this up this weekend and see how it plays myself. It could be a good cross-over to get Risk players interrested in playing A@A. :wink:Bottom line, have fun! :-D

RE: German Grenadiers in full camoposted in Miniatures Painting & Modeling
This is probibly not the right place to post this as it dosn’t concern Miniatures Gaming, but as I use these figs for A@A board gaming I actually mount my A@A figs on penneys, elmer glue on sand and wild grass seed pods. Then I paint when the glue is dry. I paint the color of the nation on the edge of the penny to help identify it better. The penny base fits very nicely on a stack of chips too.
Your pictures with the penny for size comparrison reminded me of this, so forgive me for getting off track.
Happy Gaming!
P.S. Nice paint jobs by the way. -

RE: Rule Question - Non-combat phaseposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Yes.
You are quite correct, tanks may pass through newly conqured territory to a friendly territory on the NCM phase.
Even if it was just conqured this turn.
Happy Gaming :-D -
RE: How do you counter KJF?posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Personnally, I have found it very difficult to win with a KJF strat.
Germany, if left too much to itself, and I mean without serious pressure from the USA, becomes an unstopable beast!
Japan can always turtle up in its’ capital and hold out a long time making the allies buid ICs’ and ships to try and finish them off, while Germany alone is allowed to build up to take Moscow, or London! -
RE: Hybrid Gameposted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
Gavinator,
Don’t let other people keep you from having fun with your friends. A hybrid game is just another way of saying you are play testing a new set of ‘home rules’ that look a lot like Revised Rules.
As far as any imbalance problems, I’m sure you will spot them quick enough and find a way to deal with them. Just play a few test rounds first before you get down to a real game.
As far as the problem of more Allied units arriving in Europe, I would make a rule that does not allow transports to load and unload in the same turn if they move on your turn.
Artillery are just immobile tanks, ( upside down).
Destroyers can be represented by transports on their sides.Anyway, I’m sure that you and your friends will have a great time playing a fun game.

RE: Let there be Oilposted in Other Games
:-o
My, you truely are an eclectic gamer.
Where is the phone Co., Ma Bell? Or even General Electric? Tey certainly were monster moverers and shakers in the 40s’ and 50s’.
Let’s see though, you want an ‘Oil and Rail’ game with a little Monopoly thrown in. This could get complicated in a hurry with all the interactions and options you want. I think your cards should set the pace and restrictions of the game. Each player is trying to become a monopolising Baron right? But they have different directions that they can go; Oil, Shipping, Real Estate or Cattle Baron? Whatever.
Anyway, each player draws a goal card randomly. the card states what monopoly they are to acquire, (that’s two games right there ;) and the amount of wealth/items, could be tokens, that are required for them to win the game.
I’m not clear on how the old TV shows or movies could be worked in unless you want to use characters from the shows as business advisors or adversaries in the random event cards. For nastalgas’ sake.
Anyway, these are the first random thoughts I came up with. Good luck with the game design, I look forward to seing it on the store shelf someday. -

RE: 2 players??posted in Axis & Allies Revised Edition
IMO, More than 2 players is a beer and pretzel game, not to be taken too seriously.
If you want to prove your skills, then you should take on just one opponent at a time. Once you show that you can beat everybody consistently, then they must concede that you are the best player.
But, for the fun factor, a multiplayer game is what you want, as long as everyone agrees that the game is just for fun, and nobody should get their feelings hurt by getting razed for making a dumb more, as it is just all a part of a multiplayer game. -
